This has really been a super month for golf! We have even had some players come all the way from Marietta, Georgia to join us in one of our events. We have seen some really awesome scores, and have played courses from Annbriar to Tower Tee. Speaking of some great golf, we want to give a huge round of applause to one of our most ambition young golfers, Brooke Biermann, who made her first ace this last month. Congratulations, Brooke, keep the great shots coming. All of our divisions seem to be growing in participation and skill. We have had several rounds under-par, and we keep seeing improvement from each and every one of you every time you play. We want to remind you that our division championships are coming up. To be eligible to participate, you must finish in the top-3 in an event, or finish top 10 in points for the season. *Exception to eligibility if you played in the Tour division, several honorary invites were sent out. If you have yet to place, we have a few more events on the horizon, so make sure you head online to gatewaypga.com/jrgolf to see which events we have left on our schedule. Also, if you get the Gateway Junior PGA app on your smart phone, you can check your place in the point standings, as well as checking the schedule for the remainder of the year. We will be sending out invitations very soon, and some of you may have received one already, so be on the lookout for those. We want to take this time to thank our sponsors for the year. 2 Dear Parents of Gateway PGA Junior Golfers, As a parent myself, I completely understand the desire and the emotional pull towards wanting to help your child. Golf is a unique sport governed by a set of rules that do not always seem to make sense at first glance. However, the rules of golf are put in place to provide consistency and integrity to every player in a given event. The Gateway Junior PGA also compliments the USGA Rules of Golf with spectator guidelines and local rules for each given facility that we play. One policy that seems to be continually breeched is parents providing advice to their sons or daughters. It is very important that you, as parents, abide by the rule of staying well out of the way of your junior as they compete. Just as in any other sport, you are not allowed to enter the field/court of play during the competition. By and large, many of the parents are following this rule. However, we continue to have incidents of parents ignoring this policy, even after being warned. The spectator guidelines are clearly posted for each event and we ask that you please take a moment to ask a staff member if there is any uncertainty. Please be considerate of the entire field and the policies put in place by the Gateway Junior PGA. Golf is a sport unlike any other because of the demands on self-accountability, integrity, and respect of your fellow competitor. Studies have overwhelmingly proven that junior golfers, who embrace the game, go on to display these very same qualities and attributes in their personal and professional lives. Please help your junior by being a positive example and by staying on the sidelines in our 9-hole, 18-hole, and tour divisions. We do not want to penalize or disqualify any of our competitors you can help us to make that a reality. 3 We don't usually get pure fairways in St. Louis like the ones at Gateway National, Eh? This tough Scottish style golf course proved to be a challenge the first day, but was overpowered by our eventual champions in the second round. A big congratulation goes to Ms. Emilee Flaugher and Mr. Michael Kanan who put together some consistent play to pull away from the field in their respective divisions. Both players kept from making the big numbers as neither of them carded a double or worse in their final rounds. That is the key to winning golf tournaments and they both successfully accomplished that goal. Emilee and Michael had some great scores, but the competition was fierce this week. 4 Tuesday, June 18th. Another beautiful day at Gateway National Golf Links. The golf course was in really good shape for the amount of rain that it got the day before and the amazing bent grass fairways allowed the players to enjoy the tournament a little bit better. This time the players were real golf, playing the ball down everywhere, so if you miss the fairway that meant trouble and possibly a lost ball, which made the golf course a little bit more difficult. 5 Thursday, June 20th. It has been a great day of golf at the Landings. It was a golf tournament where players could enjoy the private jets taking off very close to the golf course. In addition to the planes, the players also enjoyed a golf fun to play golf course that was in really good shape. Congratulations to all the champions! 6 The day was a great turnout! The weather was amazing and the boys and girls had an awesome showing. We had some great scores throughout the day, thanks to the great work that the course has done to keep the greens in perfect condition throughout this blistering heat in previous weeks. 8 What a wonderful morning of golf at Yorktown! With a few words about Driving and Pace of Play, we kicked off another great Mini Novice 9 golf tournament. Congratulations to the medalists! Mini 9 Girls Mini 9 Boys Novice 9 Girls Novice 9 Boys 8

