Friday, April 21, 2017 Red Wing Armory Social hour: 5-6:30pm Dinner: 7pm Live and silent auction following dinner Tickets Individual: $40 Couples: $60 Family: $60 plus $10 per student Help us Paddle Into the Future It s simple. We are in rough waters and need a shed. It s going to cost $124,000. We have $24,000 saved, and need support from you to get to the $100,000. The new shed will house not only all our equipment, but will feature additional classroom space, and an area for prepping for trips that we lead throughout the year. The ELC would like to thank the Red Wing Area Fund for approving a matching grant of $40,000 toward our Raise the Roof campaign. This means that every dollar you donate to the ELC for this campaign will be doubled, so help us use every dollar of this grant! 2 ENTRY LEVEL PROGRAMS Entry Level programs are one day activities that allow students to try a program and be introduced to interesting natural environments in the Red Wing area. EXPLORE THE BLUFF LANDS Fee: $20.00 Minimum Age: 6 th Grade Come and spend a day exploring the best of what spring has to offer in the Red Wing area. Group 1 Group 2 April 5 April 12 3:30-7:30 pm 3:30-7:30 pm Dress for the weather for all ELC programs CORE PROGRAMS BACKPACKING LEVEL I Minimum Age: 6 th Grade Fee: $45.00 Explore the beautiful Tiffany Wildlife Area near Pepin, WI with a backpack on your back, a map and compass in hand and enough gear for a two day camping trip. Orientation 3:30-5:30 pm Ecology/Skills 3:30 pm -7:30 pm Trip: *Leave: 3:30 pm Return: 3:30 pm April 25th April 27 th April 28 th 29 th WHITEWATER KAYAKING AND RAFTING II Prerequisite: Whitewater I Fee $ ELC will provide kayaks and rafts Very few activities offer outdoor enthusiasts as wide a range of experiences as kayaking. Whether you are in it for heartstopping roller coaster exhilaration or the peace and serenity of getting lost in the moment, whitewater kayaking/ Rafting can never let you down. The spring runoff, makes central Wisconsin an amazing place to conduct our whitewater level II program. We will be running class 2 and 3 rapids while car camping on this paddling trip. Come join and see what all the excitement is about. Orientation/ Skills 8:00 am- 4:00 pm Trip Leave: 3:30 pm Return: 6:00 pm Wrap up/potluck 6:00-7:30 May 20 th May 26 th May 29 th May 31 st Take a program a second time for 50% off the program fee! First timers will have priority. Fishing Rod Construction and Whitewater III not included. WHITEWATER KAYAKING AND RAFTING III SPRING BREAK WHITEWATER TO NORTH CAROLINA Fee: $ Prerequisite: Whitewater I and II and two addition pool days this winter to refresh your skills. Whitewater Kayaking III will be held in western North Carolina. Rivers to paddle will be the Nantahala, Green River, French Broad, and the Chattooga River. Participants will learn whitewater safety, paddling techniques, river etiquette, and group cooperation (long van ride). The week will be spent car camping and paddling the mountain rivers. Activity Time Orientation March 2 nd 3:30-5:00 pm Trip: Leave: Return: March 13 th March 18 th Early AM Late evening Wrap up 6:00-7:30 pm March 23 rd 6:00 7:30 pm

3 ELECTIVE PROGRAMS ROCK CLIMBING INTRO Fee: $20 Minimum Age: 6 th Grade Come climb on the classic limestone of Barn Bluff. It is an opportunity to experience rock climbing while learning about the history of Barn Bluff, climbing techniques and climbing safety. Second timers are welcome to sign up! s: (choose one) Group 1 Group 2 May 9 th 3:30-6:30 May 30 th 3:30-6:30 YOUNG WOMEN IN THE WOODS NORTH SHORE Fee: $100 Minimum Age: 7 th Grade Take a weekend trip to the Two Harbors cabin with your fellow female ELCers! Depending on the weather, we will snowshoe, ski, hike, explore the beaches, and experience the north shore culture. Open to 7th grade and up. Orientation 3:30-5:00 Trip: Meet 3:30 pm Pick up: 6:00 pm March 27 March 30 April 2 SUGAR MAPLE TAPPING Fee: $45 Minimum Age: 6 th Grade Participants will learn to identify the sap-producing trees in our area, identify elderberry trees and make your own spiles from the shoots, and become involved with the complete tapping project, from selecting trees to tapping and boiling down the sap. Each participant is expected to make a pint of his or her own maple syrup. Participants will try the finished product at a pancake supper. Orientation 3:30-5:30 March 7 Wrap up 6:00-7:30 April 4 th Tapping Group 1: 9:00 am 12:00 pm Group 2: 12:00 pm- 3:00 pm March 11 TRAP SHOOTING Grades 6-8 Fee: $70 Shells included in fee Prerequisite: Firearms safety This ELC program will serve as an introduction for students who might be interested in trying the fastest growing high school sport in the state of Minnesota. So whether you just completed hunter safety and are looking for some more field time or you are a seasoned hunter and just enjoy shooting trap, come join us for practice and fun. We will be shooting trap targets, talking about safety and learning about the exciting sport of Trap Shooting. 4 ELECTIVE PROGRAMS TALKIN TURKEY Fee: $35 Age: 6 th - 8 th Grade We will meet at the Hay Creek Cabin and spend the evening. Early the next morning we will drive to Rattlesnake Bluff to setup blinds and decoys. Bring your camera and calls and we will watch the wild turkeys in action! Pick a group: Group 1 Group 2 FLOODWATER CANOE CAMPING Fee: $40.00 Prerequisite: Canoeing I This course was brought back as an ELC classic but has proved to be so much fun that we have added it again. The spring floods provide a wonderful opportunity to explore and experience the Cannon Bottoms in the flooded state. We turn the canoes into floating platforms on which we cook and sleep. There are many opportunities to observe various wildlife adapting to floods. Orientation 4:30-8:30 Trip: Meet 7:00 pm Pick up: 1100 am April 11 April 11 April 13 April 14 April 14 April 15 Activity/ Time Orientation: 9:00 am- 3:00 pm Take a parent paddling 6:00-7:30 pm April 1 Group 1 April 5 th Group 2 April 6 th Trip: Leave 3:30 pm Return 11:00 am April 7 th April 8 th Adult and Family Programs FISHING ROD CONSTRUCTION - STUDENT AND ADULT Minimum Age: 6 TH Grade through Adult Fee: $75.00 Adult Fee: Varies Depending upon blank and handle selection This program will introduce the student to the art of building a fishing rod. Each student will make their own fishing rod with the help of DLF Custom Fishing Rods of Rochester Minnesota. DLF is owned and operated by Dan Fryer, a member of the Custom Rod Builders Guild. Dan, a certified professional rod builder will assist each student in building a rod, starting with a blank and adding thread, creating thread art and will be certain that each rod is as individual as the student.. Register online under the students tab Time Location April 3 rd -5 th April 10 th -13th 3:30-6:00 pm ELC ADULT WHITEWATER RAFTING Prerequisite: Sense of Adventure Fee: $125 This program is the adult version of the Whitewater II Very few activities offer outdoor enthusiasts as wide a range of experiences as kayaking. We will spend the day traversing hillsides, searching bedding areas and enjoying a spring day. It provides habitat for a variety of birds, animals, and fish. Come explore the shore and find out what treasures Lake Pepin has to offer. Fee: $15 People of all ages have enjoyed flying kites for thousands of years. Ben Franklin was perhaps the most well known kite flyer. He flew a kite in a thunderstorm and discovered electricity. He got a charge out of flying kites! Students will build their own kite and weather permitting will Go Fly a Kite!
