3 Customizable Media Advisory National Safe Boating Week FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Advisory What: «Event title» «Brief description of event» When and Where: «Date», «Time» «Event location, address» Hosted By: «Your organization and partners» Contact: «Name», «Title», «Phone», « » Background: National Safe Boating Week is May 16-22, Boating safety advocates across the U.S. and Canada have teamed up to promote safe and responsible boating, including voluntary, consistent life jacket wear every time boaters are on the water. What looks like a perfect day for boating can quickly become hazardous if you end up in the water, said Rachel Johnson, executive director of the National Safe Boating Council, the lead organization for Wear It! You can have a great time while choosing to always wear a life jacket and being a responsible boater. U.S. Coast Guard statistics show that drowning was the reported cause of death in three-fourths of recreational boating fatalities in 2014, and that 84 percent of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets. Local events are a prime way to reach boaters during National Safe Boating Week. In your community, a local event is being run by «your organization and background information». The event will feature «insert brief description of activities, speakers, other aspects of event that may attract media». 4 Customizable Media Advisory Ready, Set, Wear It! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Advisory What: «Event title» «Brief Description of event» When and Where: «Date», «Time» «Event location, address» Hosted By: «Your organization and partners» Contact: «Name», «Title», «Phone», « » Background: On Saturday, May 16, participants in cities around the globe will gather to set a world record for the most life jackets worn and inflatable life jackets inflated on the sixth annual Ready, Set, Wear It! Life Jacket World Record Day. The goal is not only to promote the comfortable and versatile options when it comes to life jackets, but also to educate the public about safe boating. As a kickoff for this year s National Safe Boating Week (May 16 22, 2015), the National Safe Boating Council and Canadian Safe Boating Council will host Ready, Set, Wear It! Life Jacket World Record Day. Both events are part of the yearlong Wear It! campaign to promote boating safety and voluntary, consistent wear of life jackets. This event is a great opportunity to inspect your life jacket and get a refresher on boating safety as you join thousands of people to set a world record, said Rachel Johnson, executive director of the National Safe Boating Council. Last year, nearly 7,000 participants gathered at 175 events held around the world to set a new record for the number of participants who inflated their inflatable life jacket or wore an inherently buoyant life jacket. The local event will feature «insert brief description of event, speakers and activities of public interest». U.S. Coast Guard statistics show that drowning was the reported cause of death in three-fourths of recreational boating fatalities in 2014, and that 84 percent of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets. 5 Customizable Media Release National Safe Boating Week FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE «Your organization» to Host «Event» During National Safe Boating Week Boating advocates promote life jacket wear and responsible boating in «Your City, State, Region» («Date») «Your city, state abbreviation» «Your organization» is proud to sponsor «your event» to help promote National Safe Boating Week, May 16-22, the official launch of the 2015 North American Safe Boating Campaign. This yearlong campaign promotes the value of voluntary, consistent life jacket wear by recreational boaters through the national theme, Wear It! «Insert event details, including time, location and activities of public interest.» «Insert quote from an officer of your organization or other prominent supporter.» U.S. Coast Guard statistics show that drowning was the reported cause of death in three-fourths of recreational boating fatalities in 2014, and that 84 percent of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets. New life jackets are much more comfortable, lightweight and stylish than the bulky orange style most boaters know. There are innovative options, such as inflatable life jackets, allowing mobility and flexibility for activities like boating, fishing, paddling or hunting, and are much cooler in the warmer weather. More information is available at safeboatingcampaign.com. «Insert a general description of your organization, including website and phone number.» Contact: «Name», «Title», «Phone», « » USE THIS CUSTOMIZABLE MEDIA RELEASE TO ATTRACT MEDIA TO YOUR LOCAL EVENT.
