The Rebels started the season with victories over Captain Shreve, Tioga and Marksville during the first three weeks of the season. However, they lost their homecoming game against Leesville, in Week 4, and then were shut out by St. Louis, 36-0 last week. The Rebels have been held scoreless during three of their last four halves, falling behind Leesville 27-0 at the half and then not getting on the scoreboard at all against St. Louis. The Saints shut down the Rebels vaunted running game, which was averaging nearly 290 yards per game through four weeks. But St. Louis frustrated the Rebels offense, limiting them to just 114 rushing yards and six first downs. The Rebels will look to rediscover their running attack against an Alexandria Senior High team that is much improved over last year. Trojans off to best start in six years Alexandria Senior High is off to a 4-1 start for the first time since 2009 and already has won more games this year than the past two seasons combined. The Trojans won two games two years ago, and then went just 1-9 last season in coach Sam Goodwin s first year at the school. During the offseason, Goodwin brought in former Bastrop head coach Thomas Bachman as offensive coordinator and the change has paid immediate dividends. The Trojans, led by senior quarterback Matthew Beck, have averaged 51 points per game and scored at least 35 points in every game. After scoring a season-high 76 points in a Week 2 victory over Bolton, the Trojans dropped their only game so far this season, a defeat at Leesville. But the Trojans bounced right back to bounce parish rival Tioga, 51-7, and then knocked off one of the top teams in Class 2A, Ouachita Christian, last week.

2 Week 6 Pineville Rebels vs. ASH Trojans Friday, Oct. 9 7 p.m. Rebels rushers, pass rush dominated ASH in 2014 Jarious Green and Landon King piled up rushing yards, while Hunter Bonial and Brian Jackson combined for nine sacks as the Pineville Rebels defeated ASH, 28-6, in Trojan Stadium last season. Green rushed for a game-high 143 yards and scored two touchdowns in the third quarter as the Rebels opened a 21-0 lead on their rivals. King added 119 yards and a touchdown, while Clayton Wider Jr. added a fourth-quarter TD as the Rebels rushed for 374 yards and an average of 7.6 yards per carry in the game. Bonial sacked ASH quarterback Matthew Beck six times, while Jackson added three sacks as the Rebels sacked Beck 10 times and limited ASH to minus-69 rushing yards in the game. Beck, meanwhile, passed for 288 yards and a touchdown in the game. The win avenged a home overtime loss by the Rebels (30-24) in The Trojans have won three of the past five games in the series. Rebels look to continue piling up the rushing yards ROBBIE MARTIN Head coach, 7th season Northwestern State, overall at Pineville Robbie Martin is a name synonymous with Pineville football. He s been around the game and the team for the better part of three decades. A former player and defensive coordinator before becoming head coach, Martin bleeds cardinal and white. The Rebels were held without a 100-yard rusher last week for just the second time on the season. Captain Shreve held the Rebels without a 100-yard rusher in the season opener, but three Pineville players rushed for at least 50 yards during that victory. Last week, however, only junior fullback Landon King cracked the 50-yard mark. King ran the ball 18 times for 67 yards and was kept out of the end zone for the first time in four weeks, and no other Rebel rushed for more than 25 yards. Senior quarterback Clayton Wider Jr. was limited to a season-low 18 yards on 13 carries, and the Rebels managed just 114 rushing yards their lowest mark of the season. Even with the Week 4 struggles, the Rebels are averaging rushing yards per game. King, Pineville s 6-foot-1, 215-pound junior fullback, leads the Rebels with 487 rushing yards (97.4 yards per game) and six touchdowns. Wider has rushed for 434 yards (86.8 ypg) and three touchdowns, and senior running back/returner Jarious Green is second on the team with 492 all-purpose yards (98.4 ypg). Beck, a two-sport star who has committed to play baseball at LSU, is a threeyear starter for the Trojans who also played some as a freshman. While he put up some impressive numbers over the past few years, what held him back was his high interception numbers. Under Bachman, however, that has changed. So far this season, Beck has thrown just one interception while logging 18 touchdowns and throwing for 1,157 yards. He s completed 65 percent of his passes (91 for 141) and has spread the ball around to a number of weapons. Four receivers have made double-digit receptions and scored multiple touchdowns. Junior slot receiver Suede Taylor leads the Trojans