When Yves reaches his ball in the bunker he is still thinking about Pierre's objection and he carelessly tops his bunker shot. The ball hits the lip and dribbles back into the bunker. Yves swings his club into the sand in anger charges up to his ball and without even taking a proper stance he swings at his ball and sends it up the fairway from where he pitches it onto the putting green. Seeing that there are a number of seeds just in front of his ball, he brushes them away with his hat without marking his ball. Unfortunately, he accidentally knocks his ball while doing so and it comes to rest several centimetres from where it lay. He replaces his ball and putts into the hole. What is Yves's score for the hole?

Rules 30-3b and 31-4. answer 91: 1 - Drive into the fairway bunker. Note: Although the competitor who has the honour at the first teeing ground should be determined by the order of the draw there is no penalty in stroke play for playing out of turn (Rule 10-2). 2 - Topped stroke from the bunker. 3 & 4 - Two penalty strokes for swinging his club into the sand while his ball was still in the same bunker; none of the exceptions to Rule 13-4 apply (Decision 13-4/35). 5 - Stroke from the bunker up the fairway. 6 - Pitch onto the putting green. 7 - Putt into the hole. Note: There is no penalty for accidentally moving a ball on the putting green if it is directly attributable to the removal of loose impediments, even if the ball has not been marked; the ball must be replaced (Rule 23-1). Loose impediments may be removed by any means (Decision 23-1/1). yves scores 7 for the hole.

3 question 92: daisy hits her drive into a freshly sanded fairway bunker. She takes an 8-iron into the hazard and digs her feet in the sand. Seeing that her ball is lying well she changes her mind about which club to use, returns to her bag to fetch her 7-wood and takes her stance a second time, digging-in a little further. She plays a good shot from the bunker just onto the putting green. Before making her putt she clears a number of leaves from the putting green and sees an acorn lightly embedded in her putting line. She easily brushes the acorn away with the back of her hand and repairs the hole that is left with her pitch mark repairer. Her first putt slides by the outside of the hole but she easily holes the return putt. What is Daisy's score for the hole? This time it rolls more than two club-lengths from where it first hit the ground, but not nearer the hole. He lifts and drops it for a third time and it comes to rest close to where it hit the ground, not nearer the hole. However, the cactus is still close to his stance and as he is wearing shorts he takes out his towel and places it over the cactus spines so that his legs will not be scratched. His stroke from this difficult lie hits his trolley and bounces back into the same bush. Once again he deems ball unplayable, drops according to the Rules and this time plays a good stroke onto the putting green, from where he takes two putts to hole out. Still flustered from her late arrival she then makes a mess of her tee shot and hooks it into a bunker on an adjacent hole. She sees a ball that is almost buried in soft sand but cannot positively identify it as hers. As she cannot see any other ball in the bunker she assumes that it must be hers, digs her feet into the sand to make a stance and swings at the ball. Her contact is not good and she immediately realises that she has hit the ball twice in splashing it out of the bunker. She remembers to rake the bunker

Decision 13-2/0.5. answer 94: 1 & 2 - Two penalty strokes for arriving late but within five minutes of the start time (Rule 6-3a, amended January 2012). Note: As Cherie's friend had completed her round there is no penalty for borrowing a club from her, providing Cherie's total number of clubs does not then exceed 14 (Rule 4-4a). 3 - Hooked drive into the bunker of an adjacent hole. 4 - Stroke from the bunker. 5 - One penalty stroke for striking the ball more than once in the course of the stroke from the bunker (Rule 14-4). Note: A player does not have to positively identify their ball before playing it, but they do incur a penalty of two strokes if it is not their ball and they must then find their original ball and continue play with it. if it cannot be found within 5 minutes, they must play another ball under penalty of stroke and distance. 6 to 8 - Three strokes to complete the hole. Cherie scores 8 for the hole.

8 question 95: adam fades a long drive into the far end of a fairway bunker. As he approaches the bunker he sees a rake lying on the sand some way away from his ball. He walks in to pick it up and drags it over the wet sand, smoothing the footsteps he has just made as he backs out. He then enters the bunker again close to his ball, throws down the rake in the sand and considers his next shot. Although his ball is at rest in a dry area of the bunker Adam realises that his natural stance will mean that he has to stand in an area of casual water. However, he decides to play the ball as it lies and carefully steps into the puddle, takes his stance and with a 5-iron clips his ball cleanly off the sand onto the putting green close to the hole. He rakes the bunker carefully and approaches the putting green, where his fellow competitors are already waiting. Thinking it is his turn to putt he crouches down to study the line. His concentration is broken by a shout from behind him, as a fellow competitor pitches up to the hole from the apron. Believing it likely that the fellow competitor's ball will hit his stationary ball, he quickly bends down, marks his ball and lifts it, just as the other ball rolls by. When it is his turn to putt he replaces his ball, lifts his marker and confidently strokes his ball into the hole. What is Adam's score for the hole?
