1 Community Engagement Component Carmen Sweet Information Sheet for Participants Introduction The choreography of Natalie Weir s and Expressions Dance Company s Carmen Sweet has been designed to offer an opportunity for talented dancers to participate in a scene of this sumptuous production. It s a great way to get experience performing alongside a professional company of the calibre of Expressions Dance Company. Skill Level required We are seeking ten female dancers with an RAD equivalent of Advanced 1 and 2 or higher. Whilst this is a contemporary dance work, the foundation of much of the choreography for this scene is classically based. The movement requires participants who are capable of taking direction, picking up steps quickly and remembering instructions. Most of all, participants should be reliable and be trustworthy to get it right on the night! They also require skills in performance and carriage. The ten dancers seductively embellish the first Matador s entrance on stage. As this is quite a passionate, sassy work, the ability to perform with confidence and maturity is desired. Some acting ability is required. 2 Your commitment Should you be accepted, your commitment will be as follows: - 1. Rehearsals with the MATADOR WHEN: WHERE: 2. Technical and Production week - In-theatre The exact times you will be required for the production and performance day will need further confirmation however the rough times you will be required at the theatre are as follows. Performance Schedule TO BE INSERTED Paperwork On selection, all dancers are required to complete and return a signed Disclaimer Image Release Form All persons under 18 must have their forms signed by a parent of guardian. If these forms are not completed prior to the commencement of the performance, that person will be unable to perform. Please note that all EDC dancers have a Blue Card and have been approved to work with persons under 18 years old. Please find both forms attached. Costumes As part of your commitment to the performance, you need to supply your dress. We are making this as generic (and glamorous as possible). Bill Haycock, Carmen Sweet designer, has requested you wear for the performance the following:- All black (no other colour) sparkling/evening type short dress. Remember you will need to move in it. No shoes required Please bring your proposed dress to the audition and rehearsals.

4 DISCLAIMER Dance of all types can involve risk of personal injury. EXPRESSIONS DANCE COMPANY takes all reasonable care in the conduct of classes, rehearsals and performances that are a part of CARMEN SWEET (the program) and will accept not responsibility for injury or loss caused during the program or whilst participants are in or near the touring venue or associated rehearsal/performance spaces. All dancers, students and participants attending a class, rehearsal or performance of the program (participant) are responsible for ensuring that they are physically and mentally fit for the program, and during classes, rehearsals and performances they must at all times take care of their own personal safety. The participant, and where the participant is under 18 years of age, the participant s guardian, warrants and certifies that:- 1. the dancer is fully responsible for the safety, management and care of their bodies during the season 2. the dancer is not currently injured or currently under any medical or rehabilitation supervision for any old or re- occurring physical injuries or health conditions that might be effected through the course of this activity 3. the dancer is not the subject of an ongoing Workers Compensation claim 4. the dancer will immediately fully inform the Stage Manager of the program of any physical difficulties or injuries that occur during the season 5. the dancer will report to the Stage Manager to complete an incident report within two hours of an injury or incident occurring 6. where the dancer has exception to any of this warranties, the participant will personally speak to the Stage Manager prior to participating in the season and complete in the further information space on this form.