9 We had a soggy couple of days at the site of the old rock Quarry. The course played long, and I think we would have been better served driving canoes around the course instead of golf carts. We had some famous faces around the course: Alice Cooper and his band, and Hale Irwin were out at Crystal Springs, but the headlines would not be about celebrities. Congratulations to Ricky Barrett and Reagan Snavely for toughing the heat and beating out the competition. Both players had to take to the course for extra holes: Reagan made par on the first playoff hole to edge out Maranda Smith, while Ricky Barrett dropped an atom bomb from 60 feet to clinch the playoff for the boys division. 10 The tournament at Crystal Springs Golf Course was the perfect definition of a hot summer day. The golf course is located in an old Quarry, making it a beautiful and "fun to play" golf course. Unfortunately, despite of having a really sunny day at the golf course the day before rained a lot, making the field a little bit longer than usual. However it seemed that it did not affect to many of the players who were able to shoot really good scores. Congratulations to all the champions: Girls Girls Boys Boys Boys

11 This time the Gateway Junior tour was played at Paradise Valley G. C. A country club established in The golf course is situated in a picturesque valley surrounded by woods and abundant wildlife. 13 The Gateway Junior tour travelled to Tamarack Country Club located in Shiloh, IL. This golf course it is a fun and challenging golf course for golfers of all skill levels. The golf course was in very good shape, especially after this month with such a crazy weather. This golf course, a par 72, is a challenging golf course that was built in This narrow golf course offered players the chance to score low by keeping the ball in the fairway. 18 Its a darn good thing that we had some shuttles in between a few of those holes. I fear that some players would still be walking up the hill to 9 tee if we didn't. We also hope that you all have had ample time to take your clothes and dry them by the fire after that second round. It was a grind, but we are proud of each and every one of you for sticking it out, and still coming in with some impressive rounds. We want to extend our congratulations to the champions of this event, Rachael Pearson who shot an 85 on those less-than-favorable conditions the second day to take the win. Also, to Tommy Rudawsky who kept it together to fire two 79's on a long and eventually very mentally challenging golf course. Great Playing! 19 This time the Gateway Junior tour travelled to Emerald Greens G.C. This is a scenic golf course in North St. Louis County. It is fun and challenging par 70 on 365 acres with close-up views of indigenous wildlife on the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. One more time Mother Nature decided to make the golf course a little bit longer than usual because of all the rain received the day before. Despite of the difficulty and the length of the golf course many players ended up with solid rounds of golf on a tough day. Like always, thank you for your participation. 23 Tapawingo National proved to be a true test of patience and skill on Monday and Tuesday. The jaws of countless water hazards and tall grass lining every hole engulfed many-a-golf shot. Despite the tough layout, two champions arose this week in the Tour division. Crimson Callahan conquered this golf course shooting 1-over par for two days while being chased by his fellow high school teammate Tommy Rudawsky. When asked about the charging Rudawsky Crimson said, I just focused on making par; hitting every single fairway and every single green. He accomplished that goal finishing with an even par 72 on the final day. For the Girls, Alexa Boatman held off a field of young ladies that included 2 participants all the way from Marietta, GA. She was concerned, pre-round, about her play on the final day of tournaments, but stayed focused on the way to securing her first Tour Division Victory in Congratulations! 