2 The S ou t hw e s t F l or i da F i gur e S k a t i ng C l ub is proud to host 2018 Southwest Florida Fall Classic Figure Skating Competition Dates: September 14 th through September 16 th (Friday through Sunday) Location: Website: Ellenton Ice th Street East Ellenton, FL ELIGIBILITY/RULES: Skaters may enter as many events as they choose and for which they are qualified by their test level at time registration, but not later than August 15th, The competition will be conducted according to the rules of US Figure Skating as set forth in the 2018 Rulebook, including new or amended provisions passed at the 2018 Governing Council, except as modified in this announcement. Juvenile through Senior Free Skates and Juvenile through Senior Short Programs will be judged using the IJS. All other events will be judged using the 6.0 judging format. Eligible competitors shall be current members in good standing of US Figure Skating and shall be eligible to enter events based on their test status (as of August 15 th, 2018) or compete up one level. Skaters may only enter one level per event. Free Skating events are divided into well balanced competitive events and Excel events. Competitors may enter events in one or the other. Please note the qualifications and requirements for each. The Southwest Florida Figure Skating Club (SWFFSC), U.S. Figure Skating and Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex accept no responsibility for injury or damage sustained by any participant in this competition; competitors assume the risk of competing in accordance with U.S. Figure Skating Rule The LOC (Local Organizing Committee) reserves the right to limit the number of competitors in each flight and in each category, to combine or divide groups, and in events where fewer than two (2) competitors apply, to eliminate the category. Skaters will be notified if an event is canceled or if their entry was received after the full number of entries for their requested event has been filled. Entries will be processed in the order they are received. COMPETE USA EVENTS ONLY (FORMERLY BASIC SKILLS): The competition is open to ALL skaters who are current eligible (ER 1.00) members of either the Learn to Skate USA Program and/or are full members of U.S. Figure Skating. To be eligible, skaters must have submitted a membership application or be a member in good standing. Members of other organizations are eligible to compete but must be registered with the host Learn to Skate USA Program/club or any other Learn to Skate USA Program/club. Eligibility will be based on skill level as of closing date of entries. All Snowplow Sam and Basic Skills 1-6 and Pre Free Skate skaters must skate at highest level passed or one level higher and NO official U.S. Figure Skating tests may have been passed including MIF or individual dances. For the Free skate 1-6, Test Track and Well Balanced levels, eligibility will be based only upon highest free skate test level passed (moves in the field test level will not determine skater s competitive level). Skaters may skate at highest level passed OR one level higher BUT not both levels in the same event during the same competition. 3 ENTRIES: Entry to the competition is made by ONLINE registration through Entryeeze. For a link to register, please go to Deadline for entry is Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 11:59pm EST. LATE ENTRY / FEES SWFFSC Competition Committee (LOC) will limit entries at each level and close entries early if spaces for level(s) are filled. Entries will be accepted on a first-come, firstserved basis. Entrants are advised to enter early. Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the LOC. They will require an additional late-entry fee of $50 or $100 depending on tardiness of submission. CHANGE FEES: Changes to entries after deadline may be accepted at the discretion of the LOC and will require $25 change fee per event change request after deadline. To avoid these fees, please register on time and verify the accuracy of events and levels. REFUNDS: There will be NO REFUNDS FOR ANY REASON AFTER August 15th, including medical. Entry fees will only be refunded if a skater s event is eliminated. Checks returned for non-sufficient funds and contested credit card charges will be assessed a $30.00 fee. EVENT FEEs: IJS Events: Juvenile (Freeskate), Intermediate, Novice, Junior, Senior, Adult Gold Freeskate: First IJS event: $120 Each Additional IJS event: $65 IJS Pairs Skaters: $65 per skater for 1 st event. $35 per skater for additional IJS event. NOTE: If a competitor is skating in both Singles and Pairs events, Singles event will be considered the first event. Non-IJS Events (6.0): Introductory Level Free Skate, No Test through Open Juvenile, Juvenile Short, Test Track, all other Adult events (except Adult Gold FS), Showcase, Compulsory, Jumps, Spins and NEW Partnered Moves Challenge. First Non-IJS (6.0) event: $95 Second Non-IJS (6.0) events: $55 Third Non-IJS (6.0) event: $ Pre-Juv. FS Pairs: $100 ($50 per skater) NOTE: If a competitor is skating in both Singles and Pairs events, the Singles event will be considered the first event. Learn To Skate s COMPETE USA Events: (formerly referred to as Basic Skills) First Event: $60 Each additional event: $30 Ø Learn To Skate USA Membership Fee*: $20 *NOTE: This is only for Learn To Skate USA competitors who are not current USFS or Learn To Skate USA Members. Therefore, SWFFSC must register skaters for a Learn To Skate USA Membership with USFS. The $20 fee membership allowing participation in events and small administration fee. RINKS & FACILITY: The Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex has twin ice surfaces each measuring 85 x 200 with rounded corners and hockey barriers. 