3 HIGH PERFORMANCE Make Australia a successful Alpine nation at World Cup, World Championships and Olympic Winter Games SPORT DEVELOPMENT & Dramatically increase participation in Alpine Ski Racing at all levels & maximise community interest in Alpine Ski Racing MAJOR GOAL AREAS BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT Grow the financial resources available to invest in Alpine Ski Racing KEY STRATEGIES TO ACHIEVE GOALS PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT Strengthen network of coaches, volunteers, technical officials and administrators who provide support to Alpine Ski Racing in Australia Employ a full time National Program Director (SSA) Run a comprehensive, integrated athlete pathway with professional 12 month programs at each level, underpinned by strong state programs and outstanding Ski Racing Clubs (APD) Maximise the number of athletes that have access to best practice strength and conditioning resources appropriate to each level of development (APD) Integrate Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere programs into a completely coordinated National plan (APD) Develop MOU with Australian resorts to outline professional, sustainable long term plans and partnerships for elite development programs (SSA) Recruit and develop a pool of qualified Australian coaches who can be seconded to resorts and race clubs in the Australian winter and provide elite coaching services to SSA teams in the northern winter (APD) Secure and organise high quality International Alpine Competitions in Australia (SSA)Secure annual visits of high profile alpine ski racers to interact with the Australian community via world class training opportunities in the Southern Winter (NAC) Work collaboratively with the Interschools Committees and SSA Futures to develop Talent Identification Programs (NAC/ State Associations) Work collaboratively with Ski Resorts to integrate the Athlete pathway with ski school programs via a National Talent ID program (APD/ Race Clubs) Work collaboratively with major resort Race Clubs to ensure a national approach to training and opportunities for recruiting talented athletes (APD) Provide incentives to lower the costs associated with entering ski racing to make the sport more accessible (NAC / State Associations / Race Clubs) Support Australian Ski Racing Clubs with best practice Club Development plans (ASC / NAC) Increase media exposure of Alpine Ski Racing and athletes (NAC/SSA) Leverage World Cup, World Championship and Olympic competition to increase the Australian public, media and corporate interest in Alpine Ski Racing (NAC/ SSA) Develop a competent media and PR capacity within the NAC that operates 12 months of the year (NAC/SSA) Nurture a national pride and belief in our pathway from grass roots to elite level. A vision shared by all stake holders. (NAC) Grow the total dollar turnover of the National Alpine Committee (SSA/NAC) Dramatically increase the dollar value of sponsorship and grant funding (SSA/NAC) Develop fund raising initiatives and events and provide a mechanism for members of the community passionate about the sport to contribute to it (SSA/NAC) Develop best practice management to ensure the long term viability of the National Alpine Programs run by the NAC (SSA/NAC) Undertake a transparent annual budgeting and financial reporting process and make relevant financial reports available to investors and stakeholders (SSA/NAC) Negotiate with stakeholders to secure adequate seed funding to initiate key aspects of the Strategic Roadmap Increase the quality of coaching and officiating via Australian education and accreditation programs (APD /SSA/APSI) Actively recruit & train officials and volunteers (NAC/State Associations/Race Clubs) Provide multiple pathways to engage with Alpine alumni to continue their involvement with the sport (NAC) Provide club administrators with development activities and management tools to enhance the performance of their clubs (SSA/NAC) Support parents of alpine athletes with relevant information and resources (SSA/ NAC) National Alpine Committee Strategic Road Map Page 3
