1 My Visit back to the Medieval Times By: Have you ever been able to travel back to the period of the Medieval Times, around 1,500 years ago? DEAR READER: In this narrative, I m going to relive my experience of visiting the medieval times with you. I really hope you enjoy these next few pages. This adventurous story begins about 5 years ago, when an odd opportunity was offered to me. One morning, I believe it to be a Saturday morning and I had woken up late. I did my usual routine, ate some breakfast, watched a few morning cartoons, and started making some plans for my day. It was sometime in the afternoon, around 12:00 perhaps, when my Mom was texting on her phone and she did something unusual- she put her phone down in the middle of typing a text message. Then she looked at me and said Nick, would you like to take a trip back to the medieval times? No just kidding, she didn t say that. This is what she actually said, Hey Nick, Abby (my friend Ethan s Mom) asked if you would be interested in going to Medieval Times. I think she said Sean was going, too. (Sean had been my best friend for quite some time, and he had often spoken of this Medieval Times.) Slightly intrigued, I thought for a few moments. Ah, I don t know Ma. I finally replied. Well, she said, You ll have to decide pretty soon, cause the date is set for in a few weeks. Okay. I replied, as I went back to my casual, lazy, Saturday afternoon routine.

2 Soon enough, weeks began passing. I had one week to make my final decision. In the duration of these weeks, I did some research on what exactly the Medieval Times was. What it apperead to be to me, was a large sand pit, surrounded by a big stadium, and the plot of it was for a bunch of fake actors to pretend to fight for eachother, and each group of fans represents a different knight. It sounded to me like something that would properly entertain young children. It was when there was a period of only a few days when my Mom forced me to make my decision. Okay Nick, theres only a few days left! You have to make your decision now. I have to let Abby know how many tickets to buy. My Mom said. Well I said. Come on Nick, it ll be fun! Just go with Ethan and Sean. After some time of thoughtfull silence, I made my decision. Fine, I said, I ll try it out and go, but only cause Ethan and Sean are going. Okay then. My Mom said, a smirk stretched onto her face. And that s when it was decided. Due to my Mom being sick, my Dad was the one who was going to take my brother, sister and I. Now it was only a matter of a few days till it was time to go. I was having mixed feeling about it. I thought it would be a big embarrassment and waste of time, but I was also partially interested and curious of what it would be like. It was only a matter of time now. Finally, the day came. I believe it was either a Saturday or a Sunday. I remember the surprisingly, immense excitement I contained while getting into the car.

3 We then loaded into the car, with our jackets and swords (they were Ninja swords, considering the fact that I didn t own any swords that looked relatively similar to anything that looked like it came from the medieval times), And we then started our journey to the medieval times. Even though it took about 1500 years to get from then to now, it only took us about an hour to get there, but anyways that s beside the point. The journey was intriguing and exciting, all though nobody likes to sit in traffic. The hour soon passed and we arrived at a very grand, large, grey, brick castle that stood quite tall indeed. Before entering the castle, we met up with our fellow allies, Ethan, Kevin, Abby, and Sean. We all said our hellos and continued into the large building. The doors were quite big and decorated, and they were guarded by two large,(fake, for as far as I could tell), brave, silver knights, armed with silver axes of immense size and potential. We finally entered the interesting castle. The first room was the gift shop. I suppose it was there to temp fans to spend some more money on their way out. Anyhow, we walked past the shop and into another room, where our tickets would be registered. After thus was done so, we went into yet another room to get our picture taken with the princess, who was at least real, but an un-talented actor. As soon as we finished taking the picture she too her phone out and started tap-tap-tapping away. The last two things we did was go to buy ourselves some beverages for the show, and use the bathroom. Surprisingly, the bathroom wasn t as grand as the rest of the building.