4 PRACTICE ICE: Practice Ice will be available for purchase on the evening of Tuesday, September 4th 2018 and throughout the remainder of the competition, and will be reserved via Entryeeze. Advanced purchase of practice ice may be made at the time of registration for 1 session per event at $20 per 20-minute session. Additional practice ice may be available for advance purchase after the event schedule is posted at a cost of $25 per 20-minute session, and will be communicated via to all entrants. Selection of pre-paid practice ice sessions will be made through Entryeeze after the event schedule is posted, and will be communicated to entrants will be via . Any remaining practice ice space will be available for purchase at the event at a cost of $25 per 20-minute session. Practice ice fees are non-refundable. Contact the competition chair regarding any practice ice questions. competition@swffsc.org No music will be played during practice ice. A tentative competition scheduled will be found on our website: once it is received from the chief referee, along with the practice ice schedule. EVENT PROGRAMS AND ADVERTISING: Advertising space is available in our Program Book at very reasonable rates. Please consider supporting athletes while promoting your Club, competitions or business. Contact the SWFFSC at competition@swffsc.org for more information. AWARDS: MEDALS will be awarded for 1 st - 4 th place winners in each event. Skaters and may be collected in the registration area anytime following the posting of an event s results. Prize Money: In only the NEW Event Partnered Moves, 1 st place teams will spilt $300 in Gold level, $200 in Silver Level, and $100 in Bronze level to be paid at medal ceremony following event. FINAL ROUNDS: Final rounds will be held for Juvenile and Intermediate Ladies and occur on Sunday morning, September 16th, The top two skaters from each qualifying group in their Freeskate event will automatically qualify for final championship rounds. The remainder of the field will be determined by the highest remaining Freeskate scores for that level regardless of Group. The exact number of skaters in final rounds will be decided after the close of entries by the Chief Referee. IMPORTANT: Practice ice for final round will be allocated at one (1) 20-minute session per competitor. The fee per session will be $25. Competitors will not need to sign up for practice ice for their group, but will need to pay at any time before going on the ice. Practice ice payment can be made any time after final round competitors are announced for each group. If any additional final round practice ice slots are available, they will be allocated based upon availability for appropriate levels of skaters as needed on a first paid basis. No additional final round practice ice will be sold until all final round competitors are allocated their first slot. MUSIC: All music must be submitted on a CD. NO CASSETTE TAPES OR IPOD/MP3S will be accepted. Please note that the music will be played per US Figure Skating qualifying competition standards. Each program must be recorded on a separate CD (1 track per CD). We request and highly encourage all music be turned in at time of registration! Competitors are reminded to have back-up music readily available at the time of their event(s). CDs will be available for pick-up shortly concluding each event. Every reasonable care will be given to submitted CDs, however it is not the responsibility of SWFFSC or the LOC to mail CDs that are not picked up, nor does either party assume responsibility for damaged or lost CDs. 5 PLANNED PROGRAM CONTENT: ALL competitors registering for an IJS event are required to complete the Planned Program Content Form on-line at the Entryeeze registration system by Tuesday, September 4, (Go to your account and click on the Planned Program Content tab.) The LOC will send a reminder communication with instructions after registration closes. Note: Planned Program Content Form submitted with participation required for critique. CRITIQUES: It is SWFFSC s desire to offer complimentary Critiques at the Southwest Florida Fall Classic for IJS events, however there may be circumstances that may not allow critiques to occur. If offered, critiques will be complimentary and open only to skaters and coaches. Location information will be at the registration desk. Note: Planned Program Content Form submitted with participation required for critique. EVENTS AND SCHEDULE: A competition schedule will be found on the SWFFSC website and Entryeeze once it is received from the Chief Referee, along with the practice ice schedule, approximately 2 weeks prior to the competition. Skaters are requested to arrive at least one hour prior to their scheduled event. It is the responsibility of each competitor, parent, and/or coach to frequently check the posted event schedules rinkside for any schedule changes and/or additional information. Final skating order will be posted rink-side no later than each evening prior to the following day s events. Random draw will be used for all IJS events. The SWFFSC will not be responsible for missed events, nor will refunds be extended