3 About Us The Barnabas Football Academy exists to provide high quality training for all children, aged Our unique and personalised methods ensure that every player makes progress regardless of ability. There is no selection for the Academy, all players of all abilities are welcome and we believe all players will gain confidence, develop new skills and develop their football ability. Barnabas FC has been launched to allow our players who wish to, the opportunity of playing in a team within the local league. Why Barnabas? The word Barnabas means 'encourager' and at our football academy and in our football team, we seek to encourage all our children to achieve their best, not just in football but in all areas of their lives. Our Coaches All our coaches are volunteers. All have an enhanced DBS (formally called CRB). Our Training We use the games and coaching techniques of Futsal, developed in South America and credited with the successful development of many South American stars such as Messi, Ronaldinho and many more. We also use many drills and techniques developed from studying football skills training throughout the world and our own extensive coaching experience. During my childhood in Portugal, all we played was futsal. The smaller court helped my footwork skills, the nature of the game made me feel so free when I played. If it wasn t for Futsal, I would definitely not be the player I am today. Cristiano Ronaldo At our training sessions children spend the majority of the time with a ball each or in pairs, working to develop key skills and techniques. A typical training session consists of: ball mastery skills; passing; shooting; focus on a theme i.e. moves to beat players and Futsal games Registration Please can parents visit the registration page of our website in order to register your child. 2

5 Practicing at Home We encourage our players to practice their skills as often as possible, just 5-15 minutes a day of skills practise will make you a better player. In our sessions we teach players many skills which will help them to improve as a player, however to fully master these skills and become the best player you can be takes hours of practice and dedication. To help players practise their skills at home we have a section on our website ( that will give them a variety of skills they can practise. Home practices can be accessed on our website by using the password which you can get by ing Matt: matt@tbfa.co.uk Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do. Pele Individual Training Plans In addition Matt is always happy to create individual training plans for any of our players, just ask him at training or him. matt@tbfa.co.uk Skills Badge We have a skills badge which we hope will encourage players to work hard in training and at home to develop their skills. Details can be found on our website (again you will need the password by ing Matt) We will use the skills badge in training sessions and give players plenty of opportunities to be assessed. When players achieve a level they will receive a skills badge which can be placed on their team jersey. I have many years to get better and better, and that has to be my ambition. The day you think there is no improvements to be made is a sad one for any player. Lionel Messi 4
6 Kit We believe in being professional in everything we do and thus believe it is important for all our players to look smart and feel part of our team. Therefore we ask that once settled in, all children wear our kit to all training sessions and for matches. All players who set up a standing order to make monthly donations will receive a free kit. We also have additional items of kit, players may wish to purchase. All kit can be purchased through Boca Soccer. Please follow the link on our website to the kit website. The vision of a champion is someone who is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion, when no one else is watching. Anson Dorrance 5
7 Donations Our suggested monthly donation for We aim to ensure that all children can attend our sessions. Rather than a fee we ask parents to make a donation, we provide a suggested donation, we also suggest deductions for those who attend more than one session a week and for siblings. We encourage parents to sign a gift aid form which allows us to claim back tax (please do this when registering your child online). We received approximately 900 from the Government through Gift Aid last year, this money is used to purchase new equipment and pay towards our running costs. 1 hour per week 1 hour 30 mins per week 2 hours per week Weekly Autumn Term Spring Term Summer Term Monthly standing order If possible we would like Barnabas Academy / Barnabas FC players/parents to make a monthly donation by standing order. If you chose to do this we will provide your child with a free kit. If you use online banking please use the details below to set this up, if not then please ask Matt for a form, our bank details are: The Barnabas Sports Trust For Barnabas FC players the above donation includes training and match fees. If parents are unable to afford the suggested donations then please speak to us, we want to ensure that all children can participate in our sessions and that money is never a barrier to this. We suggest that if you have more than 1 child attending you make a donation of half the suggestion above for each sibling. Sort Code: Account Number:
