4 Further Information about the Junior Section At Mickleover Cricket club we believe that taking part in sport should be a positive and enjoyable part of our children s lives. With this in mind we want to make sure that children are protected and kept safe from physical, sexual and emotional harm whilst they are with the club s coaches, assistants, team managers, volunteers and whilst playing adult cricket. To achieve this we have the following aims: All volunteers who are involved with junior cricket have been CRB checked. Coaching sessions are run with ECB qualified coach input. All coaches, assistants and volunteers will abide by all of the clubs policies. The club will encourage volunteers to stay up to date with cricket coaching and child protection issues. We will keep written records of attendance, parental consents, parent or guardian contact details and accidents. As a club we will always promote fair play and always play within the spirit of the laws of the game. We have appointed Welfare Officers to deal with any concerns about physical, sexual or emotional abuse within the club. Child Protection Policy Mickleover Cricket Club acknowledges its responsibility to safeguard the welfare of every child and young person who has been entrusted to its care and is committed to working to provide a safe environment for all members. A child or young person is anyone under the age of 18 engaged in any club activity. We have adopted the English Cricket Board Safe hands Welfare of young people in cricket policy. The main principles of our child protection policy are that: The child s welfare is, and must always be, the paramount consideration All children and young people have a right to be protected from abuse regardless of their age, gender, disability, culture, language, racial origin, religious beliefs or sexual orientation All suspicions and allegations of physical, sexual or emotional abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately
5 Working in partnership with other organisations, children and young people and their parents or carers is essential. We acknowledge that every child or young person who plays or participates in cricket should be able to take part in an enjoyable and safe environment and be protected from poor practice and abuse. Mickleover Cricket Club recognises that this is the responsibility of every adult involved in our club. Transport to matches and practice sessions Mickleover Cricket Club policy is that parents or other responsible adults are responsible for transporting players to and from all matches and practice sessions and therefore the Club will not be registering Private Vehicles for the transportation of individuals in connection with any fixtures or practice sessions arranged by the Club. The implementation of this policy is not intended to exclude any player from participation and parents or guardians should contact a Club Welfare Officer if they have any problems with the transportation of players to matches or practice sessions. Safety guidance on the wearing of cricket helmets by young players At the beginning of 2007 the ECB clarified the guidance relating to young players in adult matches and confirmed that all young players who have not reached their 18th birthday must wear a helmet with a faceguard when batting and when standing up to the stumps when keeping wicket in adult matches. Parental consent not to wear a helmet should not be accepted in adult cricket. This guidance applies to all players up to the age of 18, both in adult cricket and in all junior cricket played with a hard cricket ball. The guidance also applies during all practice sessions. Any individual taking responsibility for players should take all reasonable steps to ensure that this guidance is followed at all times. The ECB asks that the guidance is communicated to the parents or guardians of all young players through clubs and schools, and that young players are not allowed to bat or stand up to the stumps when keeping wicket against a hard ball without wearing a helmet.
6 Mickleover Cricket Club policy is to ensure that young players and parents are aware of and comply with these guidelines. Club Changing Policy For players under the age of 16 playing in adult teams the following policy applies: Young players uncomfortable with changing or showering with adults are under no obligation to do so and are advised to change and shower at home Parental consent must be given if Young Players are to share changing facilities with adults If Young Players are sharing changing facilities with adults, parents have the option to supervise them whilst they are changing. The Club will make reasonable efforts to arrange this.
