Athletes Althea Gibson ( ) Althea Gibson was a tennis player. She made history in 1950, at age 23. She became the first African American to play in the U.S. National Tennis Championships. At age 14, she became the youngest player to compete in a Professional Golfers Association tour event. Wie is in her twenties now. She has played against the best golfers in the world.
