Welcome to Albury FC Welcome to the Handbook for Albury Football Club. This not only helps to find the information you need but also helps everyone to understand the ethos of the club which is to enjoy playing football at all levels and bringing the community together. Our Aim We are an inclusive club, aiming to provide football for all abilities.. We strive to provide advanced coaching for those more developed players so they continue to improve and progress, whilst also providing community football for those players who prefer to play in a less highly competitive environment. We also aim to serve a hub for the community, to bring children and adults together to enjoy the sport, forming friendships that may last for years or even a lifetime. 4

Chairman s Report Thank you to everyone who has helped with coaching, assisting coaches, reffing, running lines, organising matches, training and social events, and everything else the club depends on to run. In particular, thank you to Liz Sutherland who has been our membership secretary and will be leaving the club this year. Last year, we had 380 young footballers aged 4 to 18, playing in 28 teams on 18 pitches at 7 different locations, with 44 coaches, playing in 5 different leagues, coaching midweek and on weekends and arranging events such as the brilliant u6, u7 and u8s football camping weekend, which raised over 1,500 in funds, and the summer sports dinner also raised over 7,000. The money raised has helped to pay for 2 new storage facilities at Tillingbourne School (which cost over 3,200) as well as contributing to the maintenance costs we have maintaining and preparing football pitches. It may come as quite a shock to many of you to find out that the cost of ground maintenance alone was over 24,000 last year, this is not counting 5,000 of pitch hire and 10,000 spent on equipment. Our total expenditure last year was 52, 823 and income was 51,469. As a result we have had to raise the membership subscription again, sorry. We hope to balance the books this year. This wonderful club exists and can only continue to exist in its current form if you, the parents, continue to volunteer to manage the teams and the club. For this coming season, we desperately need more help for the central running of the club. Primarily we require a new Chairperson, a new membership secretary, and also welfare officers, events coordinators, and a minutes secretary. If new volunteers can't be found to take on these roles, the club will eventually grind to a halt so please consider volunteering for a role for a year during your time with the club. Finally, I would like to mention that Albury Football Club is part of Albury Sports Club (which I will remain part of after stepping down as Football Chairman). The aim of Albury Sports Club is to provide sports and improve facilities for the children and everyone in our community. If you are interested in introducing new sports to Albury Sports Club, or would like to become involved in any way then please get in touch. Regards from the Albury FC committee Carl Nunn Niklas Carlen Liz Sutherland Colin Fisher Juliet Beeson Alex Miller Rachel Long /Neil Dolling Helen Ross Chairman Secretary Memberships Funding Welfare Treasurer Equipment Bookkeeping 5

Albury FC Code of Conduct Sport is an important part of life. All those involved with sport at every level, whether as a player, match official, coach, owner or administrator, have a responsibility, above and beyond compliance with the law, to act according to the highest standards of integrity, and to ensure that the reputation of sport is, and remains, high. What you can expect from Our Coaches Our coaches are volunteers, freely giving up their time to support and promote the club. Their input is invaluable to the club. All our coaches have a FA Level 1 Coaching certificate or higher, with a valid DBS and First Aid Certificate Coaches will: Set the right examples for the players, parents and players, adhering to and promoting the Club s and the FA s RESPECT Code of Conduct Show respect to others involved in the game including match officials, opposition players, coaches, managers, officials and spectators Place the wellbeing, safety and enjoyment of all players above everything else, including winning Explain exactly what is expected from the players and what they can expect from them Ensure the parents of all players under the age of 18 understand these expectations Ensure all players wear appropriate clothing including shin pads before allowing them to play Never enter the field of play without the referee's permission Never engage in public criticism of the match officials, respecting their decisions Never engage in, or tolerate, offensive, insulting or abusive language or behavior or bullying. Consistently display high standards of behavior, refraining from the use of foul or inappropriate language Develop mutual trust and respect with every player to build their self-esteem Encourage each player to accept responsibility for their own behavior and performance Ensure all activities organised are appropriate for the players' ability level, experience, age and maturity Co-operate fully with others in football (e.g. officials, doctors, physiotherapists, welfare officers) for each player's best interests Strive to provide equal playing time for all team members. This means preparing a fair substitution policy for each game, regardless of how this affect this outcome of the game. Players should play at least 50% of every game, unless injured or other factors such as disciplinary incidents are involved. Either rotate goalkeepers so that each player spends no more than 25% of their time in goal, or obtain consent from both the child and parent for a player to exceed this time, in which case the player should still have at least 25% outfield playing time for every match. Encourage the players to enjoy football Prepare a Training Session Plan prior to each training session. Share the load. At least have someone to help run sessions on the day and someone to setup and take down goals if needed. Coaches should also ideally have someone to will help with admin such as arranging referees, tournaments and scheduling players. 6

