1 Hansel & Gretel Relaxed Performance at Derby Theatre Pre-show Information Our Relaxed Performances are designed to create an enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere for young people and adults with learning disabilities and also for their families and friends to experience theatre. We hope this pre-show information will help you to prepare for your visit to Derby Theatre and give you an idea of what to expect when you come to see Hansel & Gretel. 2 What is a Relaxed Performance? Our Relaxed Performances are mainstream theatre shows that we adapt in various ways to make them accessible to young people and adults with learning disabilities/additional needs or any theatre goer who would benefit from a more relaxed atmosphere. Noise and movement We ask every audience member to be accepting of the fact that people in the audience will express enjoyment of the show in different ways. The attitude to noise and movement is relaxed, and we ask anyone who attends to be supportive of this. Pre-show information We send out this detailed pre-show information pack to help you prepare for your visit before you come to Derby Theatre. Show Experience There is wheel-chair space and we don t sell every seat so that people who want to move around the theatre auditorium can do so. We also make slight changes to sound and lighting effects if necessary, and we never have a full black-out in the auditorium. Quiet Space For anyone who needs to leave the show, we have a Quiet Space outside the auditorium in the Sir Alan Bates room, which can be used throughout the show. You can return to the show when you are ready and are welcome to leave and return whenever you like. We ask audience members not to come onto the stage at any point before, during or after the performance, unless you are asked to do so. Thank you.

3 The Show Please turn off your phone and we ask that you do not take any photographs before or during the show. The show is two hours long including a 20 minute interval. The Story Hansel and Gretel need to get back home in a hurry, but in the enchanted woods there s a cottage made entirely of surgery sweets and delicious gingerbread, not to mention a wicked witch to contend with. Can Gretel save the day and rescue her brother? And can Hansel leave the lollipops alone and actually help? Fill your pockets with some nice white pebbles, take a piece of bread and come with us into the deep deep woods! Here are some of the Characters you will see in the show! The Rooks

10 After the Show When the show has finished, the actors will line-up and take a bow. Everyone will clap to show that they have enjoyed the show. You can clap, wave your hands, shout and cheer too if you want to. Once the actors have left the stage the lights will then come back on and everyone will leave. It will be busy but you can always wait in your seat until everyone else has gone. Our staff will help you leave Derby Theatre. We hope you enjoy the show and please let us know what you thought of it by writing us a letter or drawing a picture! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
