4 Excerpt and Art from Harry Potter Fan-fiction: A Dark Grey Memory London, England, January, 993 CE A muffled shuffling echoes through the massive, underground, stone chamber. Raised wooden booths encircle a lowered area in the center of the chamber. A raised platform is in the dead center, encased with an iron cage. Magical wards are placed carefully around the cage. From the dark tunnel a young girl with nearly white blonde hair is being escorted in chains. Her golden eyes gaze upon the onlookers surrounding her. She stands tall, her chin raised, blinking her eyes to adjust to the sudden burst of light. The girl takes in the crowd of people, the slightly more raised podium in the booths, and at the dark haired man standing behind the large desk. Two guards standing on either side, protecting him from her. As if she d ever harm him. The large door to the cage creaks open, as the guards escorting her shove the girl inside the cage, attaching her chains to the metal bars. A dark haired woman steps out from behind the dark haired man, she hits her mallet on the desk and the onlookers take their seats. Veronica Valens, you are hereby charged with the murders of many victims, the torturing of many more, stealing, using magic for an unlawful purpose, and many more offenses, how do you plead? The woman demands of the pale haired young girl. Veronica looks up into the eyes of the dark haired man behind the woman, her voice steady and firm as she speaks, Guilty your honor. Veronica doesn t smile, her golden eyes now fixed on the judge, and the man behind her. Her father, Alaric Valens, the Wizards Council Chief. Or in other terms, the Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot.

7 Excerpt from Percy Jackson fan-fiction: Earth s Child They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul, some say they are even the doors. No matter what entrance you think your eyes are, most people say that your eyes show who you really are. That can t be true though, because if it was, people would run in the opposite direction of me. If my eyes showed the world my soul, the world would see the dark abyss that was formed and deepened over a span of 3000 years. Though I may look youthful, like your average 18 year old New Yorker, I am not. Vasilissa, a low familiar voice shakes me from my thoughts. Yes my lord, I reply in monotone. They want you up there in an hour, Hermes delivers the all too familiar message. Understood, I sigh, another job. So soon after the last one too. Keep your eyes closed, we re almost there, a boy s voice calls excitedly. I turn and look towards the warm green grass of Central Park s main lawn. A boy with tousled black hair and sea-green eyes is walking his blind-folded blonde girlfriend towards a collection of beach towels and a picnic lunch. Where are we going Percy, Annabeth demands of her boyfriend. You ll see, Percy Jackson teases. I watch them walk to the picnic, where a rag-tag team of teenagers is sitting, waiting to say Happy Birthday to their friend. The teenagers are Hazel Levesque, Frank Zhang, Leo Valdez, Piper McLean, Jason Chase, Nico Di Angelo, Reyna Ramirez-Arellano, and Calypso. (Available at
