8 Other initiatives 1 Language Line Interpreting Service: Customers using Travel Centres, main office reception, ticket offices or bus stations are able to use Language Line for assistance with timetables, public transport routes and ticket sales. Equality awareness staff training - equality packs all staff, additional training for customer- facing staff

9 Other initiatives 2 Workwise helps unemployed people return to work, free travel advice, free travel to job interviews and free travel for upto 8 weeks of getting a job Safer Travel Police Team targeted police operations to improve personal security on public transport Get into Transport Programme: project with operators and a charity for disadvantaged young people to have 4 weeks work experience in the transport sector

Launched in 2005 by ProVelo (Carmen Sanchez) Supported by BCR from 2006 Objectives: enable women from disadvantaged neighborhoods and their children to cycle safely make women aware of their physical and mental abilities and give them confidence in themselves offer them an insertion tool and autonomy promote equal opportunities 61

62 A vélo Mesdames! Recruitment through women s organisations, medical houses and neighbourhood committees Groups of 15 women 8 to 12 sessions: First learning cycling (70% of women never did) and then, learning cycling in the trafic 62

Up to 1000 participants/year A real success amongst organisations Learning biking: 98% success Some groups succeeded in making long trips in and even outside Brussels at the end of the course Participants say they wish to continue to cycle as part of the course (46%), for fun (33%) for small trips (19%) and to go to work (2%) BUT: low impact on cycling practice among participants => 2014 = last year 63

Going on with general campaign (with low level of participation for noneuropean origin residents): School Mobility Plans and Brevet du cycliste Bike experience: indidual coaching for bike-commuting in Brussels Individual or group lessons Via velo: group lessons for members of associations (A vélo Mesdames! reborn?) + new campaigns from 2016 will work with target groups again: Women Students Newcomers in Brussels (refugees, ) 64