4 At last, we made it to our seats. The stadium was even larger than I had expected. There was still some time before the spectacular show would begin. So this period of time gave Ethan, Sean, and I some time to blabber, as well as all the adults. Ethan showed off his amazing Minecraft swords, and Sean showed off his (actually impressive) IPod. (I had nothing to show off but a lame Ninja sword). It was quite an (easy) decision on who s object was better, Ethan s colorful, extravagant, Styrofoam sword, or Sean s awesome IPod. The thing could do pretty much everything. It could text, play games, use the internet, take pictures and videos, and even Face Time. I was so impressed with this little device. Sorry Ethan. But you lost this one, bud I said, still intrigued by the wonder of this IPod. Soon, a man came up to us and started talking to our parents. I thought perhaps we had done something wrong. He had a notepad and a pen in his hand, and he was furiously scribbling things down. Who is he? I whispered curiously to Ethan. Oh that just a waiter, man. Our parents are ordering food. Small menu, though. Said Ethan. (Mind you, Ethan was, and still is, a VERY picky eater. Like literally his diet consists of chicken, Frito s, mountain dew, chocolate milk, and Apple Sauce.) Oh. I replied, relieved of this mans presence. The first course arrived right before the show began. It was ribs, and they were absolutely wonderful. I really wanted more, but I wasn t allowed because there was still about two more courses of meals. So far, I was quite pleased with the Medieval Times, it was actually pretty fun so far!

5 Our talking sped up time until the show eventually started. The room suddenly grew dark and silent. There was somewhat of a silent chatter, until a spotlight pointed up in the front of the stadium. It was a king and a queen sitting at a large table, and although I do not remember their long detailed conversation, I do remember them discussing the knights, and who the best of them shall be. The best knight was to marry the princess, or something like that. Then the king rose from his seat and began to introduce them as they came out from beneath. There were many knights, I believe seven to be exact. There was the green knight, the red and gold knight, the blue knight(the one I was representing), the black knight, the golden knight, the silver knight, and finally, the red knight. They all looked quite extravagant and majestic in their armor. Their horse s were also quite extravagant. They were some very large, muscular, broad-looking horses, wearing some grand armor as well. There was great cheering and clapping as the knights were revealed and introduced, as they waved their hands to the many fans that filled the building. Soon enough, the first exciting games began. The first game was a horse race between all the knights. One knight was eliminated every game. The knights lined themselves up. On your marks! Began the king, Get set! We were all hanging off our seats, as the crowd went wild. GO!!! exclaimed the king, and the races began. The horses were off.

6 They raced down the track at impressive speed. Although their facial expression s were hidden by their broad helmets, I could see the determination from their body languages, determination to win. I believe that there were three laps to the race. The knights with the more fancy armor were all in the lead, like black, gold, silver, and red. The knights finished in that order. Our knight came in like 3 rd to last place, but at least he wasn t eliminated. The second event was then beginning to take place. It was at the end of this event that the second course was brought to us, which also was a very delicious meal, but I still enjoyed the ribs more, they were quite spectacular. The gaming events continued until eventually there were four contestants left. Surprisingly, our knights had made it so far, even though he was probably in the last place. I believe the remaining knights were blue, as I ve said, green, silver, and black. The next event was to be a one-on-one challenge. Blue was matched with green, and black was matched with silver, if I remember correctly. I m not exactly sure what this sport was called- It was the one in which each knight carries a long pole like thing, and they charge each other on their horses at full speed, attempting to knock one another off the horse. I must admit, it was a very interesting show, although daringly dangerous. But the crowd sure did enjoy it, judging by their earshattering cheers and claps. It was one of the most tense parts of the show, determining whether our knight would be in the championships.

7 The knights lined up. Blue and Green, Black and Silver. This was going to be quite the match-up. On your marks! announced the king, Get set! we were as tense as we ever were during the whole show, GO!!! And off they went with laser speed! Blue was charging with such a mighty look of determination, but so were all the other knights. For once, I actually had some faith in our under dog. They passed each other a few times, missing. Then they raced down the track again, and this time, OH NO! I thought, fearfully. The green knight had knocked our soldier. HANG ON, WERE BEGGING YOU! I thought, now trembling. I never though I d care so much about this knight winning. It probably wouldn t mean anything in my life. But maybe that will change later in the story, I guess you ll just have to keep reading to find out. Our unsteady knight began slipping off his knight. This was it. He had quite a run, but he just wasn t strong enough to finish. Just when I was loosing my faith completely in this knight, something amazing happened. The knight, already halfway off his horse, clung on it side, absolutely refusing to let go! The whole crowd gasped in surprise, and then, all of a sudden, cheering. Cheering. The crowd, our blue fans especially, started going wild, and then our knight found the strength, he found it! He slowly made his way back up the horse, and then steadied himself, preparing for the next attack! The crowd was uncontrollable at this point. Everybody on their feet, cheering with all their might.

