4 CATEGORISING SEONDARY SCHOOLS FOR COMPETITION ENTRY: Criteria should not be a barrier to participation. Schools are free to enter competitions above their designated category. Where Established or schools wish to enter lower level (i.e. B or C) teams in Inter-Cricket or Lady Taverners competitions, then it must be clear that those schools cannot progress to the County Phase of the competition. CATEGORY CRITERIA DEVELOPING Playing regular hardball cricket fixtures for no longer than 4 years;school plays regular fixtures at more than one age-group. ESTABLISHED Playing regular block fixtures at all age-groups, inc. 1st XI where appropriate. NOTES 1. Criteria should be applied to the school, or to the relevant age-group as appropriate; 2. A school may be categorised differently for girls competitions and boys competitions; 3. Regular fixtures implies at least 6 fixtures in one academic year, or involvement in local league, when applied to the relevant age-group; 4. 1st XI implies a team playing at U17 level or above, but may contain younger players. 4

5 LADY TAVERNERS U13 & U15 GIRLS INDOOR CRICKET DISTRICT/AREA COMPETITION AREA PLAY-OFFS IF REQUIRED COUNTY FINAL (6 TEAMS) SECONDARY STATE & INDEPENDENT SCHOOL COMPETITION REGIONAL FINAL NATIONAL FINAL COMPETITION RULES 8 a-side Teams 6 overs per side with a maximum of 2 overs per bowler Batters retire when reaching 16 but can return The boundary wall behind the bowler counts as 4 / 6 Side walls and ceiling count as 1 run 2 runs if batters complete a successful run No ball and Wides count as 2 runs but no extra ball unless it s 6th over when they have to be bowled again. Softball to be used. 5

6 BOYS YR 7/8 & 9/10 INDOOR CRICKET SECONDARY STATE SCHOOL COMPETITION Inter Cricket was designed for boys and girls who, for reasons of facility or ability, can't play hard ball cricket. It bridges the gap between Kwik Cricket and the traditional hardball game, increasing levels of participation in the game, particularly amongst year old children. 7 OUTDOOR INTER CRICKET COMPETITIONS (FOR BOYS YR 7/8 & 9/10 AND GIRLS YR 7/8 & 9/10) SECONDARY STATE SCHOOL COMPETITION The competitions rules are the same for the separate competitions that are run for Boys and Girls. In Summer 2014 the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) issued safety guidance on the wearing of helmets by young players up to the age of 18. This original guidance document can be found online. In brief, the guidance recommends that: With the assistance of schools, cricket clubs and leagues, the wearing of helmets by young players is now standard practice in cricket throughout England and Wales. Helmets are widely available and are covered by a British Standard (BS7928/2013). URL: For the purposes of these Directives a fast bowler is defined as a bowler to whom a wicket keeper in the same age group would in normal circumstances stand back to take the ball.