What we expect from Our Players Every player is responsible for their own behaviour. We expect our players to behave appropriately both on and off the pitch and follow the FA s RESPECT Code of Conduct. We expect them to: Always play to the best of their ability Play fairly without cheating or complaining Play by the rules Respect their fellow players, opposing players, the referees and coaches Never engage in abusive language or behaviour, or bullying Shake hands with the other team and referee at the end of the game Listen to their coaches and the referees and respect what they say Be aware that they can talk to the welfare officer or anyone else at the club if they are unhappy about something Enjoy playing What we expect from parents/carers and spectators We ask and expect parents/carers and spectators to observe the FA s Respect Code of Conduct at all times, including the following: Never force a child to participate Encourage the children to play for fun, not just to win Be encouraging for all play, and not just winning Remain outside the field of play and behind the Designated Spectator Area (if provided) Let the coaches and referees do their jobs, and respect their actions and decisions Avoid criticising a player for making a mistake Never engage in abusive language or bullying Be aware of the rules of the game so that they can better understand what they are watching/commenting on. See page 10 for more information 7

Albury FC Code of Conduct - General Community Sport, at all levels, is a vital part of a community. The Club will take into account community feeling when making decisions. Equality The Club is opposed to discrimination of any form and will promote measures to prevent it, in whatever form, from being expressed. Participants The Club recognises the sense of ownership felt by those who participate at all levels of sport. This includes those who play, those who coach or help in any way, and those who officiate, as well as administrators and supporters. The Club is committed to appropriate consultation with those who so participate. Young People The Club acknowledges the extent that sport can influence young people and pledges to set a positive example. Propriety The Club acknowledges that public confidence demands the highest standards of financial and administrative behaviour and as such will not tolerate corruption or improper practices. Trust and Respect The Club will uphold a relationship of trust and respect between all involved in sport, whether they are individuals or other clubs and organisations. Violence The Club rejects the use of violence of any nature by anyone. Fairness The Club is committed to fairness in its dealings with all those involved in the provision of sporting activities. Integrity and Fair Play The Club is committed to the principle of playing to win consistent with Fair Play. 8

Support the FA Respect Programme Referee is in charge Encourage team-mates Shout, but don t criticise Play fairly Enjoy the game Captain only speaks to the referee Try whatever the score To support the FA Respect agenda we will be putting extra emphasis on the importance of sporting behaviour and the importance of showing respect - to team mates, opponents, referees, coaches and parents. We will be continuing to use a time-out system in training for anyone who behaves in an unacceptable or unsporting way and those that do so in a match will be substituted off. Those showing a persistent lack of respect will miss the next match etc. It's important that we all set an example and your touchline support is very important. However, it's important that we all keep our comments positive and avoid shouting instructions to the players. There is an excellent series of videos from the FA that starts with Ray Winston. If you have a moment (10mins) please watch them as they are excellent. Just follow this link to youtube: Parents must register their child at the beginning of every week and ensure there is a responsible adult attending the whole session (not the coach). 9

Other Info & Guidance Playing Kit Playing kit is available online at The teams that play in the Horsham District League are required to have numbered shirts, please contact your coach to find out your number and then place the order online. If you would prefer second hand kit then a small selection is available from Rachel kit@alburyfc.co.uk if you have any kit you no longer require we would be glad to receive it. We also has a selection of small sized football boots for those children whose feet never seem to stop growing Dealing with complaints If you have a complaint then please discuss this privately with the coach after the training session or match, not in front of other parents or as a group. If you are not satisfied after having had this discussion then the welfare officer should be contacted by welfare@alburyfc.co.uk How teams are structured The club recommendation is that teams should be streamed. This allows our players to play at their own level against similarly able opposition and to enjoy the game more. Our squads are split into two categories Development and Community, the Development squads are aimed at players where football is their main sport and there is a requirement for a greater level of commitment as they also have mid-week training. The Community squads are aimed at players who enjoy their football but also have interests in other activities or do not wish to commit additional time to training. Additional training As a club we are delighted when coaches wish to provide additional training. This provides a great deal of benefit for the players that are lucky enough to be offered this, not only for their football skills but also their overall discipline and life skills. Of course the ability to offer this depends on the coaches and the parents. Additional training comes with associated additional costs, in general we ask for a 5 contribution to help cover the cost of pitch rental, floodlighting, external coaches. Sponsorship We welcome team, year group or overall club sponsors If you know someone who is interested please pursue it with them. In order to generate better interest, team or year group sponsorship can be retained 100% by the team or year group generating the income. Current examples of sponsorship can be obtained through Peter Denham. 10

At the time of writing, the club does not have a Sponsorship Coordinator (please let contact us if you know anyone who may be interested). Website and news Every week a number of great matches take place and it would be nice to share this with the rest of the club. If you have a story to share please send it to media@alburyfc.co.uk. 11
