2 Speed Agility And Quickness Objectives Use the balls of feet to complete equipment. Use good balance through ladder drills. Look forward when using equipment. Use good body mechanics with and without equipment. Smooth action through equipment Improve spatial awareness.

3 Split the group into 4 teams. On the teacher s whistle children set off through the ladders. Once they have finished the ladder they turn to the left, go round the yellow cone then join the new line as shown in the diagram. As soon as one child joins the back of the line the child at the front can set off. Encourage children to show their neatest work not their fastest work when travelling through ladders. Once all children have returned to their original start position the game has finished. Now change the way they travel through the ladders and repeat the game. You can also change the way they travel to the white cone. Challenge the group to finish the game without missing a single gap within the ladders. Ask some children to help organise other children if they forget which way to turn after completing the ladders. Ask children to perform a short sprint towards the yellow cone.

4 In groups children take turns to complete the SAQ circuit. First, children can show their own individual ideas to complete each set of equipment. Second, ask children to discuss what type of movement they will do to complete each set of equipment. Children now complete the course creating the movements discussed. Once the first child has completed the white poles the next child can set off. Introduce new ideas to complete the course. Show ideas from other groups. Ask children to move around the equipment to create a course. Ask children to show their neatest work. Can children travel through each set of equipment on the balls of their feet. Children are split into small groups. On the teacher s whistle children race to complete the zigzag sprints shown in the picture. Change the cones for pairs of hurdles. Change the way they travel through the hurdles. Change the way they travel in between equipment.

5 Split children into small groups. Explain and demonstrate each station to the group. Example, step over each hurdle, zigzag through white poles and backwards running through the red cones. After 2 minutes the teacher blows the whistle and each group changes line to face new equipment. When children have completed all sets of equipment and have returned to their starting positions, change the way children travel through equipment. Ask children to lift knees high when travelling through ladders and hurdles. Share ideas from the group when changing the way children travel through equipment. Spot children travelling neatly trough equipment and ask them to demonstrate to the group. Children set off one at a time from the blue line. The blue child tries to dodge their way past the first guard. If they pass the guard they travel around the blue cone then try and pass the next guard until they complete the course. If a yellow tags the blue child they must return to the back of the line. Yellow guards must travel on line with the red cones when tagging. Challenge guards by moving the red cones further apart. Children can now set off in pairs to go past the guards. Encourage children to speed up when they change direction going past the guards.

6 Children travel around the area and use all the different pieces of equipment. Children must continue to move around the area until they find equipment free from other children. Once free, children can make up their own ideas of how to travel through equipment. If you spot a child using good footwork travelling through the ladder ask them to demonstrate to the class. Now all children must use this footwork to travel through the ladders. Do the same for hurdles and cones. After 1-2 minutes change and demonstrate the way they travel through each piece of equipment. Encourage children to look forward as much as possible when travelling through equipment. If equipment is being used encourage children to show a change of direction and speed to find a empty station. As soon as a child has completed a piece of equipment they must look for a different piece of equipment to complete. Encourage children to show their neatest work not their fastest when travelling through equipment. Ask children to travel on the ball of their foot through equipment. Continue to change the way they travel through each piece of equipment every 1-2 minutes.

7 Children travel through the first set of ladders facing forward. Still facing forwards children travel through the hurdles sideways. Children then sprint to the next set of ladders travelling forward then sideways through the hurdles. 2. Children sprint to the cones. Once at the cones children travel through in a zigzag motion then enter hurdles travelling sideways. Children then sprint to the next set of cones and repeat zigzag motion and travelling sideways over hurdles. 3. Children travel through the ladders facing forward. Halfway through the ladder children must exit the ladder, travel sideways around the cone then re-enter the ladder. Repeat movement on second ladder then return to line. Change the way children travel through the ladders, hurdles and cones (example, ladders/cones now travel sideways, hurdles forward steps or jumps). Ask children to use their arms to perform a running motion when travelling through equipment. Encourage children to bend their knees to change direction and push off with the balls of their feet.
