Directly after that dinner meeting, plan to join all of our HCA families for the Back-to-School Night Open House and Ice Cream Social from 6-7:30 pm. Please RSVP to Cherie in the office at if you plan to join us for dinner. A New Look for Back-to-School Night! This year we re trying something new for Back-to-School Night. There will be no formal meeting in the gym as in previous years. Communication about any necessary items will be in written form and can be picked up at the front entrance that evening. Please be sure to check in when you get here so that you don t miss out on that important information. Then, have fun re-connecting with other HCA families while enjoying some ice cream, visiting with teachers, and dropping off school supplies. We hope you ll be able to join us on Friday, August 25th from 6-7:30 pm! Praising God for New Faculty/Staff We are praising the Lord for the staff that He has provided this summer to fill some of the open spots for the fall: o MaryBeth Allen - Elementary Music & Band o Leslie Grubbs - Secondary Choral Music o Lindsey Cyr - Secondary Math/Science o Bruce Esterline Secondary Math We are still in need of a Secondary Math/Science Teacher, First Grade Maternity Leave Substitute and Aftercare Staff. Please pray with us that the Lord would reveal His people for these openings.

2 Praising God for New Families/Students We are praising the Lord for the 19 new families (40 students) that He has brought our way this summer so far! Our enrollment is currently at 208. In recent years, we ve seen quite a few more students enroll in August. We re praying that the Lord will do the same this year, helping us to get to at least 230 students. Help us spread the word about HCA to your friends and family as we strive to fully equip students to impact the world for Christ! Going Digital In an effort to be good stewards of HCA s resources, all newsletters and other flyers will no longer be sent home in paper form. The Eagle Tracker, which includes the current newsletter and all of the information that you need to know for that particular week, will continue to come to you in the form of a weekly once the school year begins. You can also access the Eagle Tracker through our website at Please note - We will continue to use the family envelope system for permission slips and other interactive documents. Please let us know if you are not receiving the Eagle Tracker s, as this is also used for school closings or emergencies and other important notifications. Apologetics Conference Please join us September 8-9 at Lighthouse Community Church for Deeper Roots, a conference to deepen faith through understanding, equip believers to share that faith, and connect believers to one another. Speakers include Dr. Tim McGrew and J. Warner Wallace. Cost is $39; register at defendersmedia.com. Use the promo code "GROW" at registration for a 25% discount. Teacher of the Year Congratulations, Mr. Beck, for being selected as the 2017 Michigan Council for History Education s James McConnell High School Teacher of the Year! He will present a lesson and receive his award in Grand Rapids in October. Garage Sale Donation We d like to give a big thanks to the Gibbons Family for having a garage sale at the beginning of the summer and donating all of the proceeds to HCA s Learning Lab. What a blessing! Terra Nova Testing Although we have never had issues with this before, ACSI is continuing to run into roadblocks in getting us our test results, due to the use of a new processor this year. Here s the latest from ACSI: At the present time, the most current information we have received is that paper reports will begin to be processed, at the earliest, the week of August 14. And if we are notified that reports will again be delayed, we will keep you informed immediately. We are sorry, and appreciate your patience and understanding. We will get the test results to you as soon as they come in. Souled Out Leader Needed Please contact the office if you or somebody you know is interested in mentoring young men through our Souled Out program. This ministry requires only a two hour commitment on Wednesday afternoons throughout the school year, but offers great rewards in Heaven!

6 Heritage Christian Academy PK 6 th Grade Dress Code Guiding Principles Heritage Christian Academy s dress code is intended to give a concrete, practical witness to the school s commitment to fulfill its stated aims to honor God. Our goal is to provide a learning environment where all students can concentrate and focus easily without being distracted by dress. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV) A. The emphasis at HCA is on modesty, neatness, and appropriateness. B. Parents are expected to help their child follow the dress code to the best of their ability. C. Students must adhere to the dress code at school functions when appropriate (ie. concerts, etc). Exceptions may be given for athletic games/practices, and formal events. These exceptions will be communicated to the appropriate students/parents before such events and enforced by administration. The following specifications and interpretations ensure that the Guiding Principles are met: Modesty 1. Pants/shorts: Boys and girls may wear shorts no shorter than the length of their longest finger when standing with their arms relaxed at their sides. Girls may wear leggings provided that their top remains untucked and is no shorter than the length of their longest finger when standing with their arms relaxed at their sides. 2. Tops: Girls may wear sleeveless shirts provided that the fabric at the shoulder is at least three fingertips in width. Tank tops are not permitted.
