1 District Cricket Competition Summer Programme 2012 Preamble District Cricket is played between seven Districts within the County of at U15 and U13 level with each District playing 3 home games and 3 away games at each level. The overall winners receive the Colin Davies Cup for getting the most points (combined points across the U13 and U15 age groups). In the event of two or more districts having the same points at the end of the season the winner shall be determined as follows: Number of wins if still tied total of runs scored divided by wickets lost. Additionally from 2011, there will be an IPL style cap award for the best batsman and best bowler in each District (at both U13 and U15) the manager/coach will award this to the player in his squad scoring the highest aggregate number of runs or taking the highest number of wickets up to and including the previous game. The Best Batsman and Best Bowler Cap Awards will be sponsored by Derby Grammar School. The idea will be that the batsman and bowler in receipt of the cap will wear it in the field during the game. At the end of the season, the player in receipt of the cap will keep it. Matches. Fixtures for district matches to be arranged by Friday 23rd March. At least four games to be scheduled before 22nd July (there will be no under 13/15 development camps in Spring Bank Holiday Week ( Jun 2 to 9) to allow District fixtures), the other two games can be after this with an end date of 26 th August for the competition. Matches cancelled due to the weather can be rearranged at anytime up to the end date of 26 th August. Start times for District Matches can be 11.00am or 1.00pm, as a guideline both teams should arrive at the ground 1 hour before the start of play. See Appendix 1 for the detail of the fixtures. The matches consist of 40 overs per side at U13 and 45 overs at U15. In the event of a side being all out before their allocation of overs the remaining overs are NOT added to the overs of the side batting second. U13 8 overs max per bowler (Max 5 overs per spell, following ECB Fast Bowling Directives) U15 9 overs max per bowler (Max 6 overs per spell, following ECB Fast Bowling Directives) Matches are to be operated in a similar fashion to the County Age Group Squads whereby they are 12 a side with 11 only batting, 11 only fielding at any time and the 12 th man can bowl. There are no restrictions imposed on players leaving the field and then coming back on to bowl. Players MUST inform the umpire that they are leaving the field of play and or coming back on. Cancellations/Replays. Matches must take place on the scheduled date and the only acceptable reasons for cancellation is ground unfit (due to weather) or if the venue becomes unavailable and another ground cannot be found for the scheduled date. Replays for cancelled matches (as above) allowed subject to the re-arrangement being agreed by the two Districts involved and the match MUST be played before the end of competition date of August 26th. Abandoned matches. Once started, a match that is abandoned (even after just 1 ball) is not to be replayed. Match Balls Match balls for district games will be supplied by the DCB. Two balls (4.75oz for U13 matches, 5.5oz for U15 matches) + spare to be supplied by home team at each match. (Please collect your District Balls from the DCB Office) Pitches U13 games to be 21 yards long & u15 games to be 22 yards long Match Fees DCB Guidance to District Chairs: Head Coach and Assistant Coach / Manager to be paid each per match (the covers expenses) Umpires match fees will remain the same as last year, per umpire per match. Summer Coaching District summer coaching (outdoors) will be optional. Points 3 points for a win 1 point for a tied, abandoned or cancelled game ( A Tied game will be one resulting in both sides finishing on the same score and having lost the same number of wickets. If 2 sides score the same number of runs, the one having lost the fewer number of wickets will be the winner.) 0 points for a loss

