6 Lifting slings European standard (Extract of European Standards NF EN and 2) This European standard specifies the application fields for all textile lifting equipment and accessories, as well as their manufacturing specifications. It aims to comply with the main safety requirements of the machinery directive 2006/42/EC. In addition, it specifies the manufacturing, identification and marking methods for lifting slings ; it enables to record their specifications, to mention their Working Load Limit (WLL) and to describe the method or the various methods used for their control. To allow the use of flat webbing slings and round slings, the label of EC conformity, the certification of conformity and the operating instructions are compulsory. Safety instructions TAGS PRESENT ON ANY WEBBING SLINGS product Never slide slings under a load. Never leave a load laying on a sling. 2 Never knot slings or never use twisted slings. 3 Protect slings from any sharp edges. 4 Never use knotted, cut or damaged slings without tags Carefully check the weight of the load. Never overload slings. Use the slings with the appropriate working load limit. 6 Use slings in a temperature range of -40 C to +100 C. 7 Reference to the standards. A) Safety factor : its minimal value must be at least equal to : 4 7 :1 for webbing and round slings, 4 4 :1 for accessories made of steel, 4 5 :1 for the remaining components. B) Breaking strength : webbing slings and round slings must resist to a strength at least equal to 7 times their WLL. C) Traceability code : this code must at least enable to identify the following basic information : 4 Identification of the sling, 4 Identification of the controls done by the manufacturer, 4 Identification of the accessories. Never overload and do not exceed Working Load Limit. Take into account the lifting configuration and the lifting angle. Consider the centre of gravity of the load. Never hang the slings on the hook tip. Protect slings from sharp edges. Use slings at temperatures ranging from -40 C to +100 C. Consult manufacturer in case of chemical exposure. Consider hook dimensions. If necessary use shortening hook. Destroy and replace slings as soon as the wearing indicator is visible (available on MEGA round slings only). Make sure the load is uniformly distributed on the whole sling width. Type of chemical %? Concentration C? Temperature Connect slings together using appropriate loops and metal rings only. 18 Protection POLYSAFE COATINGS Perfect protection during the handling of your fragile loads Slings coated with polyurethane in accordance with EN standard and complying with the amended machine directive 2006/42/CE Safety factor 7 : 1 Ref : EP1 Ref : EP2 REMARK : While slings fitted with POLYSAFE polyurethane sleeves are positioned by translation, those which have been processed with a POLYSAFE polyurethane coating stick to the loads and, by consequence, wrong positioning of the slings can lead to considerable vibrations. The POLYSAFE polyurethane coating enhances the slings life while handling loads that can slip easily such as ducts and pipes. POLYSAFE polyurethane coating is applied on a single side or both sides of slings up to 300 width. POLYSAFE coatings are processed on any kind of sling with or without rings on their whole length if required. A POLYSAFE coating on both sides brings perfect protection against liquids. 19 Protection POLYURETHANE SPRAYING When protection means flexibility! 1 Webbing protection against abrasion and humidity 2 Enhances the life of the slings 3 High flexibility The polyurethane spraying provides some resistance properties to the slings in contact with some specific chemicals. Please contact us for further information. Polyurethane spraying applied directly on the webbing ensures optimal penetration of the elastomer into the webbing. A thin layer (0.5 to 1 ) is enough to protect the webbing against abrasion and humidity, but it is not appropriate against chemicals attacks (use a POLYSAFE coating in that case). A polyurethane spraying is applied on single side or both sides of webbing slings and 50 meters (maximum) webbing rolls. Example of use : lifting of loads with a rough surface such as concrete pipes, marble blocks, flat steel bars, and any use on road work sites. POLYNAPPE sling combines flexibility and resistance and is made of a set of 14 hawsers of steel cable and coated over with polyurethan. Manufactured from one single rope, each end is made of a wire rope loop (steel cable strope type) and coated with polyurethane for its protection. Compare the free space under the user with the space required by the system in case of a fall - taking into consideration the obstacles, the swinging movements, and the possible anchor points (see Calculating Clearance diagram p 15). 4A rescue plan must be provided for a rapid evacuation of the user if necessary. 4The user must weigh less than 100 kg. 4In a fall arrest system, the only authorized body-equipment device is a full body harness. 4On a full body harness, only the points marked with an A are anchor points. 4The anchor point with a resistance superior to 10kN must be above the user.