with 31 receptions for 419 yards with three TDs. Sophomores Tyler Clark (20-149, 5 TDs) and Jorien Vallien (18-281, 3 TDs) have been big-play weapons for the Trojans, while senior Andrew Bell has 12 catches for 55 yards and three touchdowns. While Beck is averaging 231 passing yards per game, the Trojans also have shown an ability to run the football out of their spread formation. Seniors Kyle Smith (58-374, 4 TDs) and X stavious Dorty (28-222, 5 TDs) have combined to rush for almost 120 yards per game and have scored nearly two TDs per contest. ASH-Pineville series features tight games in recent seasons Last year s 28-6 victory for the Pineville Rebels was the biggest margin of defeat over the past five years. The 2013 contest went into overtime, with the Trojans winning that one for one of just their two wins on the season. The three previous meetings were all decided by four points or less the Rebels won in 2012 with the Trojans winning in 2011 and in The last big win for ASH was in Defensive coordinator John Muder returns home to Pineville John Muder is back home in the cardinal and white. The 1999 graduate of Pineville High School has returned to his alma mater as the Rebels defensive coordinator after spending the past five seasons as an assistant at Breaux Bridge. A standout linebacker who played for Herbie Smith, Muder became one of the best linebackers to ever suit up for Louisiana College during his standout four-year career with the Wildcats. A two-time all-conference player at LC, Muder finished his career with 181 career tackles. His total of 100 tackles as a senior in 2003 still ranks fourth in school history. Muder previously was defensive coordinator at Breaux Bridge, helping the Tigers to five consecutive Class 4A playoff appearances. The Tigers advanced to the semifinals in 2011, and were knocked out of the playoffs by state power Neville in three of the five years. Muder brings the 50 defense to D.C. Bill Bates Stadium Muder hopes bringing some of the concepts and schemes he learned during his five years in Breaux Bridge can help rejuvenate the Rebels defense as they compete in one of the state s toughest districts. The 50 defense features a five-man front, two linebackers and four players in the secondary. The interior of the defensive front features two defensive tackles and a nose guard, flanked by two defensive ends that are essentially hybrid outside linebackers who line up on the line of scrimmage. The middle of the defense features two linebackers and two safeties, with a cornerback on either side. Muder s new defense features a number of young players looking to make an immediate impact, as only seven seniors began the season on the Rebels two-deep depth chart.

4 Rebels running game just fine without Cody Ford Week 6 Pineville Rebels vs. ASH Trojans Friday, Oct. 9 7 p.m. The Pineville Rebels ran for nearly 1,800 yards in 2014, mostly behind dominating left tackle Cody Ford. The 6-foot-3, 325-pound Ford signed with the University of Oklahoma and a revamped Rebels offensive line is much smaller this season with left guard Jacob Parson (5-10, 270) the only starter weighing more than 215 pounds. Despite the lack of prototypical size, however, the Rebels run game hasn t missed a beat in Through five games, Pineville is averaging more than 250 rushing yards per game a pace that would eclipse last season s rushing totals by more than 700 yards. Junior fullback Landon King and senior quarterback Clayton Wider Jr. both are averaging nearly 100 yards per game, while senior running back Jarious Green also is a dangerous threat with more than 200 rushing yards and five total touchdowns in the run and return games. King, who leads the team with 487 rushing yards and six touchdowns, surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for his career earlier in the season, joining Green in that milestone area. The trio of backs are each vying to become the first 1,000-yard rusher in a season for the Rebels since Derrick Milton surpassed that mark in Ball mayor Cavanaugh loses jersey wager with Pineville mayor Fields There was a little something extra besides community pride on the line when Tioga and Pineville hooked up in Week 2. The communities mayors hosted a friendly wager on the outcome, with the losing team s mayor having to wear the opponent s jersey to work the following Monday. Because of the Rebels victory over Tioga, Ball Mayor Neil Cavanaugh wore a Pineville Rebel jersey to Ball Town Hall the Monday after the game, as Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields escaped having to prance around Pineville City Hall in an Indians jersey. Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields (left) and Ball Mayor Neil Cavanaugh (right) pose with each other in their opponent s jersey prior to the Week 2 game. 9 Week 1: Pineville 17, Captain Shreve 0 Pineville 17 September 4, 2015 Bates Stadium Captain Shreve 0 Strong defensive showing leads Rebels to shutout victory in season opener Jarious Green rushed for two touchdowns, and the Pineville Rebels defense of new coordinator John Muder pitched a shutout in a 17-0 win over Captain Shreve last week at D.C. Bill Bates Stadium. Muder s defense set the tone early with a safety on Captain Shreve s first possession, and the Gators never got going offensively. Julian Charles returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for an apparent touchdown for the Gators, but a holding penalty negated the long return. Captain Shreve never really threatened again. Pineville s defense pushed the Gators back 11 yards over the next three plays, and sophomore linebacker Jordan Brown tackled Camron Davis in the end zone to give the Rebels (1-0) the early lead. Green, the Rebels senior running back, scored from 3 yards out on the final offensive play of the first quarter to give Pineville a 9-0 lead, and Green broke free for a 17-yard touchdown with 4:55 to play in the first half to put the Rebels ahead Pineville slogged its way through the rest of the game offensively, but the Rebels defense was more than up to the challenge. Captain Shreve managed just 57 yards of offense on 57 plays in the game, and Damarcus McCall gained all of them on a run late in the first half, breaking free of two Rebel defenders and sprinting deep into Pineville territory. We had it for no gain, and a couple of people knocked each other out of the play, Pineville coach Robbie Martin said. That scoring threat came up empty for the Gators when junior safety Matthew Sylvia stepped in front of a Luke Leggio pass near the goal line to make an interception. Outside of McCall s long run, Captain Shreve netted zero yards on its 56 remaining plays. The defense got that egg, said senior defensive end Esdon Boyd, who made two sacks and five tackles for loss Friday night. That s all we care about. We worked our butt off. We were fantastic defensively all game, Martin said. Pineville s power running attack was grounded for most of the game by Captain Shreve s anticipatory defense. The Gators jumped the snap count, sending linebackers and knocking off the timing of the Rebels flexbone offense. Gator linebacker Ashton Lacaze was particularly outstanding, finishing the game with 14 tackles, a sack and three tackles for loss. Pineville finished the game with 248 yards of offense, including 181 yards rushing on 50 carries. Green led the Rebels with 55 yards on 11 carries, while senior quarterback Clayton Wider had 52 yards on 19 carries and junior fullback Landon King finished with 50 yards on 14 rushes. Wider also passed for 67 yards. The Rebels fumbled the football seven times, with six of them being recovered by Captain Shreve. We need to step up our game, senior right guard Dakota Cross said. Complete more passes, run the ball better (and) definitely hold it better. We have to work on the little things. If you do enough little things wrong, it becomes a big problem. Though his team s offense struggled, Martin said he was pleased the Rebels began the season with a one in the win column rather than a loss like last season. Any win against a 5A opponent is satisfying, Martin said. I thought the second half was one of the ugliest games I ve ever seen. Both defenses dominated the offenses. 10 Week 2: Pineville 36, Tioga 12 Pineville 36 September 11, 2015 The Reservation Tioga 12 Rebels rush for 400-plus yards, run away with Red River Rivalry victory TIOGA Landon King, Clayton Wider and Jarious Green each rushed for at least 100 yards Friday night as the Pineville Rebels racked up more than 400 rushing yards in a win over Tioga. King, Pineville s junior fullback, rushed for 183 yards on 18 carries, including a back-breaking 72-yard touchdown in the final minute of the first half to give the Rebels a 21-3 lead after the first two quarters. King also scored a 5-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that put the game out of reach after Tioga had cut the Rebels lead to Landon is a big, strong, physical kid, Pineville coach Robbie Martin said. He didn t have many carries in the first half, so he was really fresh. King ran nine times for 85 yards over a two-drive span in the fourth quarter leading up to his second touchdown. Martin said the Rebels were running option to the weak side of the field to take advantage of the way the Indians were playing on defense, and Wider continued to hand the ball to King up the middle. I just tried to keep executing my plays and not let my team down, King said. But it wasn t just