24 The Gateway Junior tour travelled to Tapawingo National G.C. Bright and sunny day at the golf course. Three championship nines designed to allow the golfer to play at his or her skill level. Rivers, lakes and hardwood forests provide the ultimate golf experience.twenty-seven championship holes and a spectacular natural setting designed by Boys one of the only five winners of golf's Grand Slam Gary Player. When Player was asked about Tapawingo this is what he said: "Out of the 100 or so courses I've had a hand in, only four pieces of ground have really stood out, and this is one of them... You could not ask for better material. This piece of ground has it all - trees, hills, rolling terrain, terrific elevations and water, including the Meramec River bordering the low areas. God designed the first 6 holes. Player Design helped out with the rest." I am sure that most of the players would agree with that statement. Like always, thank you for your participation. 25 We spoke with the powers that be and requested a couple very nice days to play a golf tournament. To say the least, our wishes were granted. The conditions were prime for some great scores, and that was only further proven by the numbers posted on the scoreboard. We want to extend our congratulations to our two Tour Division Champions this week: Tommy Rudawsky for the gentlemen and Emilee Flaugher for the ladies. This is the second Tour division win for both players, and they shot scores that had the "W" in the bag for most of the final Round. For the most part, both players had extremely steady rounds on the final day, making an abundance of pars to stay around even for a majority of the event. Great playing guys, keep the great scores coming! In addition to some great winning scores, our runner-up finishers had some noteworthy numbers as well. 27 The Gateway Junior tour travelled to Oak Brook Golf Club. Located northeast of Edwardsville, IL, Oak Brook Golf Club is a 27 holes public golf facility. It was another great day to play golf, where people enjoyed the weather and also the golf course. Players posted really good scores, making it a very competitive tournament. 29 Registration closes Friday, July 26 th for the St. Ann Team Event! Grab a buddy, wear matching team outfits, and come out to St. Ann on August 2 nd for a fun event with friends! Important: your teammate must be registered in the same division as you, i.e. Mini or Novice. Sign up on the tournament page at INVITATIONS FOR THE MINI NOVICE 9 CHAMPIONSHIP HAVE BEEN SENT OUT. If you are a qualifier for the Championship, do not hesitate to register SPACES ARE LIMITED! This two-day event will be held July 31 and August 1 at Ballwin Golf Course. A tee time format will kick off each day with awards presentations after the second day of play. See the information below (also found in the Member Guide) for Player of the Year Points and Final Championships: Player of the Year The top ten finishers in each division at every tournament will be awarded points. The Player of the Year will be determined by the average of points, from player s top six finishes (5 for the Tour division). Once the season finishes, the Player of the Year is awarded to the boy and girl in each division with the most amount of points. If there is a tie for player of the year, the next best finish outside the six averaged, will be the tie breaker. Throughout the season, the accumulation of points will count toward the Championship Tournament at the end of the season. Invitations to this tournament will be given based on number of points. At the Championship tournament, the top ten finishers will be awarded double points. Final Championships There are two ways to earn an invitation to the final championships: Being one of the top ten players of the year as of July 26th, 2013 Medaling (1st, 2nd or 3rd place) at any of the events during the summer. 30 L ooking for some easy ways to maintain or improve your fitness this summer? Three words: move, hydrate, breathe. Add a consistent plan and you ll stay on track. MOVE Make sure you get some daily activity in your life by walking, swimming, biking, yoga, or some other movement that gets your heart rate up. More helpful: Include some weight training and stretching movements. HYDRATE Along with drinking plenty of water and other healthful drinks, eating nutritional foods will help you stay hydrated. Foods such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and proteins work to keep your energy up and help you maintain focus. More helpful: Plan to drink eight glasses of liquid a day, primarily water. Avoid caffeine. BREATHE Breathing keeps oxygen moving in your body and helps you maintain energy. It also improves focus, relaxes muscles, and reduces stress. And obviously, being relaxed and focused is a big plus for your golf game, right? More helpful: One way to practice breathing is by inhaling slowly through the nose Then exhaling slowly either through the nose or mouth. Begin to follow the breath in and out of your body. Put a rhythm to your breath and match that rhythm in your pre-swing routine. Notice how the rhythm of your breath relaxes your body, mind and spirit.