8 Our knight once again started his charge, and even the green knight was surprised. He thought it was over, but no! Our knight clung on. Not bad for the underdog, huh? Both knights once again charging at full speed, the crowd was extremely tense, but yet supportive as well. The cheering continued. They were getting closer, and closer, and closer, until finally they met and- A DIRECT HIT FROM OUR KNIGHT! He had done it! He d done it! He knocked the green knight clean off his horse, as the green knight lie on the sandy ground in disbelief. He exited the stadium with such anger and disbelief. He was clearly upset. HE DID IT! we all cried, we were so astonished at our knight. The other match was another tense one. Black and silver went on for what seemed like hours, even though it was only a few minutes. Finally, the black knight won. It was a very close, tense match. But interesting, indeed. And now it was to the finals. Our knight, blue, versus probably the strongest knight yet, the black one. It was going to be a very difficult match for our blue knight. But he was determined. He was brave. He had faith. Those were the important things that mattered at that moment. It was down to the last match. We are now down to the final match! Announced the king. The crowd began clapping once again. This match is the ultimate test! The test of which will determine who the better knight really is! He said, as the crowd began cheering again

9 The final match will be The crowd was filled with an ultimate, silent suspense. A battle to the death! And the stadium was absolute pandemonium! They were as loud as ever. For the first time during the whole event, the knights took their helmets off. The black knight had short, normal lengthened black hair, and his face had a big scar on it. He certainly looked tuff. And our knight had long, flowing hair, with a calm, smooth face. Choose your weapons! exclaimed the king, as two assistants brought out a rack with a bunch of weapons on it. They first both choose big long swords, and for a backup weapon, the opponent choose a big weapon. I m not exactly sure what it was called, but it was a big, spiked, metal ball on the end of a long staff. A heavy weapon, indeed. And our knight choose another sword, this one a light weight. Now! Let the battle- BEGIN! And the battle commenced. They fought furiously, their swords constantly clanking. Our knight was not doing so well. Until a very scary moment occurred. The black knight had kicked our knight, knocking his sword out of his hand. Our hero had fallen to the ground. Then the black knight rose his sword, preparing to finish the battle, And just as he began bringing his sword down, with harm-full intention, our knight quickly drew his other sword and blocked the black knights strike! He then sprung to his feet and knocked the opponents sword out of his hand! The opponent then drew his back up weapon with anger.

10 Then they battled once again, and our knight fought fearlessly! An expression of worry appeared on the black knights face, and he lost his focus and control. Our knight knocked his weapon out of his hand, and sent him flying to the ground with a power full kick. The black knight lay there, eyes wide with fear, and just waited for his fate. Our knight stepped up to him, put his foot on the knight, rose his sword, but then he hesitated there. He didn t move for a while. We all knew he felt very bad for the black knight. But after his hesitation, the look of sorrow left his face. And finally he brought down his sword, stabbing the black knight with mighty power. And then it was over. Our knight looked up. He was the champion! The crowd once again went wild! The whole stadium darkened, and a bright light shown onto just our knight. Me, Sean, and Ethan all had our hands in the air. I just stood there like that, in absolute astonishment. This did not seem like a fake show at all. This seemed real! It was the most heart throbbing events in my life. The knight threw some flowers up into the blue fans part of the stadium as he waved. Then he cast us a look. And he winked at us specifically! What a show. I thought. What. A. Show. We left the stadium shortly after that. Our Dad bought us each a sword at the gift shop, and then we left. We all discussed the whole thing on the way home, and we told my Mom about it when we arrived. And that concludes my visit, back to the medieval times.
