Global Premier Soccer GPS Curriculum 2015 Professional Development - Lee Moyce Junior/Premier - u9 - Dribbling

Pre-Practice Exercises Sponge Bob Juggling Players can work in pairs or as individuals. Player starts with ball in hand. Sponge - Drop ball, hit ball with knee and catch Sponge Bob - Drop ball, hit ball with both knee s and catch Sponge Bob Square - Drop ball, hit ball with both knee s, one foot and catch Sponge Bob Square Pants - Drop ball, hit ball with both knee s, both foot and catch. 1 Keep the pattern going without the catches in between touches Soccer Tennis Create a 10x12 yard grid with a line of cones through the centre half a yard apart. One player in each half of the grid. Game is like tennis, player passes the ball through the cones to the other-side. Other player has 2 touches to pass the ball back through. If ball hits a cone (the net) opposing player gains a point. Ball must stay on the ground at all times. Make the gaps in the net small enough that players have to take care with the pass but large enough to have success with the pass. 2 3 Technical - Dribbling (10mins) Set out a line of 5-6 cones with a larger target cone 8 yards away. 1 player starts with a ball, other player starts behind target cone. Player dribbles through the cones and passes the ball to try and hit the cone. Second player dribbles ball back to start and repeats. 1 point each time cone is hit. First player to 5 wins.

1 2 3 Technical Passing Warm Up (10mins) First player from each line dribbles to the central cone, around the cone and back to the group. Next person in line goes after a high 5. Toe taps to the cone & dribble back Foundations to the cone & dribble back One foot - Inside/Outside to cone - dribble back Dribble backwards Let players be creative Little touches Keep ball close to feet Use all parts of the feet Technical - Dribbling (10mins) Players perform footwork exercise to the first cone, dribble through the area to the cone opposite, around the cone and back to their group to high 5 next player in line. Create different dribbling pattern by having players dribble around the cone to the left, then opposite before dribbling back to the group. Head up to see other players Speed up into space Keep ball close to change direction

Beat The Box (10mins) Have one defender inside the box. First player from each team tries to dribble through the box to another group. 2 points if player dribbles straight through to opposite side. 1 point if they dribble through to the left or right. Defender gains a point if they can touch the top of a players ball with their foot. Defender now gets a point for tagging attacking players Add another defender Dribble fast into space Change speed or direction to beat defender 1v1 (10mins) Groups will now work with group opposite. 1 group have balls. First player from line with ball dribbles into the box. Defender from line opposite moves into box to try and steal the ball. Player who leaves the box with the ball gets a point. 2 points if player gets through without other player touching ball Change speed to beat defender if moving slowly Change direction to beat defender if moving fast

Small Sided Game (20mins) Play 7v formation. In each quarter of the field place a 4x4 box. Team gets a point if they dribble through any of the 4 boxes or score a goal. Take away the boxes and have free play Recognize when to attack space and dribble through box If you can t get through either of the two boxes in attacking half can you come back to other 2 boxes to gain a point.