2 Results The match result is to be placed on play-cricket.com by the home team (within 48 hours) and the full scorecard to be uploaded onto play cricket within 7 days after the match has been completed. The names of the player being awarded the Derby Grammar School Best Batsman and Best Bowler after each game should also be placed onto the website at the end of each District game. Over Rates Guidance is given to umpires that an U13 match of 40 overs a side including two 5 Minute Drinks Break per innings, then each innings should finish in 2 hours and 40 minutes and an U15 innings of 45 overs including two 5 minute Drinks Break should finish in 2 hours and 55 minutes. Any innings taking longer than this to be reported to the DCB Performance Committee. Wide Balls Uniformity of playing conditions - U13 not to have tight wides & U15 to have tight wides. Teas No teas will be supplied. Bring your own unless by special arrangement. Managers to ensure that no-one in their squad goes without food and drink. Conduct (See Appendix 2 & 3) A code of conduct exists for players in any kind of DCB representative match ( i.e. County or District ) and this should be strictly adhered to in order to promote the player pathway which exists towards county representation and instil the right habits. Team managers are requested to clarify the expectations in terms of players behaviour and to reinforce the importance of the competition. Dress Dress expectations are:- All District sides should be encouraged to wear their own District cap. All teams should be encouraged to wear the same shirts, if this is a District shirt so much the better. (If the player is currently a member of a county squad, then he is entitled to wear his county shirt. However, he should not wear it beyond the season during which he is a county player.) Status There is a need to reinforce the understanding that District cricket is an integral part of the player pathway of development, below the County Squad, and as such should take priority over club junior cricket. Development Cricket Dates (U13 and U15) (No District Matches to be played on these dates) Training Programme: The training dates have been set around training alongside the County age group sides to integrate the two programmes better. Please avoid any district training/matches on these dates. 4 Appendix 2 DERBYSHIRE CRICKET BOARD DISTRICT CRICKET PROGRAMME PLAYERS CODE OF CONDUCT We ask our young cricketers to follow the code of conduct, which is designed to ensure that District teams in observe high standards both on and off the field. 1. Please conduct yourself on the field in a sporting and courteous manner. Play the game competitively, but always show respect to the opposition and to the match officials. Sledging and dissent are unacceptable. 2. Remember that you are guests of clubs that host the matches. Ensure that you use facilities properly and, for example, always leave the changing rooms in a tidy condition. 3. Whites must be worn at all times during the hours of play. Appropriate cricket training clothing may be worn for pre-match practice as agreed with your manager. 4. Each District may have a different Dress Code (eg. Shirt and tie) as determined by the Manager. Ensure that you conform to that code! 5. Players should arrive one hour before the start of the match, or as requested by your manager. 6. It is important that, if selected for a match, that you contact your manager immediately if you are injured, unwell or think you may not be able to play. Do not hesitate; it is vital that the manager knows immediately that you may be doubtful. 7. You are responsible for making arrangements to travel to matches, though your manager will help organise those who have transport problems. 8. Please show this to your parents. Enjoy Your Cricket.

5 Appendix 3 DERBYSHIRE CRICKET BOARD DISTRICT CRICKET PROGRAMME CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS Support for ALL players should be positive and encouraging. Show respect to the opposition, players and officials by avoiding negative criticism. Abusive behaviour of any kind is totally unacceptable. Foul language is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding the good performance of ALL. Never punish or belittle yours or any child for losing or making mistakes. Accept officials judgements and decisions. Accept the instructions and decisions from coaches at all times. Support your child s involvement and help them to enjoy their cricket. Parents should not enter the field of play or changing rooms, unless requested to do so by the manager, coach or officials. During play, parents should watch the game away from the players and manager/coach. Parents should inform coaches and managers of any medication required by players and medical conditions in advance of coaching sessions and matches. Parents should not attempt to coach players. Coaching should be left to the coaches. Support the coaches in the management of your child. Inform the management/coaches if there are circumstances outside of cricket that are impacting on their child s performance. Inform the team manager if your child is unable to play in match for which they have been selected as early as possible. Encourage your child to learn the laws of the game and play within them. Parents need to gain permission to photograph or video any players under the age of 16. Any complaints or concerns should be brought the attention of the manager or coach as soon as possible.

6 ECB Fast Bowling Directives The fast bowling guidelines are designed to raise awareness of the need to nurture and protect young fast bowlers through their formative years. Research has shown that fast bowlers are by far the most likely cricketers to be missing playing and training time due to injury. GUIDELINES FOR MATCHES: AGE: MAX OVERS PER SPELL MAX OVERS PER DAY Up to U14, U U16, U U18, U *For the purpose of these guidelines a fast bowler should be defined as a bowler to whom a wicket keeper in the same age group would in normal circumstances stand back to take the ball.
