2 DRAMA CLUB LETTER January 10th, 2018 Dear Drama Club Parents, Drama Club is a way for students to express themselves in another creative capacity. We want the students to explore the performing arts, including participation in a play at the end of May. As we pass out the try-out materials for the play in May we want to emphasize the importance of commitment. Every student who is planning on being part of the play production is responsible for attending all Drama Club sessions, which as you know are held every Tuesday from 3:15-4:15pm. Although we understand that some illnesses or emergencies arise, due to the fact we meet weekly, every practice counts. Our performance this year will be performed on Tuesday, May 22nd at 7:00pm at the NDPMA Cafetorium stage. Please see attached schedule for dress rehearsal days and times. As parts are assigned and practices go underway it is important all students arrive ready to work. Students must commit to learning their lines. Students who are not following essential agreements (rules), being disrespectful, or causing disturbances will be asked to sit out for practice on the day of the occurrence. It is extremely difficult to run practices with children acting inappropriately, which ultimately affects everyone. Students who sit out three times will no longer BE ALLOWED to participate in Drama Club. This notice is being sent home as a contract. This contract is between the students, the Drama Club directors, and the parents. As the Drama Club directors, we will help the students with the overall theatrical performance: learning their lines, body movements, stage direction, scenery, etc. As parents we need your help to ensure they understand the consequences of their behavior and to help them learn their lines and make their costumes and props/setpieces. We need the students to come ready to work, understanding the commitment, and the three strikes rule. Each member of Drama Club is responsible for paying a fee ($60 for actors and $30 for backstage). This covers the cost of costumes, set design, cast party and t- shirt. Students may not participate unless they bring in this contract SIGNED and pay the drama club fee. 3 This year s show is RUMPELSTILTSKIN: PRIVATE EYE. In this witty film noir fairytale spoof, Fairytale Land has been hit by a crime wave. The Three Bears home was broken into. The Three Little Pigs homes were destroyed. Now Little Red Riding Hood s grandmother is missing. The crimes seem unrelated, at least if you listen to those shady Grimm brothers. But could an evil mastermind be behind them all? Something punny is going on! Only hardboiled detective Rumpelstiltskin and his wise-cracking partner Ugly Duckling can solve this wacky case. Full of hilarious roles and snappy one-liners, this private eye parody is pure gold! But I'm not beaten yet. You've won the battle, but I'm about to win the wardrobe. My spotty puppy coat is in plain sight and leaving tracks. In a moment I'll have what I came for, while all of you will end up as sausage meat, alone on some sad, plastic plate. Dead and medium red. No friends, no family, no pulse. Just slapped between two buns, smothered in onions, with fries on the side. Cruella De Vil has the last laugh! Antz Zee All my life I've lived and worked in the big city, which now that I think of it, is a problem since I always feel uncomfortable around crowds. I mean it. I have this fear of enclosed spaces, everything makes me feel trapped all the time. You know I always tell myself there's got to be something better out there, but maybe I think too much. I was not cut out to be a worker, I'll tell you right now, I feel physically inadequate. My whole life I've never been able to lift ten

5 times my own body weight and when you get down to it, handling dirt is... eeeewwwwww, you know is not my idea of a rewarding career. It's this whole gung-ho super-organism thing. I mean you know, what is it, I'm supposed to do everything for the colony, and what about my needs, what about me? I mean I gotta believe there's someplace out there that's better than this! BEAN - Bean is playing hide and seek with a bunch of boys. She can t find anybody. Hey, where did everybody go? I give up! I counted to a hundred, like you said. It took a long time. Where is everybody? I said I give up! I can t find you! I ve been looking for ages. Can anybody hear me? This isn t funny anymore, you guys. Come out, come out, wherever you are! Come on, guys. Let s play a different game! We could play tag outside. Or maybe we could have a snack and play video games. I ll let you guys play first! I promise! Just come out. I can t find you, OK? I give up. What more do you want from me? Guys? Hey, guys? ALICIA - Alicia is a princess who doesn t like boys. She is talking to her father, the king. Daddy, I don t want to be a princess anymore. I like the pretty dresses and I sort of like the dancing, but why do I have to dance with boys? I really don t like boys. The last boy I danced with told me about all the worms he ate. How he d get his servants to search far and wide for the fattest, juiciest worms in the kingdom. I almost puked on my pretty slippers, Daddy! It was gross. I could just dance by myself from now on. And you, of course, because you re my dad and not a boy. But I just cannot stand another day of dancing with worm-eaters. Disney Danger Comedic Monologue Hello I would like to take a moment to talk to all of you about the dangers of taking your parents to Disneyland. First off, we are all here with a big group, and who wants to be discovered by a classmate when your mom is wearing Mickey Ears, and asking your little brother how to write a text message then of course, there is your dad s fascination with roller coasters. This could go one of 2 ways, either really fun if he likes all the same rides you do or if your dad is like mine, then you should avoid them altogether. My dad made me wait in line for the highest the fastest, and most exciting ride at Disney Space Mountain the line was forever, then we climb into a car that zips off I started to question my dad about the 4 corndogs he had wolfed down while waiting in line then it happened As soon as we hit the first dip in the track (waaaaaah barf sound) my dad HURLS!!! I think it must have hit some people in the cars behind us, because for being at Disney. I sure heard a lot of BAD language thank god Space Mountain is in the dark so no one knew who did it. If you go I suggest sitting in the front!
