No fewer than 40 of the 64 players gathered at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club on Dove Mountain in Arizona s Sonaran Desert are in European Tour Membership, and inevitably the draw has thrown up a number of exciting match-ups, with 12 European Tour head-to-heads in the first round. Westwood (pictured below), top seed in the Gary Player bracket, against fellow Englishman and 2009 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year, Chris Wood, is one such mouth-watering tie, as the duo from This week on The European Tour Feb 17-21, 2010 WGC - Accenture Match Play Ritz-Carlton GC, Dove Mountain - Marana, Arizona, USA PRIZE FUND: US$8,500,000 DEFENDING CHAMPION: Geoff Ogilvy (AUS) the same management stable, who finished joint third in last year s Open Championship, meet on the opening day. The Gary Player bracket is brimming with international players, including defending champion Geoff Ogilvy in the same section of the draw as Westwood. The Australian is looking to become the first player to win the title three times, following his successes in 2006 and He was also runnerup in 2007 and has reached the final in three of the four times he has played. His impressive record of won 17 matches, lost two will make him a formidable opponent for Swede Alexander Noren in the first round, playing in his first WGC - Accenture Match Play. The same bracket also includes 2007 champion Henrik Stenson, who faces American Ben Crane, US PGA Champion YE Yang, South African Major winners Ernie Els and Retief Goosen, and dogged Danes Søren Hansen and Søren Kjeldsen. Whoever makes it through the Gary Player Division certainly deserves a place in the semi-final. American World Number Two Steve Stricker, who won the title in 2001 when ranked 55th, is now the top seed and will face England s Ross McGowan in the opening round. Masters Champion Angel Cabrera is also in the Bobby Jones bracket, taking on Adam Scott in the opening round, as is another Major Champion, Padraig Harrington, who faces India s Jeev Milkha Singh on Wednesday morning. Cabrera and Harrington, who between them have won all four Majors, could meet in the third round. Germany s Martin Kaymer heads up the Ben Hogan bracket and has a tough opening match against Chad Campbell, who finished fourth in his last appearance in the WGC Accenture Match Play in Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, who so impressed on his US debut in this event last year, faces another of the game s younger generation in Kevin Na. Indeed, 23 are under the age of 30, setting a new record, with Japan s Ryo Ishikawa the youngest player to compete in the event, aged 18 and 154 days. And there is the possibility of brother versus brother in the Sam Snead bracket as the Molinari s from Italy could meet in the quarter finals if they get through. Edoardo and Francesco are the first brothers to compete in the WGC Accenture Match Play but safe passage will not be easy, with Edoardo facing the reigning Open Champion, Stewart Cink, and Francesco up against former Masters Champion Zach Johnson. Last year s beaten finalist Paul Casey of England (pictured above), may also stand in their way as the tournament progresses. Next event on the European Senior Tour Mar 5-7, 2010 The Aberdeen Brunei Senior Masters presented by The Stapleford Forum The Empire Hotel & Country Club, Brunei PRIZE FUND US$400,000 Defending Champion: Mike Cunning (USA) This Week on the European Challenge Tour Feb 18-21, 2010 Abierto Internacional de Golf Il Copa Antioquia Club Campestre El Rodeo, Sede La Macarena, Medellin, Colombia PRIZE FUND US$220,000 (NEW EVENT)

DRIVING ACCURACY Defined as both an average number of fairways per round and a percentage of fairways hit. DRIVING DISTANCE Defined as an average number of yards per drive. Two drives are measured per round on holes chosen to counteract the effect of gradient or wind. The drives are measured at the point they come to rest regardless of whether they are on the fairway or not. GREENS IN REGULATION Defined as both an average number of greens per round and a percentage of greens hit. A green in regulation is defined as the number of shots that a player should take to reach the putting surface on any given hole, being one for Par 3s, two for Par 4s and three for Par 5s. PUTTS PER GIR Defined as both the average number of putts taken per green in regulation and the average number of putts taken per round on greens that are hit in regulation. By doubling the greens per round figure and thereby assuming two putts on each green in regulation, we can then subtract the GIR putts per round figure from this total to infer the number of strokes under par the player will be per round from the greens hit in regulation. AVERAGE PUTTS Defined as the average number of putts taken per round. The use of the putter from off the green does not constitute a putt as far as the statistics are concerned. KEY AVE SPR - Average scrambles per round AVE Missed GPR - Average missed greens per round SCRAMBLES The frequency, expressed as a percentage to one decimal place, of the player scoring par or better on holes where the player missed the Green in Regulation.

11 Abierto Internacional de Golf Il Copa Antioquia Mads Vibe-Hastrup Robert Dinwiddie Tour de las Americas Order of Merit winner Peter Gustafsson Gustafsson up for the Challenge again Peter Gustafsson will be leaving nothing to chance this week when he returns to Colombia to defend the Abierto Internacional de Copa II Copa Antioquia in Medellin, which heralds the start of the 2010 European Challenge Tour season. The 33 year old Swede won the event in 2009 when it was sanctioned by the Tour de las Americas only, having entered at the last minute following a casual phone conversation with his friend and countryman Fredrik Widmark. Not only did Gustafsson win the tournament, that victory was the springboard towards capturing the Tour de las Americas Order of Merit title after two other top ten finishes and a tied 15th place. Roope Kakko Roope Kakko One year on, the Abierto Internacional de Copa II Copa Antioquia at Club Deportivo El Rodeo is co-sanctioned by both the Challenge Tour and the Tour de las Americas for the first time, and Gustafsson cannot wait to return to Colombia for his title defence. He recalled: Last year was my first time in Colombia and it was kind of a coincidence that I played it. My friend, Fredrik Widmark, phoned me to ask if I was playing in the Club Colombia Masters which was a Challenge Tour event in When I said I was, he asked me if I wanted to go a week early and play another tournament in Colombia on the Tour de las Americas. So I contacted the tournament organisers and they got me in the field at the last minute and then I ended up winning it so it worked out very well I just like it a lot over there. I m living in Spain at the moment and speaking Spanish and South America is very similar. There are lots of nice people so I m really looking forward to the trip. Gustafsson is bullish about his chances this year, adding: My main goal is to win the Challenge Tour and I m also aiming to win one of the European Tour events I m playing in this season. Last season I had a very bad category and it was very difficult to plan anything. But this year is much better. I can plan much more so I ve just had six weeks of very good practice and I m feeling great. Julien Guerrier Julien Guerrier Meanwhile Argentina s Alan Wagner will pin his hopes on history repeating itself this week. Wagner launched the 2009 campaign with a one-shot victory in the event Gustafsson originally entered, the Club Colombia Masters presentado por Personal. Victory in Bogota meant he became the youngest player to win an event co-sanctioned by the Challenge Tour and the Tour de las Americas at just 19 years, seven months and 14 days. He went on to record top ten finishes at the Trophée du Golf de Genève and the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final but had to settle for 23rd place in the Challenge Tour Rankings, narrowly missing out on earning a European Tour card. Now, a year older and wiser, Wagner embarks on his second season on the Challenge Tour, looking for an even stronger, more consistent campaign, starting at Club Deportivo El Rodeo in Medellin where a $220,000 prize fund is on offer.
