2 R a t i o n a l e Training Course on Abalone Hatchery and Grow-out Abalone is a marine gastropod with high commercial importance. Live abalone commands a high price of P per kg (US$ per kg) while blanched meat costs about P per kg (US$ per kg). Due to unregulated harvesting of the wild stock, abalone population continuously declined. Thus, SEAFDEC Aquaculture Department started a few years ago research and development projects to develop technologies for abalone hatchery and grow-out culture, particularly the species Haliotis asinina. Such technologies are already available. Hence, this training course was organized. O b j e c t I v e s The training course aims to provide participant with technical knowledge and skills on the hatchery and grow-out culture of abalone to enable him to operate and manage an abalone hatchery and grow-out by knowing how to: 2nd St., Lawaan Subd., Jaro, 5000 Iloilo City, Tel: (+63-33) Mobile: ( ) , SEAFDEC/AQD Tigbauan 5021, Iloilo, Tel.
