1 Coach to Parent Communication Guidelines 1. Notify all parents by within 24 hours of receiving your team. Provide first practice time and location and team information. Ask for a response to your . Contact anyone that does not respond, by phone. You must have CONFIRMATION that they have received info within 24 hours. Primary source of communication for parents is to be by Practice location: you must practice at Four Seasons Park. All changes to practice time or day must be made 24 hours prior. Ask for a confirmation response. 3. Schedule a Parent Meeting for your first practice to answer questions. Lay out your plans and goals for the season. 4. Canceling practice due to the weather must be done at least 1 hour before scheduled time. Send this communication by AND by text. Ask for a confirmation response. 5. Send a reminder before each practice and game. For game reminders, communicate if body suits, jackets or pants should be worn. 6. Pulling a cheerleader from performing for any reason must be approved by VP of Cheer and Director of Cheer. Parents to be notified ASAP with thorough explanation.

2 Basic Cheerleading Coach Info 1. Limitations on practice: You are allowed up to two 90 minute practices per week. This includes any team meetings. Please consider everyone s availability the best that you can when choosing the day and time of practice. As fall approaches, the hours of day light become shorter. You may need to adjust the time and length of practice. Warm up time before games is to be no longer than 30 minutes in length. Make sure to communicate where to find you on the field. 2. PJC was created in 1972 as a program to teach and prepare young football players and cheerleaders for one day playing or cheering in high school. This is still the goal of PJC! Teaching the cheerleaders proper stunt safety, tumbling and crisp movements is very important. Emphasize to the cheerleaders and parents that your team should look like a team every cheerleader should have the same uniform as her teammates at every game. This includes her hair bow placed at the top of her head in either a high pony tail or a high half pony tail for shorter hair, no show white socks and white cheer shoes. 3. Each practice should include a warm up, learning/practicing of sideline cheers, learning of stunts (level of difficulty based on age), tumbling practice and dance routine practice. Don t forget to allow water breaks! 4. You will receive a list of suggested cheers. These are cheers that returning cheerleaders will be familiar with. You are not limited to only these cheers! If you have others you would like to teach you can do so using your own discretion of age of the team and family friendliness. 5. You are required to teach your team at least one half time dance of your choosing. The music should be saved to a CD and brought to each game. Right before half time, your team parent should take the CD up to the tower and have it ready to play. At half time, the team parent will be in the tower and will introduce the girls onto the field: Introducing the 2016 Bantam/Featherweight/Middleweight [team name] cheerleaders!! Abby. Emma Jalyn The cheerleaders should wave or do a cartwheel or something along those lines when their name is called. The team parent will then play the music and will bring it back to you after the dance routine is completed.

3 6. A team parent will be sought out by the VP of Cheer or Director of Cheer and you will be notified of who it is. The roles of the Team Parent include: Communication of practice or game reminders if you are unable to do so, coordinating and communicating the snack schedule, half time announcement and playing of music and assisting you as needed with creating bows, ordering warm up pants if you choose to purchase them as a team, picture handout and any other assistance with the team that you need. 7. You will receive a coach s bag with poms and a first aid kit. This should be brought to every practice and game. The bag and its contents is to be returned after the last game. 8. Cheerleaders should bring FUN and EXCITEMENT to the games!! Create noise makers out of water bottles and beans and pass them out at each game. Make candy tootsies by placing individually wrapped pieces of candy into a toilet paper roll and wrapping it in tissue paper to pass out to the crowd after a touch down! Get the crowd involved in your cheers! 9. The cheerleaders are there to SUPPORT and ENCOURAGE the football players! Be positive with words and actions. They should not try to talk to or distract the players at any time during a game, including half time. Create paper banners for the players to run thru before each game! 10. Last but not least All coaches 18 and older must participate in a background check. Information and instructions will be communicated by the Executive VP of PJC. 4 The following guidelines are important to encourage. Always smile Imagine that you are locking your arms when you need to show crisp, sharp movements but try not to look way too stiff Never have floppy wrists they should always be firm and in line with your arms Practice makes perfect so if you are having problems with motions, practice until you get it right or ask for help It is important for you to stay in rhythm with the cheers and chants that you are doing Remember make the cheers quick and snappy as well as sharp and loud No stunts are to be practiced without coach supervision Stunts shouldn t be practiced at home Stunts shouldn t be taken lightly which means it is not a time to goof off and it isn t a time to close off your ears either! Open eyes and open ears for stunts is mandatory.
