The Men s GAP Matches will be held late April and early May. With 3 teams we will need 36 players each week of the matches. So, WE NEED YOU!! If you are interested in participating in the matches sign up online for each of the weeks you are available (there are 3 different events online) or us at golfshop@rivercrestgolfclub.com. The matches will be held on Sundays, April 23rd, 30th and May 7th. We will also need Captains for the 3 teams, so if interested please let us know. THE DEADLINE TO SIGN UP HAS BEEN MOVED UP TO MARCH 10TH! The 2017 Ladies WGAP Registration will open on January 2, Registration remains open throughout the season. Members must be registered by Friday, March 10, 2017 to be eligible to play in team matches and will need a USGA Handicap Index of 36.0 or better on the WGAP GHIN handicap report of November 1, 2016 and at least 10 scores posted in Go to February Golf Hours of Operation The Golf Shop and Bag Room will reopen on Wednesday, February 1st, For the month of February, both the Shop and Bag Room will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00am until 4:00pm. Both areas are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays for February. The Golf Course is open every day except Tuesday for the month beginning at 10:00am. On Mondays, players may play the course but must walk and carry their clubs as the Bag Room will be closed. The Practice Range is closed in February. GET A GRIP ON IT! If you re dreaming of holding your clubs one day soon, at least check to make sure the grips are as comfortable as possible! Throughout February and March we will be offering our annual 15% off regripping sale, encouraging you to check out the wear on your grips and deciding which clubs need the most help (don t forget about the putter, either). If you keep your clubs in bag storage over the winter, Kyle can go through and do a complete assessment for you, noting which grips are most severely worn, and some of the comparable options to those grips that we may have in stock. 4 Rule 6-7 Undue Delay By Jamie Komancheck, PGA Head Golf Professional 2017 is going to be a YUGE year in golf! Colby can t wait for spring to arrive in the Northeast. To help spring come earlier he has re-routed Punxsutawney Phil s exit hole indoors so he won t see the sun or his shadow (who wants to wait another 6 weeks for golf!) To help break up the winter, we took Colby out of school and headed to the PGA Show in Orlando to see all the newest golf gear. At the Show we gave Colby a small budget and sent him off to find something unique for junior golfers this year. At the end of the day we reconvened and discussed all the cool, must-have items for the coming year. Colby wouldn t divulge what he spent his money on. He said we d have to see it in person the next day at Streamsong Resort just outside Orlando (he didn t need to twist my arm too hard.) was a little nervous as Colby took off and flew down the first hole, but man did that look AWESOME!! Evel Knievel and I had a friendly match. The winner of the match would get to fly the Jet Pack back to Orlando! The course was spectacular and my caddie gave me much better reads than Colby s did. I was one up after 16 holes. The 17th hole at Streamsong Blue is a 590 yard Par 5 with plenty of waste bunkers guarding every shot. I got in trouble off the tee, but managed to get my 3rd shot onto the green. Colby hit a perfect drive and went for the green in two. He hit a good shot but found a bunker next to the green. When we got to the green Colby parked the Jet pack and went to get his sand wedge for the shot. It wasn t in his bag. He either left it at a previous hole or it had fallen out of the Jet Pack. He decided to go back and find it, so he fired up the Jet Pack and took off. My caddie and I waited for him to return. The group behind us caught up and I waved them through as we waited. It was 20 minutes before Colby returned. He said he found it back near the 14th green. I hated to do it, but I then informed him that he broke Rule 6-7 Undue Delay; the player must play without undue delay. And 20 minutes is definitely undue delay!! The penalty in match play was loss of hole. So that put me two up with 1 to play, and gave me the match! Normally, I might not call him on the violation, but we re talking about time in the Jet Pack! Colby threw a fit! I didn t care, since the match was over I told my caddie to take Colby s clubs off the Jet Pack, strap mine on and that I d meet him back at the Clubhouse. I made Colby carry his clubs in as I flew all over both courses. After I was done fooling around Colby asked me how I liked it. I told him I loved it! Only issue is that we were going to have to use the entire Golf Shop budget! Streamsong is a bucket list destination for all golfers with two (soon to be three) outstanding golf courses. We got a tee time on the Blue course. They don t allow golf carts over the winter months, so I arranged for caddies. Colby let me know his caddie was already waiting for him on the first tee. When we got to the tee my eyes widened, my jaw dropped, and the grin on Colby s face stretched ear to ear. Turns out his caddie was an Oakley Jet Pack! I was speechless! (After all, how much did he spend on it? There was no way that was going to fit in the Golf Shop budget!) Colby let me know that the Jet Pack only fits one person so I was out of luck and would have to walk. I

If you have not been preparing yourself for the upcoming golf season don t fret. Here are a few ways to get your golf game ready for the season. 1. Check your equipment--before hitting the links, check your grips. A good cleaning or grip overhaul is always a good idea to start the year. Get a new pair of shoes or put new cleats in existing shoes. 2. Set goals--set realistic goals that are scaled so you don t become too frustrated if your scores aren't what you want them to be, take notes during your first few rounds of what you want to practice so you can use your range sessions effectively. 3. Exercise--Golfers should keep a regular exercise routine year-round and consider teaming up with a trainer who specializes in working with golfers. Choose cardio exercises to build stamina along with plenty of stretching for flexibility. 4. Learn When to Stretch--Before a round, you want to prime your muscles, not stretch them out. Something as simple as a brisk walk while swinging dumbbells will get your muscles warm. Or do jumping jacks. Avoid doing long-hold stretches before a round. Save those for post round or post workout. 5. Train Torso Separation--Ideally, a golfer should be able to rotate his or her hips independently of the upper torso and vice versa to swing a club efficiently. Learning to rotate the upper body through the midback (thoracic spine) and the lower body through the hips is crucial to syncing a good golf swing. You can help train this separation by first holding back your shoulders with your hands and rotating your hips back and forth. Then sit in a chair or on a physio ball and rotate your mid-back in either direction. 6. Start with putting--practicing putting is one of the easiest ways to get back in the swing. One of the most important elements of golf, putting can be practiced in your home or office. From there, move on to chipping and pitching before practicing full swings. 7. Practice while you play--hit the course by yourself and play a twoball scramble. After each shot, drop another ball and do it again. Challenge yourself by playing the worse ball. 8. Keep track--write down detailed statistics about your game, such as how many fairways you hit and how many putts you took, this will allow you to analyze your strengths and weaknesses and tailor your practice accordingly.
