2 The 29 th Annual Fox Cities Invitational will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of U.S. Figure Skating, as set forth in the current rulebook, as well as any pertinent updates which have been posted on the U.S. Figure Skating website. This competition is open to all eligible, restricted, reinstated or readmitted persons as defined by the Eligibility Rules, and is a currently registered member of a U.S. Figure Skating member club, a collegiate club or an individual member in accordance with the current rulebook. Please refer to the current rulebook for non-u.s. Citizens. ELIGIBILITY/TEST LEVEL: Compete USA skaters may compete in any event as qualified by their Compete USA level as of December 4, ALL SNOWPLOW SAM and Compete USA SKATERS THROUGH BASIC 6 must skate at the highest level passed or one level higher and NO official U.S. Figure Skating tests may have been passed including moves in the field or individual dances. Skaters in all other events may compete in any event as qualified by their test level as of December 4, 2018 or at one level higher. A beginner is a person who has passed no US Figure Skating freestyle test. Events will not be required to be skated at the same level. Skaters may enter either the Excel or Well Balanced Free Skate events, but not both. Skaters will be grouped together according to age in each flight or as assigned by the discretion of the referee. In case of too few entries, events may be canceled at the discretion of the Referee, after giving the skater the option of skating one level up or skating an exhibition for critique. The referee, however, must approve all exhibitions. Test level: Competition level is the highest test passed as of the entry deadline, in the discipline the skater is entering. Entrants may skate one level above that for which they qualify, but they may not skate down in any event. Age restrictions/requirements: Singles free skate events (Well Balanced Program) have the following requirements. Juvenile: Girls 12 years of age or younger; Boys 13 years of age or younger Open Juvenile: Girls 13 years of age or older; Boys 14 years of age or older Intermediate must be under the age of 18 Adults must be 21 years of age or older Skaters entering pre-juvenile and lower events will be divided as closely as possible by age, should the number of entries warrant more than one group. ENTRIES: An online entry system with secure credit card payment is being used for our competition. The online registration system, Entryeeze, can be accessed via a link on the club website at Service fees will be applied to the transaction by the hosting online provider. Entries must be registered by midnight December 4, Late entries will be accepted at the discretion of the Referee and will be assessed an additional $30.00 late fee. Beginners through seniors and adult entry fees are $95.00 for the first event and $30.00 for each additional event. Compete USA event entry fees are $55.00 for the first event and $30.00 for each additional event. Duet entry fee is $30.00 per person. Please also include the name and USFSA# of the second skater in the duet on Entryeeze. REFUND POLICY: Entry fees will not be refunded after December 4, 2018 unless no competition exists or the event is canceled. There will be no refunds for medical withdrawals. The online processing fees are not refundable. Checks returned for non-sufficient funds and contested credit card charges will be issued a $30.00 fee. Payment of the fee will be required before the

3 skater is allowed to participate in practice ice or events. Notification of competition and practice ice times will be available on Entryeeze. FACILITIES: The competition will be held at Appleton Family Ice Center, 1717 E. Witzke Boulevard, Appleton, WI The arena has seating for spectators and a concession stand that will be open during the competition. Locker rooms are available at the arena. The ice surface measures 85 x 200. Plenty of free parking is available at the Appleton Family Ice Center. MUSIC: Each skater must furnish his or her own CD labeled with the competitor s name and event. Music will be played from CD only (no CD-Rw s will be permitted). A duplicate of this CD should be available rink side during the event. MUSIC MUST BE TURNED IN AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION. Music may be picked up at the registration desk after the event. Reasonable care will be taken; however, the Valley Figure Skating Club cannot accept responsibility for the CD. Please have separate CDs for practice and competition. LIABILITY: U.S. Figure Skating, VFSC and Appleton Family Ice Center accept no responsibility for injury or damage sustained by any participant in this competition. This is in accordance with Rule 1600 of the official U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook. JUDGING SYSTEM: The 6.0 Majority Judging System will be used for all events at this competition. REGISTRATION: The registration desk will be open at the Appleton Family Ice Center during all practices and events. A schedule of events and any updates will be posted to Entryeeze as soon as they are available from the Referee. It is the responsibility of each competitor to check the posted schedule for official changes to times and events. Competitors must arrive at the arena 1 hour prior to their scheduled event time. Please check in upon arrival. Failure to arrive, check in, and turn in music at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled event may result in disqualification. PRACTICE ICE: Practice ice will be available in 20-minute sessions at a cost of $18.00 per session. Skaters that utilize the online registration will be able to choose their own practice ice sessions after the competition schedule is available. You will receive an automated notification when online practice ice scheduling is available. Registration information and times for practice ice will be posted on Entryeeze two weeks prior to the competition. Additional practice ice, if available, may be purchased at the Registration Desk on the day of the event at a cost of $20.00 per session. This practice ice is for the competition only. Practice ice for the test session may also be available. Check with the Test Chair for more details. PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEOGRAPHY: A professional photographer will take group and individual award pictures immediately after the awards are presented. Parent/skater and coach/skater photographs will be offered. Personal photography will not be allowed in the award presentation area. If you will be videotaping, please be considerate of others in the stands. No flash photography is permitted. Professional videotaping will also be available for the individual competitor s performance. Our photographer this year will be Lifetouch and our videographer will be Champion Video. AWARDS: MEDALS will be given to the top four skaters for each event excluding the Artistic Recall. Awards for the Artistic Recall events will be received by all skaters recalled and then by

