In front of a standing room only crowd on little league night the #1 ranked Legends responded with the next 54 points en route to a victory. Senior RB Brandon Wingard rushed for three of the teams six rushing TD s. Playing in his first varsity game Shawn Davis returned a kickoff 92 yards for a TD. Sophomore QB Jason Mansell completed 11/14 passes for 176 yards and one TD. Conor Mahony and Matt Marshner had 9 tackles each and combined for 5 TFL s and sophomore Alex Hejna recorded five tackles in his first varsity game. The rest of the game was played relatively evenly. The Legends set themselves up for a big week #3 showdown with the preseason favorite Williamsville North Spartans. 4 WEEK 3 SUMMARY Lancaster 34 - Williamsville North 26 Lancaster Williamsville North Williamsville North entered the game looking to prove the preseason predictions correct and take over as the top team in AA football in WNY. North jumped out to an early 6-0 lead but the Legends came right back to take a half time lead. North scored twice in the 3rd quarter to take a lead but Jason Mansell broke a 30 yard scramble on third and long to set up a 1 yard TD run by Gianluca Fulciniti to put the Legends up for good. Lancaster overcame many players having the flu this week and Shawn Davis missed the game due to a high fever. David Gaca was taken to the hospital by ambulance post game due to severe dehydration but bounced back and was able to play week # 4 vs Clarence. 5 WEEK 4 SUMMARY Clarence 22 - Lancaster 31 Clarence Lancaster Lancaster dominated the first two quarters but went to halftime only up After scoring the jumping ahead 31-8 late in the 3rd quarter, Lancaster had to hold on for a nine point victory. Clarence scored 14 points in the fourth quarter and almost recovered an onside kick to make fans at Foyle Kling Field a bit uneasy. 6 WEEK 5 SUMMARY Lancaster 35 - Bennett 42 Lancaster Bennett Lancaster came out firing jumping out to a early 7-0 lead on a 62 yard pass from Jason Mansell to Brian Martin. After back a forth first half, Lancaster was stopped on Bennett s one yard line on the last play of the first half which made the half time score Lancaster. Bennett s D Jae Perry ran wild in the 2nd half scoring 3 TD s, finishing the day with 246 yards on the ground. Lancaster s defense was humbled and had no answers for Bennett s offensive attack this day. Niagara Falls finished the day with 18 yards of total offense including only one pass completion. Lancaster s starting offense took less than three quarters to build a 43-6 lead. 10 SECTION VI AA Semi-Final PLAYOFF Game Williamsville North 20 - Lancaster 21 Williamsville North Lancaster In a rematch of the week #3 game vs North, Lancaster beat the senior laden Williamsville North Spartans for the right to play at New Era Field for the AA Championship. The Legends came out quickly with a 17 yard TD pass from Jason Mansell to Shawn Davis less than two minutes into the game. After going up 14-0 on a one yard run by Gianluca Fulciniti, Will North scored 21 points to take the lead The Legends Response those Events helped determine the Outcome they wanted. Shawn Davis caught a critical 3rd and 11 pass from Jason Mansell to keep the game winning drive alive and the Blackshirt Defense stopped the Spartans to end the game. 12 NYSPHSAA FAR Western Regional Clarence HS Aquinas 39 - Lancaster 7 Lancaster Aquinas Institute The Aquinas Institute jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead and never looked back in the rematch of the 2017 Far Western Regional Championship. The 2018 the Aquinas offense proved to be too much for the Legends over the course of the game. As a private school that recruits all of Section V, Aquinas showed it is tough for public schools to compete with a different set of rules. Aquinas went on to beat Cicero North Syracuse and New Rochelle to win the 2018 Public School Championship at the Carrier Dome.
