3 Game Reminders: - During the games is when players should be free to make decisions and try to implement the new skills you have been teaching them. Encourage them to be creative, to try and find solutions to situations, and to be brave and willing to make mistakes. - As a coach, please do not walk on the field with them unless there is a reason to do so (ie: you are making a coaching point, or helping a player with something). o Stand ideally in the end-zones as you coach, with extra balls ready in order to make sure the game gets restarted as fast as possible. - Remember that players can dribble in, and they should be reminded that they can do so often until they are used to that (simply say you can dribble in if you want ). - Remind the other team to retreat so that the restarts can be successful. - As they get older (U6-U7), you can start to introduce a shape while they play (diamond), and you can remind them of that occasionally on restarts. Training Reminders: Parent Station: - Will be run by technical staff, but you should still travel with your kids to the station and make sure to be helping out. Skills: - Show them skills and have them practice those, but also find ways for them to be creative. o Give them opportunities to show their own skills, or to make up their own routines, or just to find ways to do things themselves and make their own decisions. - Keep it fun! You must change things often, keep things fresh, and make sure they are playing lots of games (tag games, dribbling games, etc). Physical Literacy: - Speed is done in the form of RACES! - Agility, gymnastics, and strength is complimented on form who can do it the best! Who can be like an Olympian? Who can jump like a frog (squat jumps)! Who can be the fastest Bear (bear crawl)? Etc. The quality of execution is what matters most. - Make it fun! Joke around with them, high five them, keep score on races, show them and race with them. Pretend like it s the most important place to be at that moment for the players, it is! 4 Game/Practice Format Each session with the U4 s will comprise of 3 to 4 activities, of which one will always be a game of some sort. 4:45 PM field setup 5:15 PM practice begins, players start the first minute exercise. 6:00 PM finished clean up Details The 11v11 (Millennium 7) field is split in half, and from that, each half is divided into quadrants. Each quadrant is given a letter. Each quadrant is then given a team name. Coaches will be with the same team every week and will learn each of the kids names. U4 Season Plan Overview Month June July August Week Activity 1 Parent Station: Physical and Technical do-at-home drills Run by the head coaches Matches: Intro To 2v2/3v3 Games They learn how to play (i.e. score on the right net) Activity 2 Activity 3 Activity 4 Mental - Listening: Drills that rely mainly on the focus of the child. Keep it fun, fast and energetic. Employ the help of parents if needed. Physical - Circuits: Drills that teach the kids how a circuit works. Focus: PHYSICAL LITERECY. Technical - Complex Games: Teaches the kids awareness, ball skills. 4

Activity 2 Red-Light, Green-Light Activity 3 Follow the Leader - In small groups (max 4), players follow the leader (coach) and copy everything he or she does. Be creative in your setup, so that there are lots of obstacles and things to do. Change your speed, the way you move (i.e.: crawl, walk, run backwards, spin, hop, one leg etc.) - If they are getting it, you can let one of the players lead for a while. - Do lots of physical literacy through the circuit (somersaults, crawling, hopping, etc) Activity 4 Cops and Robbers For the U4s, the coaches will have to be the cops, and the players the robbers 5

Activity 2 Red-Light, Green-Light Activity 3 Follow the Leader - In small groups (max 4), players follow the leader (coach) and copy everything he or she does. Be creative in your setup, so that there are lots of obstacles and things to do. Change your speed, the way you move (i.e.: crawl, walk, run backwards, spin, hop, one leg etc.) - If they are getting it, you can let one of the players lead for a while. - Do lots of physical literacy through the circuit (somersaults, crawling, hopping, etc) Activity 4 Cops and Robbers For the U4s, the coaches will have to be the cops, and the players the robbers 6
7 Day 3 Activity 1 Parent Station Technical: Shooting +Hand-eye coordination: Parent Stands in Gate, Child tosses to them, they toss back to child, child kicks. Activity 2 Body Parts Activity 3 Hoop Course (set up 2 courses) Set up various courses and have the players go through them in various ways. Progressions: - Ball in the hands, - Ball at the feet - Various ways of moving - Hopping, running with 2 feet in each square - Sideways - Hopscotch - One footed hops - Feet and hands in the squares - Coach calls out a certain colour, then the player must go through that colour Activity 4 Freeze Tag 7

9 Day 5 Activity 1 Parent Station Physical: Balance: Push up position on ball (parent spot) Stand on ball (Parent spot) Balance on one foot Activity 2 Simon Says Activity 3 Hurdles and Ladders Course (set up two courses) Activity 4 Animal Cages Set up various courses and have the players go through them in various ways. Progressions: - Ball in the hands, - Ball at the feet - Push the ball through the hurdles and follow it - Push the ball through the hurdles and jump over - Various ways of moving - Various coordination exercises done through the ladders: - Hopping, running with 2 feet in each square - Sideways - Hopscotch - One footed hops - Feet and hands in the squares 9