4 the top three skaters in each category following the final recall events. All basic skills event skaters will receive an award for participation. OFFICIAL NOTICES: An official schedule will be maintained in the rink lobby. It is the responsibility of each competitor, parent and coach to check frequently for any schedule changes and/or additional information. Skaters are requested to arrive 1 hour prior to the scheduled time of their event. A tentative schedule of events will be posted prior to the competition. IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL COACHES: To be a credentialed coach at a sanctioned nonqualifying competition, coaches must meet the following requirements: Coaching U.S. Figure Skating athletes: Current member in good standing with U.S. Figure Skating Completed background check (green light status) Completed SafeSport Training* Continuing Education Requirements (CERs) for the Competition Season Proof of current general liability insurance with limits of $1 million per occurrence/$5 million aggregate. Coaching Compete USA athletes: Learn to Skate USA Instructor membership OR U.S. Figure Skating full membership Completed SafeSport Training* (for coaches 18 years old and over) Completed background check (green light status) (for coaches 18 years old and over) Learn to Skate USA Instructor Certification completed (for coaches under 18 years old) *SafeSport training is available through for full members of U.S. Figure Skating (through Learn to Skate USA portal for instructors). There is no cost to this training and certification is valid for 2 seasons The LOC will have a list of compliant coaches who are approved to receive a credential at the competition. Coaches will need to check in at the event registration desk and show a government issued photo I.D. to receive a credential. If a coach cannot provide a photo I.D. and is not on the list or cannot produce the necessary documents, he or she will not be allowed a credential. There can be no exceptions to this policy. If a foreign coach has only foreign athletes at your competition, a background check and SafeSport Training is not required. Instead, the coach must submit a letter from their Federation stating they are a member in good standing. 5 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The USFSA Chief Referee will set the schedule for the Competition following the closing date for receipt of entries. The schedule will then be posted on the Entryeeze 29 th Annual Fox Cities Invitational competition webpage. WITHDRAWALS AND SCRATCHES: To withdraw before the competition, please call Lynn Hunter (920) or If you must scratch one or more events after checking in, please notify the Registration Desk at the rink. Back by Popular Demand ARTISTIC RECALL Solos: This is an opportunity for skaters competing in artistic events to be recalled and re-skate their artistic program. There will be two separate recall events in the competition; dramatic artistic recall and light entertainment artistic recall solos. There will be NO recalls for duets. Selection of recalled skaters is independent of award placement by US Figure Skating judges. Placement will be based on creativity, originality, and audience appeal evaluated by a panel of judges from the community. A skater may be recalled in more than one category, but must choose which recall event to participate in. Please note that recalls are not posted as quickly as regular results, but will be posted as soon as possible please be patient. Artistic Recall is a Fox Cities Invitational Event. SKATER CRITIQUES: Coaches or skaters can request and purchase skater critiques online through the Entryeeze registration website. Skater critiques are available for levels Juvenile and above. The cost of each Critique is $10.00 payable online through Entryeeze or at the Registration desk. In order to request a critique at the competition site, the skater/coach must fill out a Critique Request Form and submit it at least one hour before their event. Critique Request Forms can be found at the Registration Desk and should be turned in to the Registration Desk when they are complete. Critiques will be subject to the discretion of the referee and availability of officials. Hotels: A list of hotels can be found on the home page of Entryeeze. Mention the Fox Cities Invitational/Valley Figure Skating Club when making reservations to receive the discounted rate. BUSINESS AND PERSONAL ADS: If you are interested in placing an ad for your skater or business in the competition program, please follow instructions on Entryeeze. TEST SESSION: A test session will be held on Friday, January 4, Test forms and additional information will be available on the Valley Figure Skating Club website.

8 COMPULSORY MOVES SINGLES Snowplow Sam Free Skate 6 Program Excel Compulsory (Excel Beginner Excel Preliminary) Compulsory Moves (No Test Senior) SPECIALITY EVENTS - SINGLES Jumps Challenge Spin Challenge ADULT EVENTS Adult Introductory Free Skate Beginner and High Beginner Adult 1-6 and Introductory Compulsory Adult Singles Free Skate Showcase EVENT: Showcase Events - ARTISTIC Single or Duet Skaters may register for artistic programs as a solo, as a duet, or they may do both. Solo skaters and duet pair skaters may choose to skate a dramatic or a light entertainment program or they may skate a program of each. Dramatic: Programs should express intense emotional connection and investment in the music, choreography and theme concept through related skating movements, gestures and physical actions. Handheld props are permitted. Light Entertainment: Programs should express a carefree concept or storyline designed to uplift and entertain the audience through related skating movements, gestures and physical actions. Handheld props are permitted. Duets are theatrical performances by any two competitors. Handheld props are permitted. Performances will be judged from an entertainment standpoint, for theatrical and artistic qualities. Technical skating skills and difficulty will not be rewarded as such; however, skating must be the major element of the performance and be of sufficient quality to support the selected theatrical elements. Jump difficulty is not rewarded in showcase; therefore jumps, if choreographed, should be performed with style, flow and confidence. Theatrical elements evaluated will include are but not limited to: Reflection of the musicality as it pertains to the concept of the program Projection Energy Timing Acting

9 Skating skills that relate to the music Interaction (Duets only) Note: Prolonged pauses to express lyrics are discouraged Groupings are based on the skater s freestyle test level and may be divided by age or draw, but NOT by gender. Groups may be combined where there are insufficient entries at a particular level. Remember: All Skaters competing in Artistic events solos - may qualify for the Artistic Recall events in the Entertainment and Dramatic categories and a chance to re- skate their program. There will be NO recalls for duets. This is a special event of the Fox Cities Invitational. Duet groups will be formed according to the number of participating skaters (there may be a need to place a range of levels in one group).
