1 Accession No.: PROCESSING RECORD SCRIPPS INSTITUTION OF OCEANOGRAPHY ARCHIVES Hessler, Robert Raymond Robert Raymond Hessler Papers, BULK DATES: PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 10 mss, 1 1/2 mss DESCRIPTION: The accession is the first accession of the Robert Raymond Hessler Papers. The accession consists of correspondence, photographs, proposals and subject files. The correspondence consists largely of letters exchanged by Hessler and his wife, Anita Young Hessler both before and after their marriage in Many of Hessler's letters to his wife were written when he was at sea and describe his oceanographic research. The accession also includes letters exchanged by Hessler and his college friends, notably Frank E. Rutkowski and Andy G. Oldenquist and Minda Rae Sensibar. The accession includes subject files and proposals which describe Hessler's work and research interests. A folder entitled "Travel La Jolla Expedition, 1968" describes Hessler s recruitment and appointment at SIO.