for such. If competition runs ahead of schedule, the Chief Referee reserves the right to either proceed ahead of schedule or to allow time to lapse and resume according to the published schedule. Please note, the Chief Referee determines the schedule for the competition, not SWFFSC. IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL COACHES: It is very important to the success of the competition that all skaters are placed in the correct categories. This will ensure that the competition is as fair as possible to all competitors. You will receive an from Entryeeze to review and approve your competitors entry levels. Please make sure your contact, phone and information is current and approve these entries to avoid late charges and penalty fees assessed to your skaters. This is especially important with newbies entering Compete USA events. Coaches will need to check in with the Registration Desk upon arrival to be issued a coach s badge. The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) will have a list of registered coaches who have been cleared for a coaching credential. If you are not on the approved list you will need to show proof of compliance. VIDEO / PHOTOGRAPHY: Individual videotaping of your skater only will be permitted from the bleachers only. Professional videotaping and photography of each event will be available for purchase from Gabrielle Photography. Except for the official video producer, only battery-operated cameras will be permitted with NO TRIPODS. NO CORDS. For skater safety, NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY, PLEASE! REGISTRATION DESK: The registration desk will be open Thursday, September 13th, 2018 approximately, 30- minutes prior to the start of practice ice and remain open throughout the competition. Skaters are only required to check in at the registration desk one time. Please be prepared to turn your music in at time of registration. JUDGING: The Southwest Florida Fall Classic will utilize the International Judging Systems (IJS) for Adult Gold Freeskate, Freeskate events Juvenile and above, and for Short Program Events Intermediate and above. The 6.0 judging system will be used for all other events including COMPETE USA, Open Juvenile, Juvenile Short, Excel, and Adult Silver and lower events. 7 SWFFSC LEARN TO COMPETE COMPETITION WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 16 TH 2018 ELIGIBILITY RULES FOR PARTICIPANTS The competition is open to ALL skaters who are current eligible (ER 1.00) members of either Learn to Skate USA and those who are full members of U.S. Figure Skating. Members of other organizations are eligible to compete but must be registered with Learn to Skate USA or a member club. There will be no more than six competitors maximum in an event and all six should receive an award. Eligibility and Test Requirements: Eligibility will be based on skill level as of closing date of entries. All Snowplow Sam and Basic 1-6 skaters must skate at highest level passed or one level higher and NO official U.S. Figure Skating tests may have been passed, including Moves in the Field or individual dances. For the Pre-Free Skate, Free Skate 1-6, Excel, Well Balanced, and Adult levels eligibility will be based only upon highest free skate test level passed. Moves in the Field test level will not determine skater s competitive level. Skaters may skate at highest level passed OR one level higher, but not both levels in the same event during the same competition. Skaters may not compete at more than one level in the same type event at the same competition. It is very important to the success of the competition that skaters are placed in the correct divisions. If, for whatever reason, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) discovers that a skater has been placed in a category that is below his/her class level, the chair and referee will have the option to move the skater into the proper division, even if this has to be done the day of the competition. This will ensure that every event is as fair as possible to the competitors. It is an ethical violation for coaches to sandbag an event. ELIGIBILITY RULES FOR COACHES/INSTRUCTORS When hosting a Compete USA competition, it is important that you verify the compliance of each coach/instructor who plans to coach on-site at the event. You can verify the status of coaches/instructors by checking the lists on by going to the Coaches page and clicking on the Information for Clubs. For Learn to Skate USA instructor verification, log in to the Management System, then Program Admin, Program Management and Instructor Compliance. To be credentialed at a Compete USA event, individuals coaching are required to have: Learn to Skate USA Instructor membership OR U.S. Figure Skating full membership SafeSport training completed (for coaches/instructors 18 years old and older) Background check successfully passed (for coaches/instructors 18 years old and over) Learn to Skate USA Instructor Certification completed OR U.S. Figure Skating compliant coach (for coaches under 18 years old) *SafeSport training is available through for full members of U.S. Figure Skating and through Learn to Skate USA portal for instructors. There is no cost to this training. If a coach/instructor attempts to work at your event without the proper credentials, he or she is in violation of U.S. Figure Skating ethics and code of conduct rules and, as such, is subject to disciplinary action.
