2 INTRODUCTION The Surrey Grounds Support Network (SGSN) is all about supporting recreational cricket from the grassroots up. It replaces the Surrey Cricket Groundsman s Association and acknowledges that the world we live in is constantly evolving and changing and that the previous committee structure is probably not relevant today. The SGSN is made up of 9 volunteers based across the county who are here to support clubs directly by being able to provide local advice and support to a range of queries. As an ECB trained Pitch Advisor I will work closely with the group to provide additional technical support where required and we hope this will enable the group to help sustain growth in participation across Surrey and South London. In addition to this support the SGSN will continue to deliver its core programmes which include Pitch Advisor visits, the Machinery Hire Service, regular Workshops and the Conference, all of which we believe plays a key role in supporting the network to enhance our wonderful game. We are here to be of help when needed so please do not hesitate to contact us on any cricket ground related query however large or small. John Dodwell ECB County Pitch Adviser for Surrey The IOG in partnership with the ECB through the Grounds and Natural Turf Improvement Programme (GanTIP) are focussed on raising standards, raising awareness and improving education within groundsmanship across major sports. The Introduction of the proposed SGSN is an exciting opportunity for Surrey to make positive steps forward in order to achieve these targets. The ECB is fully committed to further developing the network of knowledge and best practice in groundsmanship in Surrey. We will achieve this through our support for the Grounds Support Network, in partnership with the IOG and the ECB Pitch Advisor and will further develop the Grounds and Natural Turf Programme with the aim of improving the playing surfaces for cricket.

In 2007 John became Surrey s ECB County Pitch Advisor and has gone on to support over 50 clubs in the county since training. John was also chair of the Surrey County Groundsman s Association for 3 years and will continue a lead role within the Surrey Grounds Support Network as it develops. He was groundsman at Leamington Cricket Club, a leading Midland club, for 15 years before taking up the post of head groundsman at Reigate Priory Cricket Club in His responsibilities at Reigate involve looking after Premier league cricket facilities as well as tennis, croquet, bowls, lacrosse, hockey and football surfaces. roger-ted@hotmail.com LONDON - SUTTON, KINGSTON, CROYDON, MERTON, WANDSWORTH, LAMBETH, SOUTHWARK JON WILLIAMS Has worked in the industry since 2010 and specialises in football and cricket. PITCH ADVISOR VISITS There are two levels of the pitch reports that can be carried out by our County Pitch Advisor. A standard Pitch Quality Assessment costs 100 and includes a report and details of any remedial work that can help improve the quality of the pitch or outfield. A full Pitch Quality Standards assessment and report with soil analysis costs 350 and provides a further level of detail that some clubs or schools may require. MACHINERY HIRE SERVICE Managed by John Dodwell, a range of heavy machinery is available to hire at heavily discounted prices to affiliated clubs and schools. The machinery can be delivered to clubs and is usually around 50% cheaper than the commercial rates a club would have to pay. DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS These informal and formal workshops are run in partnership with the Institute of Groundsmanship and cover a range of subjects such as pitch preparation, repairs, maintenance and renovations.