King who damaged the Indians defense Friday night. Martin has been at Pineville for more than two decades, and he said he can t remember the Rebels ever having three backs eclipse 100 yards in the same game during that time frame. Wider, the Rebels senior quarterback, kept the ball 16 times for 111 yards and a touchdown, while senior running back Green finished with 12 carries for an even 100 yards and two scores. It s nice to know you can rely on your teammates day in and day out, King said. The Rebels defense turned in a second straight standout performance, giving up just one touchdown. Tioga got inside the Rebels 30-yard line four times in the first half and came away with just a field goal. Pineville s defense gave up 214 yards of offense in the game, with 89 of those coming on a pass from Dubois to senior Hayden Weltz that set up the Indians only touchdown a 1-yard run by senior fullback Tremaine Spears. We had one little blown play, said senior middle linebacker Jacob Joffrion, who led the Rebels with 12 tackles, one shy of his career high. I thought our defense was fantastic in the first half, Martin said. Our special teams put them in a hole at least three times, and we gave up just a field goal. We gave up one big play. (Weltz) is a very good football player for them. He broke a tackle on the hitch and ran down the sideline. Dubois threw for 166 yards in the game but completed just 10 of 33 passes. Weltz had four receptions for 132 yards, one week after having 200 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The Tigers (1-2) rallied from a 21-6 deficit to take a lead with just over five minutes to play on a trick play when running back Romeo Williams found Skylar Jackson for a 17-yard touchdown. But the Rebels responded with a long drive that was capped by King s 13-yard score, his second of the game. King finished the game with 74 yards on 14 carries. King, who has four touchdowns on the season, called his gamewinner a surreal moment. We were all excited, King said. We got the momentum back. They took the lead and our offense showed some character to get the ball with five minutes and drive the ball for a touchdown, Pineville coach Robbie Martin said. But the Tigers had no quit in them as junior quarterback Qa Mingo, who gave the Rebel defense fits all night, marched Marksville down inside the Pineville 10-yard line. On the game s final play, Mingo scrambled around and around, eluding Rebel rushers, before finally throwing incomplete as Marksville came up just shy of the upset. Mingo passed for 195 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for 132 yards and two scores. Mingo is a terrific player, Martin said. That guy, he s a competitor. He s a great athlete. He wore out a complete defense in the second half. The Rebels ran out to a 21-6 lead and appeared poised to take complete control in the first half. King s 6-yard touchdown midway through the second quarter put the Rebels ahead 21-6, and Pineville s defense quickly forced a punt. However, the Tigers punt hit a Pineville player and Marksville recovered to set up a 25-yard touchdown pass from Mingo to Jeremy Gillam. I felt like we had a chance to put them in a big bind at halftime, Martin said. A 55-yard Mingo run in the third quarter tied the game at 21 before Pineville s Gavin Capehart hit a 39-yard field goal to take a threepoint lead. The Rebels looked like they would take a 10-point lead as Wider ran into the end zone with just under eight minutes to play. But Wider lost the ball on what Martin called a very questionable fumble and the Tigers recovered in the end zone to set up their go-ahead score on Williams touchdown pass. Marksville coach J.T. Dunbar, whose team has dropped two straight tough contests, said he wished the Tigers could have pulled off the victory, but he was pleased with the way his team played. It was a hard-fought game on both sides, Dunbar said. I thought our kids came out in the second half and busted their tails to get back in the game. Martin and King both had praise for the Tigers performance Friday night. We had a fight on our hands, Martin said. They re a great team, King said. They ve got a lot of athletes and weren t just going to give this game to us. They ve got a lot of heart. 