2 A B O U T Voyage of Irish Dance is the first Irish dance academy in Australia trained conform the Cumann Rince Náisiúnta (CRN) syllabus. CRN was established in 1982 in Dublin, Ireland. Its promotion and encouragement in the art of Irish Dancing while protecting their tradition, contributed to the growing numbers of registered teachers (ODCRN) worldwide. CRN s competitions successfully operate with the Open Platform, where any dancer from any teacher, from any part of the world or any organisation can compete. CRN believes in honesty, justice and fairness. CRN s motto is: Do not do to others what you would not like done to you. CRN s founder Ita Cadwell used the following phrase: The honest road is the right and just road to take, but it is also a very hard and difficult road to take. 5 Meet the Teachers Marieclaire Beekmans Principal & ODCRN Dutch by origin Marieclaire migrated to Australia in She took on a bold adventure to bring CRN to Australia. With a Bachelors degree in Welfare Work, she was able to empower many people the love for the traditional style of Irish dance. Her journey began in June 2006 with her very first student. She completed her teachers training & qualification in Dublin, while building up classes at the same time. She became the first fully qualified ODCRN in Australia in In 2017 she hosted the Inaugural CRN Southern Cross Australia Féis leading to the Southern Cross Australia Féis Inc. being created, opening up many opportunities for dancers/teachers in the near future. Currently she is Jaye Somogyi s trainer towards her preparations for her teachers ODCRN exams. Jaye Somogyi Associate Teacher CRN Jaye is a very dedicated Irish dancer, who has been teaching with Marieclaire since She started Irish dancing 17 years ago. She qualified for the World Open Irish Dancing Championships and travelled to Ireland to compete in June She commenced her teacher training in 2013, following in Marieclaire s footsteps to become a qualified Irish dance teacher (ODCRN). She also takes on an administrative role at Voyage of Irish Dance assisting in all aspects of the dance academy incl. the organisation of CRN Southern Cross Australia Féis. Jaye s busy schedule includes being a mum to beautiful son Oliver & daughter Evelyn. Jessica Holland Assistant Teacher Jessica started dancing with Voyage of Irish Dance in 2008, prior to that she had danced at a state and national level in CLRG (another form of Irish dance). She definitely preferred the more traditional style CRN has and has stuck with it ever since. In 2017 she was a founding member of the SCA Féis committee and now holds the position of treasurer. Jessica looks forward to promoting Open Platform and getting our dancers ready for competition locally and nationally. She loves seeing the dancers learn and progress with their dancing. In 2017 she finished a Bachelors degree in Commerce and is now in a full-time graduate position within Coles.

17 What to bring to class? SHOES If you already have the proper Irish dancing shoes, then bring them in. Otherwise bring ballet shoes, jazz shoes, jazz sneakers or socks as an alternative for soft shoes. No sandals or thongs. For hard shoes bring leather soled shoes or shoes in which you are able to produce sound. No rubber soled shoes. You can buy new shoes (soft & hard) & poodle socks direct from your principal or you could check for second-hand pairs. Proper Irish dancing footwear needs to be worn after your first term of Irish dancing. DANCE WEAR Academy s leotards, T-shirts, singlets and hoodies are available to buy/order from your principal. All Footwear & Uniform items will be available to try on at your venue every week. When trying on new soft shoes, keep in mind that they need to be fitted very snug and unbearable to wear. If you buy them comfortable already, you will end up with too big soft shoes after a few weeks of dancing. Soft shoes stretch really quickly. When trying on hard shoes and they feel comfortable, try on smaller sizes as well. Although the stretch will not be as obvious, hard shoes will stretch and dancing in oversized hard shoes will not contribute to your quality of dancing. If uncertain feel free to ask for support from any of the teachers. Order forms need to be filled in and returned to the principal. If an item is in stock you will receive it the following week. If an item needs to be ordered you will be informed accordingly. HAIR UP & OUT OF FACE Make sure your hair is up & out of your face. WATER BOTTLE & SMALL TOWEL Irish dancing is very energetic, so make sure to bring water and/or some energy drink with you in class. A small towel to wipe away perspiration is also a necessity.

18 NOTEBOOK, PENCIL & FOLDER Practice makes perfect. Writing the steps in your own words will make it easier to remember when you practice your steps in between classes. Before the start of every term invoices for that term will be issued. Invoices will be ed to you AND you will receive a hard copy in class. On your term invoice you will have a due date (4 weeks from date of invoice). There is also an early bird due date. If payment is received by this Early Bird discount due date, you will receive a 5% discount over the total invoice. The received discount will be deducted from your following invoice. A late fee of $10 will be charged if payment is not received by the due date as per the invoice. Every month not paid you will be charged a $25 account keeping fee. If invoice is still outstanding 3 months after due date, we see no other option then to hand over the account to our debt collection agency Prushka. This will incur extra costs on top of your outstanding invoice.

23 Every dancer can make use of our costumes. An one-off Costume Fee of $30 for 2018 will be charged if you make use of our costume(s). This fee incorporates cleaning, repair, making & handling costs. Costumes will remain in ownership of "Voyage of Irish Dance". No reimbursement will be given when classes are missed by the enrolled student. Classes can be made up in a similar class at a different venue with prior notice. If due to sickness of the teacher or other unexpected circumstances a class needs to be cancelled, a class will be made up or a reimbursement for that specific class will be given. Arrive 10 minutes before class time, to put your shoes on and get ready for class. If you need to discuss something with the teacher, please do so outside class times. If the teacher needs to teach another class straight after yours, then make sure to leave a message by phone, letter, to discuss matters. The teacher will contact you a.s.a.p. HAPPY IRISH DANCING TO ALL! SLAÍNTE!
