2 1. Ogilvie, William, Surveyor and civil servant. Winnipeg, Manitoba. Land Original Papers, inches. Correspondence and papers of William Ogilvie ( ), land surveyor and civil servant. Between 1875 and 1898 Ogilvie conducted a number of surveys and explorations in the Northwest Territories, notably in the Peace River and the Mackenzie River districts and along the Alaska boundary, and from 1898 to 1901 he was Commissioner of the Yukon Territory. Presented in 1930, 1946 and The papers include correspondence, diaries and survey notebooks, memoranda and manuscripts. They deal with Ogilvie's surveys in the Northwest, Blackfoot and Sioux Indians, mining, conditions in Alaska and Yukon, and the Klondike gold rush.

(26 Feb Lewes River N.W.T.) gateman encloses a record of thermometer readings at Ponsonby Concession 10 miles above gig Salmon, Lews River. (4 pages) (15 Sept Davison, Yukon) geaudette discusses the Hydroelectric potential of the Frazer Falls on the Stewart River. (2 pages) Boumas, Bishop W. C. ( 3 Dec Porcupine 1.ver) In a letter to Lt..Cov. Schultz of Manitoba he discusses the mines in the Yukon, American trade along the Arctic Coast and the activities of an American survey party under CaPtain Turner. (Copy of letter filed with Schultz correspondence) (4 pages) Christie, Charles O. (12 June Fort Nelson) Christie comments on Ogilvie's trip to Fort Nelson in 1891 and his own activities. (2 pages) Davidson, George (15 November San Francisco) He mentions the Muir Glacier and his early astronomical work. Erskine, W. J. Gunn, Peter (8 June 1927, San Francisco, Calif.) Erskine encloses a typescript copy of an Ogilvie letter, dated 22 May 1897, in which Ogilvie transmits to Mr. James 'ailson of the Alaska Commercial Co. information concerning the gold strike in the Yukon. Macaulay gives an account of his travels since leaving the North. (4 pages) (29 January 1889, Edmonton) McDougal mentions his ascent of the Peel River in 1872 and his sighting of coal deposits. (2 pages) Minto, Lord Minto, Mary (4 September Victoria, B.C.) Minto thanks Ogilvie for his kindness during the recent Vice-Regal visit to Dawson. (4 pages) (26 December 1900, Ottawa) Minto acknowledges receipt of a copy of the Yukon Sun. (3 pages) (7 August 1900, Ottawa, Ont.) She thanks Ogilvie and the Yukon miners for their gift of a collection of nuggets and' comments on her visit to the Klondike. (4 pages) Ogilvie, William (12 May Dawson, Yukon) Letter in code to Sir Wilfrid Laurier (2 pages) (14 January Dawson, Yukon) In a letter to the editor of the Dawson Daily News, Ogilvie outlines the great benefits to the world of the invention of the steam locomotive and the building of railroads.