12 Leesville 41 September 25, 2015 Bates Stadium Pineville 20 The Pineville Rebels had no answer for Cory McCoy Friday night. McCoy rushed for four first-half touchdowns and nearly surpassed the 200-yard barrier for the fourth consecutive game as Leesville (3-1) ran away with a win to spoil the Rebels homecoming. McCoy finished the night with 195 yards on 19 carries before sitting most of the fourth quarter, and the Wampus Cats put up 457 yards of total offense. McCoy scored on runs of 15, 50, 18 and 44 yards as Leesville built a 27-0 halftime lead. That s every week, Leesville coach Tommy Moore said of McCoy s performance. It seems like he just gets better every week, and it seems like he gets better as the game goes on. No. 20 was as good as advertised, Pineville coach Robbie Martin said. Martin called Friday s performance by the Wampus Cats a thorough domination as Pineville (3-1) gave up a season high in yards while managing just 65 yards in the first half. The Rebels didn t lie down in the second half, as they scored on their first possession after halftime and managed two fourth-quarter touchdowns before finishing with 274 yards of total offense. Quarterback Clayton Wider Jr. and fullback Landon King combined for 227 rushing yards. Wider finished with 114 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, while King added 113 yards and two scores on 19 carries. We scored on three of our four possessions, and the defense finally got some stops. We just dug such a deep hole in the first half that we couldn t come out of. After McCoy s four first-half TDs, the Rebels took their first possession of the second half 68 yards for their first score, with King scoring from 1-yard out. But the Rebels defense was unable to build upon the momentum as Leesville scored on its next two possessions. Quarterback Caden Wheeler, who entered the game with only six completions on the season, had easily his best game of the year, completing 10 of 14 passes for 146 yards and a 34-yard TD pass to Theron Westerchil. We put in some stuff this week to get some easy throws to get him going, Moore said, adding the plan was for Wheeler to target tight end E.J. Ane and McCoy out of the backfield. Daquan Davis, who ran for 88 yards in the game, put the Wampus Cats ahead 41-7 with a 47-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the third quarter. Martin said the Rebels were outcoached and outplayed all over the field by the Wampus Cats Friday night. Obviously, I didn t do a good enough job of getting these guys ready to play, Martin said. 13 Week 5: St. Louis 36, Pineville 0 St. Louis 36 October 2, 2015 Bates Stadium Pineville 0 Rebels shut out, held to season low in rushing yards by St. Louis Pineville s potent ground attack was ground to a halt Friday night. St. Louis limited the Rebels (3-2) to just 114 rushing yards and kept them out of the end zone in a 36-0 win at D.C. Bill Bates Stadium. It was the second consecutive loss for the Rebels. quarter, and St. Louis took a 20-point lead when Hardy found Tyler Washington on a second-quarter, 4-yard touchdown pass. Prior to the Saints third score, St. Louis took possession on the Rebels 12-yard line after a Pineville fumble. The Saints (2-3) needed just 265 yards of total offense, but they took advantage of continual positive field position and caught Pineville on several big plays. Bailey Hardy, a sophomore making his first start at quarterback, connected with a wide open Patrick Lavergne for a 29-yard touchdown midway through the first half to put St. Louis on the scoreboard, after the Saints defense had stopped the Rebels a yard short on fourth down. It was the first of three touchdown passes for Hardy. Pineville coach Robbie Martin made the call to go for it on fourth and 1 from the Rebels 29, but St. Louis stuffed Landon King up the middle. That was a bad call on my part, Martin said. After the turnover on downs, Martin said there was some confusion over whether or not the Rebels picked up the first down, and Pineville s defense was late getting on the field. Lavergne found himself uncovered on his way to the end zone. Colby Rodriguez, who rushed for a game-high 96 yards, took a draw 55 yards for a touchdown to put the Saints up 14-0 in the first The second half didn t get any better, as Pineville quarterback Clayton Wider Jr. was sacked for a safety and Rodriguez added two more touchdowns a 10-yard pass from Hardy and an 11-yard run. Rodriguez finished the game with 110 combined yards rushing and receiving and scored three TDs. Hardy finished 10-of-17 passing for 149 yards in his first start. Pineville came into the game averaging nearly 290 rushing yards per game, but the Rebels couldn t move the ball much against the Saints. They averaged just 2.7 yards per carry and converted only 2 of 12 third-down attempts. King led the Rebels with 67 rushing yards on 18 carries, while Wider was held to a season-low 18 yards on 13 carries. The Rebels begin District 2-5A play next week against rival Alexandria Senior High, and Martin said his team and its coaching staff must dig deep to reverse the trends that have shown up over the past two weeks. We have to do some soul-searching and find out where to go from here, Martin said.
