3 Message from Mike Williams, Chair Warwickshire Cricket Board Thank you for your interest in becoming a Non-Executive Director of the Warwickshire Cricket Board. Building on our excellent track record, WCB is fully committed to delivering the key priorities of Cricket Unleashed the England and Wales Cricket Board s Strategy for cricket in the next few years. At a time when participation in recreational cricket is falling and fewer children are attracted to take up the game, the game needs people with enthusiasm, energy and the will to be successful. That is equally true at school, team, club and, of course, WCB Board level. This pack includes a Role Description for our Non-Executive Directors and details on the work of WCB but do please feel free to ring me ( ) or the Board Vice Chair Danny Longhorne ( ) if you would like more information. Expressions of interest, which should include a covering letter and CV, should be sent to Angela Durndell, angeladurndell@edgbaston.com by Monday 10 th April. We look forward to hearing from you. Mike Williams

5 Annual report for 2015/ was a very good year for Warwickshire Cricket Board. We continued to be very well supported by the County Club, the England & Wales Cricket Board and Chance to Shine as our primary funders, but also by the members of the Company and the stakeholders whom we represent and serve. There was consistency and continuity in our staffing arrangements both in terms of the nonexecutive Directors and the paid employees and thanks are due to the whole team for their continued efforts to serve the game, which often involve long days and busy weekends. Special mention must also be made of the County Welfare Officers, who continue to provide much needed advice and support. Some of the statistical achievements and outcomes of the staff s efforts for the year were: Increase in overall participation of over 2% Providing some form of cricket to 201 schools in conjunction with Chance to Shine 75 Primary School festivals took place The qualification of 212 new coaches 20 inner city coaching programmes ran teams played in WCB Club Youth Competitions Unique players captured on play-cricket grew from 12,455 to 12,634 The million pound mark was passed for ECB capital investment in the County since ,000 Birmingham Bears bat distributed to local children Other highlights of the year included excellent OSCAs and Coach Award events hosted by the County Club, the size and scale of the school and club competitions, consolidation of the new District system, a big year for Coach Education and the on-going community programmes. As we now turn our attention to the 2017 season we are challenged to deliver the ECB s new Cricket Unleashed Strategy which is basically about growing participation levels from age 5 for life. This is a challenge we are ready for and are passionate about delivering. Whilst all elements of Cricket Unleashed are important to us we are developing our own County Strategy which will also meet the needs of our other funders and stakeholders. We are delighted to be a component of the County Club s Strategy under the heading of Excellence in Cricket Development. We have seen and understand the local need to grow the female game and this will feature as a key component of our future plans.

Groundsmanship The Warwickshire Groundsman Association held its annual awards at Knowle & Dorridge CC hosted by ECB Pitch Adviser Ian Maddocks and renowned consultant Alan Lewis. Steve Edwards and Berkswell CC won the Geoff Calcott Trophy for the most improved wicket and ground in the County. This award was presented by Chris Calcott.

10 Tony Bristow, Coventry & North Warwicks CC won the Birmingham League trophy and Phil Cole, Weoley Hill CC won the Warwickshire Cricket League award. Congratulations go to these groundsmen for their superb efforts and skill in consistently preparing excellent wickets. Alan Lewis speech after the awards was superb and covered the need for groundsmen to take the guesswork out of preparation by utilising PQS reports, core samples and soil testing etc as well as touching on smart rolling, spiking, fraise mowing, profiles, layers, grasses, thatch, fibres, fairy rings and worms to name but a few of the topics. Many thanks to Alan for giving the WGA his invaluable time, well done to the winners and many thanks to the following clubs who were represented: Berkswell, Weoley Hill, Coventry & NW, K&D, Kenilworth, Kenilworth Wardens, Stratford-upon- Avon, Moseley, Wellesbourne, Standard, Stoneleigh and Olton & West Warwicks. Later in the year we had a highly informative talk given by Kevin Duffil from the IOG, thank you to Kevin for that and to Ian Maddocks in particular for his efforts in keeping the WGA going. District Cricket The move from six to four districts has been positive with the concentration of playing and coaching talent. We are grateful for the large number of clubs who accommodated the summer matches and to Bablake, King Edward s and Warwick Schools who, once again, hosted the half term festivals admirably. Coach Education There were a lot of L2 and Coach Support Worker courses put on this year. This included a Professional Cricketers course, a South Asia course, some big club CSWs such as Dorridge CC sending 30 candidates and in general terms the qualification of many very promising coaches The successful programme grows in 2017 as we have entered into a partnership with Worcestershire Cricket Board to administer their courses. Community Programmes WCB was pleased to be a significant part of Warwickshire CCC s Community Engagement Award at the ECB s Business of Cricket Awards (BOCA) in WCB assisted the club in the formulation and delivery in a number of the recognised reasons for the awards such as the Selco Great Bat Giveway, the Deloitte Cricket Integration Festival, South Asian engagement and Cricket Development, League finals and the free Friday coaching. WCB Incrediball Indoor Cricket proved to be as popular as ever with leagues in Birmingham and Coventry. WCB also continued to deliver a large Chance to Shine Street programme in Birmingham and launched the Coventry programme with Eoin Morgan at an event at Sidney Stringer Academy.
