7 ROOF TOP LADDER Safety while working over Fragile Roofs... While working over Fragile Roofs Safety, while working over Asbestos Cement sheets, has assumed high significance due to serious risks involved, often resulting in fatal accidents and it is difficult for any employer to escape from the responsibilities of providing safe working methods to his employees. Factory Rules state the Protective measures relating to Fragile Roofs as In any factory, no worker shall be required to stand or pass over or work on or near any roof or ceiling covered with fragile material through which he is liable to fall, in case it breaks or gives way, a height of more than 03 meters, unless:- A) Suitable and sufficient ladders, duck ladders or crawling boards which shall be securely supported, are provided and used; and B) A permit to work on the fragile roof is issued to him each time he is required to work there on by a responsible person of the factory concerned. Out of this, crawling board (also called Roof Ladder) is the only device which can be used for working safely above A. C. Sheets and thereby its usage becomes a statutory requirement for
8 any work (like sheet replacement, laying of new sheets, bolt replacement, leak proofing etc.) Above A.C sheet roofs. WHY TO USE ROOF LADDERS? 01.Safety of Workmen/contract workmen A.C. Sheets, even though manufactured strong, lose the bond between asbestos fibre and cement due to hairline cracks, which develop through the negligence of unskilled sheet fitting workers. The constant action of environmental pollution, terrain, rains, wind pressures, temperature variation, vibrations and other adverse conditions produced during process further weaken them. The worker unknowingly steps on such a sheet and fall. 02. Statutory Compliance Enforcing Authorities can prosecute an occupier or the Manager only for non compliance of what is required in the Rules; be it the providing of Breathing apparatus, Safety belt or Roof ladder. Hence the legal consequence of an accident with out them can be left to one s imagination. We have any number of examples around us. 03. Damage of A.C. Sheets The load bearing capacity of Asbestos Cement sheets is only 55 Kgs per sq. Ft. With the area of both the feet together is less than 0.3sq. Ft., The load imposed by human body over A.C. Sheet is manifolds of its load bearing capacity. This creates cracks on the sheet which may go unnoticed or neglected by the workmen, even though it may not necessarily result in accidents. Based on the above, your decision today could be timely. We at Sure Safety are just a phone call away to help you. Specialty of Roof Top Ladders Sturdy but light parts The Parts used are sturdy and at the same time light in weight. Weather Proof Construction The ladder has been constructed of weather proof materials and hence the ladders do not get damaged even if exposed to rain or sunlight. Cost per set The cost per set is less comparing with the cost of parts. This has been made possible only by selling the product with a very narrow margin. Easy to use The cumbersome auxiliaries have been eliminated by expert designing of the product so as to encourage the users. I.S.Norms The product is being supplied according to I.S. Norms using the best available materials. Safety Roof Top Ladder is manufactured from sturdy extruded light weight aluminum provided with a sliding device, Elevating pads and Quick-action clamps. This set comprises of : Ladder 3m in length 3 Nos. Half ladder 1.5m in length 1 No. Working platforms 0.6m length 3 Nos. Quick-action clamps 25 Nos. Elevating pads 15 Nos. Safety belt complete with pouch, 3m Life ling and Screw hook 1 No. The system permits a linear coverage of 10.5m from any point on a fragile roof. Working on the platforms is possible up to 1.2m from the ladder path. For working beyond 1.2m the ladder can be adjusted across the roof corrugations.
9 Ladder System Distributes the weight of the worker over several saddles to ensures that the weight is transferred equally to the load bearing structure of the roof for the safety of the worker, instead of the fragile corrugated roof. The ladders are so designed that a worker can reach any point from the roof and not necessarily from the apex
