2 2 Department: Cricket Performance Reports to: Primary Purpose of the Position Head Coach NSW Blues Position Details Positions Reporting to this Position: Assistant Coach Consultant Coaches Location: Moore Park, Sydney The primary purpose of the Head Coach NSW Blues role is to create, implement and support a program which facilitates excellence in the NSW Blues squad and individual player preparation & performance in all national domestic competitions. This position is a critical contributor to achieving Cricket NSW s strategic goals for NSW and NSW-developed players to form at least 30% of male Australian caps and for the NSW Blues to finish in the Top 2 each year for the Sheffield Shield and Matador Cup. Organisation Environment Cricket NSW is the peak state sporting organisation responsible for the governance, development, promotion and administration of cricket throughout New South Wales. The vision for Cricket NSW is To Ignite Australia s Favourite Sport in Australia s Biggest State. To achieve this vision, Cricket NSW has a number of short-term targets and long-term aspirations. In the short-term, the plan highlights the following strategic imperatives for cricket in New South Wales Continue to produce the most Australian, first-class and BBL players Firmly establish the Sixers and Thunder as teams to rival the biggest NRL clubs in popularity Grow participation significantly in partnership with the many cricket-friendly people of NSW Provide strong leadership to NSW and Australian cricket in a time of change. Secure significant additional investment in cricket in NSW. In the longer term, Cricket NSW aspires to be number 1 in the country for production of Australian players, attendance, fan passion, team success, participation and investment in the game. The strategy for Cricket NSW has five pillars that are critical to achieve the vision to Ignite Australia s Favourite Sport in Australia s Biggest State; 1. Grow cricket s NSW fan base significantly especially via the BBL 2. Be the No.1 producer of talent in Australian Cricket 3. Increase participation substantially and inspire the next generations of NSW players, fans and volunteers 4. Energise NSW Cricket and be a positive force in Australian cricket at a crucial time of change 5. Significantly grow investment in NSW Cricket Department Environment The Cricket Performance Department is responsible for the oversight of the male and female Player Pathway, Umpire Pathway and Cricket Operations. This includes the elite player, coach and umpire pathway, the various metropolitan and country competitions and programs as well as the conducting of all Domestic and International matches. To achieve Cricket NSW s strategic goal of being the number 1 producer of talent in Australian Cricket the Association identifies and develops talented athletes, coaches and umpires and provides high performance structures to enable them to become NSW and Australian representatives in their chosen field of endeavour.
3 3 Key Responsibilities Culture Develop and implement a Blues peak performance culture including self-improvement and learning Assist in the development of a coaching community amongst Blues and Pathway coaches Lead players in contributing to the CNSW 5Es values and standards Create strategies for the development of current and future leaders Embrace a holistic approach to player development Establish a culture and style of play which is supported by key systems and processes that will contribute to consistent high performance and development of the team Coaching Design and implement training programs for the NSW Blues Squad that embraces group and individual sessions, which include technical, tactical, physiological, psychological and social elements Develop match strategies and evaluate individual and team performance Overseeing and leading the NSW Blues coaching and support staff in conjunction with the In conjunction with the Assistant Coaches, Blues Physiotherapist and Blues Strength and Conditioner, implement a player injury management program. In conjunction with the Player Development Manager, ensure that all players are committed to wellbeing and are working towards a career plan Utilise individual player plans (IPP) as a coaching and learning focus; and subsequently provide appropriate actions to facilitate performance improvement of all NSW Blues Squad players Selecting NSW Blues teams for all fixtures, with appropriate consultation of the State Talent Manager and the other NSW Selectors. Evaluating, selecting and valuing the NSW Blues contracted player list, with appropriate consultation of the State Talent Manager, the other NSW Selectors and Scouts and the Relationships Create a collaborative and inclusive high performance environment including playing, coaching, administrative and support staff Develop and manage key stakeholder relationship and partnerships. In conjunction with the Captain, continually demonstrate and communicate expectations of player behaviour that is consistent with the CA Codes of Behaviour and all other relevant cricket codes. In conjunction with the Captain, deal immediately, openly and effectively with inappropriate player behaviour in keeping with the high professional standards set by the team and CNSW. Continually reinforce and develop within the team, recognition of the Spirit of Cricket and the responsibility of players to promote the game and show it in a positive light. Build positive relationships with external stakeholders including Premier Club coaches, sponsors and media. Planning and Administration Establish short and long term strategic goals and objectives for the NSW Blues Squad and each of its members Develop and prepare training schedules, player monitoring plans and player evaluations including extensive use of the Athlete Management System (AMS) Assist in the selection, management, and annual performance reviews of NSW Blues squad support staff i.e. assistant and consultant coaches
4 4 Provide a comprehensive monthly and end of season report to the General Manager, Cricket Performance Ensure strategic, operational and philosophical continuity across elite player pathway Alignment of player and coach development programs throughout the elite pathway Communication and Liaison Maintain regular communication with Department members Identify and manage key internal relationships to support collaborative planning and refinement of strategies to meet the objectives of the Department and CNSW Provide reports to the as required Establish relationships with key relevant external stakeholders (e.g. Cricket Australia, National Cricket Centre) through regular liaison, consultation and negotiation Technical Integrating the Australian Cricket Athlete Management System (AMS) and Sports Science Sports Medicine (SSSM) to the NSW program as appropriate, and consistently with national standards (Australian Cricket Performance Program) Provide direction to the Cricket Performance Computer Analyst in regards to recording, coding, archiving and personalising video data of players and opposition within training and match environments Analyse and research technology currently in use within the greater sporting environment to improve the methods employed and maximise the results achieved by CNSW Representation Representing the NSW Blues internally and externally in a manner consistent with CNSW values and our stakeholders expectations Prepare and present reports for seminars, forums, workshops and conferences as required Represent Cricket NSW on appropriate committees and participate in committees as required Key Behaviours The 5Es : 1. Enjoyment a positive culture based on engagement and enjoyment will create much better long-term results than a negative culture based on fear. The key is that it is in addition to excellence, not an alternative to it. Key Challenges The ability to consistently maintain team performance levels in all competition formats, notwithstanding player roster variations due to injury and international representation The capacity to build a high performing team culture, underpinned by discipline, commitment and responsibility Develop Australian players who are adaptable and can play in all conditions In unison with key internal stakeholders ensure program continuity and philosophical alignment between the underage player pathway and elite senior programs, squads and teams