4 HIGH PERFORMANCE KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS TO 2014 SPORT DEVELOPMENT & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT 2 male alpine athletes and 2 female alpine athletes ranked in top 150 in the world by male junior alpine athletes and 4 female junior alpine athletes ranked in the top 200 in the world for their age by male/1 female SX athlete top 16 in world; 2 in top 321 male/1 female SX athlete in top 10 EC circuit; 2 in top 32 60% of registered skiers have technically correct skills at ages 10 years and 12 years 1 male and 1 female athlete finishing in the top 50% of starting field across all major championship events (WJC, WSC, OWG) 60% club FIS-aged athletes have opportunity to participate in NAC Ski Cross intro and/or skills development camps/clinics/ training sessions Registered ski racers to be 500 by 2014 Registered FIS athletes to be 200 by athletes in the SSA feeder competitions by % club coaches have opportunity for access to NAC-run Ski Cross clinics 2 athletes to come from NAC SX TID initiatives in southern winter to club programs Attrition rates to be minimised such that at least 65% of registered racers in 2013 are registered in 2014 Attrition rates between Children and FIS age athletes to be no worse than 50% by 2014 Regular media content and television coverage of National Championship and International competitions by 2014 Be in a position to support 50% of the program cost for National Alpine Ski Team Members with a C-Status or above by 2014 Be in a position to support 10% of the program cost for National Junior Squad Members with an A-Status by 2014 Increase turnover of the NAC by 100% from 2010 financial report 75% of all Club volunteers are accredited officials by 2014 Run Australian Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Coaching Courses by 2014 Increase the number of accredited coaches by 100% in 2014 from 2010 levels Provide all clubs with a Running Alpine resource with templates and tools for all major club activities National Alpine Committee Strategic Road Map Page 4

7 HIGH PERFORMANCE Make Australia a successful Alpine nation at World Cup, World Championships and Olympic Winter Games 2012/2013 ANNUAL PLAN SPORT DEVELOPMENT & Dramatically increase participation in Alpine Ski Racing at all levels & maximise community interest in Alpine Ski Racing BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT Grow the financial resources available to invest in Alpine Ski Racing KEY ANNUAL STRATEGIES TO ACHIEVE GOALS PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT Strengthen network of coaches, volunteers, technical officials and administrators who provide support to Alpine Ski Racing in Australia Conduct quarterly State based physical testing regimes from U14 to Open FIS age prior to the SHW 2012 and prior to the NHW 2012/2013 Continue to publish National Physical Conditioning Programs for U14 to FIS age published every 2-3 months with benchmarks for age groups based on physical testing results Continue to publish generic National Physical Conditioning Programs for U14 FIS age published every 2-3 months Include these benchmarks in selection criteria for NAST, NJS and NCS Run a SHW 2012 National Coordination Camp for NAST and NJS athletes and top coaches from Clubs Run a SHW 2012 National Coordination Camp for NCS athletes and top coaches from Clubs Identify pathway programs for all levels of the Alpine pathway that support SSA program Initiate U12, U14 & U16 Children s SSA races in SHW 2012 Work with SSA office to run Alpine Futures camps in NSW & Vic off the back of State Interschool s during SHW 2012 Work with race clubs to Implement Grand Prix style non SSA events at one Vic and one NSW resort Develop initiatives that drive 2012 U16 athletes into FIS level competition Work with SSA to integrate the SNOW- RACER program into a participation growth program Increase the turnover of Alpine to $750,000 for the 2012/2013 year Work with Alpine Fundraising group to raise $30,000 towards athlete scholarships and equipment Develop an equipment supplier pool for Australian athletes that may provide a revenue stream for Alpine in the future Work with SSA, the OWI and the state institutes of sport to achieve in kind and program support for key Alpine Athletes and their programs Work with NAC and SSA to initiate an on call PR capacity to increase the profile of the sport and the Alpine Athletes (planned) Work with SSA and APSI to run Level 1 Coaching Courses in NSW & VIC in SHW 2012 Develop content for Level 2 Coaching Course for roll out in SHW 2013 Run a minimum of 3 Officials training sessions, two in NSW and one in VIC Develop Level 2 Officials training material for roll out in SHW 2013 Conduct two Program Director coordination meetings and implement biannual phone hook ups with VIC and NSW Alpine Develop a communications strategy for all levels of Alpine Work with SSA to produce the 2012/2013 Australian Alpine Skiing handbook to be available by June 2012 Develop Alpine Competition resources for the web Plan NAST, NJS and NCS programs for NHW 2012/2013 and publish key program information in June 2012 Recruit and run successful NAST, NJS and NCS programs in NHW 2012/2013 in conjunction with pathway program partners Conduct successful WSC and WJC prep camps and campaigns Coordinate an annual TD update and Identify potential FIS TD candidates and succession planning for Australian FIS TD s Re-establish the National TD system for the 2012 Southern Winter National Alpine Committee Strategic Road Map Page 7
