2 Senior Football League Kelleher Shield Valley Rovers Senior Footballers secured their first two points in their first senior league game in Brinny on Sunday afternoon against Ilen Rovers. A low scoring first half saw both side level at half-time 0-3 a piece. The Rovers kicked 2 points from play one each from Darragh Looney and Gary Farrell with John Cottrell opening the Rovers account from a free in the sixth minute. In the second half the Rovers were behind up to the 55th minute until a great solo effort from Tomas O Brien put the home team in front 0-8 to 0-7. A pointed free from John and 3 points from Fiachra including one free, kept the Rovers in touch up to then. Fiachra put 2 points between the sides with time up with visitors reducing that margin with the last kick of the game. Valley Rovers 0-9 Ilen Rovers 0-8. Premier 2 U16 Football League Result Valley Rovers 2-07 to Carbery Rangers 5 16 U10 Training Starts The U10s commenced training in Innishannon School Hall on Wednesday night last. During the session Fiachra Lynch dropped by to give the lads a welcome boost and to remind them of the importance of practicing at home and listening to their mentors. We had a good enjoyable session, for our first night out, and Fiachra ended the session with a few competitive drills. For the next 6 weeks we will train on Friday nights, between 6:30 to 7:30pm, in Cloghduv. We are very grateful to Fiachra for giving his time to our U10s. 3 Under 11 s The U11's are back training on the new surface at the ball wall at the Bleach. Practice makes perfect so keep it up lads looking forward to the year ahead. U14 Ladies Football Valley Rovers u14 ladies football played there first match of the season with a practice game against Ballinora in Innishannon last Sunday morning. Even though conditions were frosty underfoot, the Valleys got off to a great start when following a long clearance from defence, Nicole Calnan sprinted clear and found the back of the net to give a 1 goal to nil lead. Ballinora fought back and a goal just on the stroke of half time left the score of 1.3 to 0.3 in favour of Ballinora. Valleys found themselves under more pressure in the second half as Ballinora extended their lead before Jane Mulvihill and Ellen Fennelly kicked over points for Valleys, followed by another goal and a point by the impressive Calnan, leaving the finishing scoreline Ballinora 3.6 to Valley Rovers 2.3. This was a good workout for this team, who will no doubt improve as the year goes on. In Surveys conducted in the past by Valley Rovers many people have looked for an alternative to our texting service due to the cost involved. Our Club text (5144) is a reverse billing option where the receiver pays for the text received. This texting service is very beneficial to our supporters and we will be continuing to provide this service. Until now we were not aware of any alternatives that met our needs, however we believe we have found an Instant messenger similar to WhatsApp, Viber etc. that appears to be a good fit for the club. LINE is an Instant messenger which we feel has numerous advantages that we can see for the Club: We will continue with the texts also. If you wish to stop receiving text from 5144 just simply text the word STOP to and similarly if you wish to join the text list, now or in the future, simply text the word DOOR to We will be monitoring both the Instant Messenger and the 5144 Club text closely in the coming months. 7 Scholarships to the Gaeltacht at ColáistenaMumhan are available to students between the ages of 10 and 18 years of age, who are active members of their clubs.
