3 Chairman's Report We did not have a great 2012 season as far as results go, however the year has been one of moving forward for Youth Wing Cricket Club and sowing the seeds for the future. As every year we experience problems of availability of players due to exams and other commitments. The bright side of this year is that the young players have taken over the challenge of leadership and responsibility, at least on the field. This coupled with the vast improvement and performance of our junior players is very encouraging for the Club. A number of social events were held throughout the year and a BIG THANKYOU to all those who persevered to ensure that they were successful. These events are equally important for the Club as it attracts social members to ensure its longevity even after playing days. To run a successful and well a managed club, needs finance and we are extremely grateful and thank all the sponsors and in particular Club 2000, in Rayners Lane. It is this support that allows us to engage young people in these activities. The committee has done a lot of work behind the scenes, by giving up their time and to ensure that everything is in place prior and during the season. I would like to mention two members, Jaymesh for holding the club together by making sure that all the necessary administration and league requirements are up to date and Rakesh Patel for taking a leading role in producing the annual brochure. Again, tonight s event would not be successful without the valuable support of committee members and above all friends and family members and again VERY BIG THANKYOU to all volunteers. The outlook for YWCC remains bright and encouraging. We hope the Olympics has inspired you and we are looking at hosting events to encourage people of all ages to get involved in sports and physical activities. I believe that we as a Club can move forward and I am confident if we all pull together, try our best to get more players, we can at least consolidate our present league positions and hopefully go on to have a much better season in Thankyou Jagdish Patel Chairman

5 Sunday Captains Report It was a great privilege to captain YWCC on Sunday. This was my second year leading the team out on Sunday and found that I still have to improve a lot as a leader. But overall I enjoyed my position as the Sunday Captain. It has been a disappointing season this year, as so many games were called off due to bad weather. Our bowling performance was inconsistence during the season and our batting performance only started to improve in the second half of the season. As a team we couldn t get going as so many games were called off, you would play one or two games and then a game or two were called off due to bad weather. Not all was doom and glom this season, there are some positives which shone through this season, like Neil improvement in his batting he got more and more confident as he spent time batting the long innings. It was also good to see the next generation of YWCC making an improvement on the pitch. With Shravan, Shaun and Dylan batting well at the end of the season and I could see their confident growing game by game. Shaun also improved his overall fielding and bowling performance. Shaun I still think your fast bowling is better than your leg break. I d like to thank everyone for their help during the season both on and off the field, especially Hamentbhai for advising me during the game and captaining the team in my absence during the second half of the season. 7 Saturday Captain Report So that s it then. The Broken Wicket s been and gone and with it the season. A season began with so much enthusiasm, hose pipe bans, fines and penalties for wasting water had us all believing we d get the hottest summer ever, only to be dealt the typical British summer and the wettest 3 months in history, and an actual swimming pool at the ground that stayed throughout the season. I d like to thank Youth Wing for giving me this opportunity to captain the team and for the great support from the cricket committee, team members, and everyone else from the whole cricket section as well as friends and family who help make this club what it is, especially as social events. The season for youth wing was quite like a rollercoaster ride with a few important wins against a few good sides amongst some losses and a whole lot of rain. How it seemed, at one stage, like the season might never really get going. And how stodgy the wickets were, the ball never really coming on to the bat, and how slow they remained until the last few games. For a few years now, well for those of you who read the reports, you d have kept hearing the word potential/talent the youngsters have, well this year was the year they showed it, with many achieving their personal best tallies, taking more responsibility, and the comments passed by opposing teams saying watch out for YWCC suggest they see it too. My basic sense is that we were better, that we built on the improvements of last year where several of our standing players made significant strides in their own game and moved more steeply up the ladder. While I can t mention every performance, I did go up to you individually either in person or on the phone so you know who you are so well done and keep it going. There still are a lot of questions to be asked, progress to be made before we get the finished article, heck I am stilling learning but with the individual performances shown by the players, it has been a very good learning curve for them and valuable experience so a successful season with many firsts and champagne moments which we hopefully build on and perform too as a TEAM CONSISTANTLY. I like to say thanks to my second in command Neil, who did a first-rate job in getting things sorted on and off the field, as well as having to deal with me, no easy task with a demanding captain, plus those players who helped out, be it playing with a broken knee (Nimesh) or a little cut to the elbow (Hiten), fighting through the pain barrier plus the continued support of the committee and senior players in guiding the team. It s a slightly odd thing then, the feeling that now the seasons out of the way, we can get back to the serious business of nets. You ve got to love the nets: the ball comes on to the bat, everything is a boundary and you re never out, I can t wait but the diet starts tonight lads, no junk food/alcohol, put those cigarettes away and get on the dance floor to shed those extra pounds. 19 Cricketing Humour Bottle of beer The batsman was having a bad time. He played and missed at every ball and was becoming more hot and flusterred every minute. As the bowler was walking back; the batsman turned to the wicket-keeper. 'Phew,' he said 'what couldn't I do with a bottle of beer.' We have to win On the day of the local match, the captain was talking to one of his men. 'Look, here's a pound,' he said. 'Go out and buy a new ball or something. Anything that'll help us win.' The match began and the captain noticed that the same old ball was being used. He called his man over. 'What did you do with the pound?' he asked. 'Well, you said anything to help us win.' 'Yes.'
