The TAA is an INDUSTRY UNITED INITIATIVE The non-profit 501(c)(3)Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance accredits, inspects and awards grants to approved aftercare organizations to retrain, retire and rehome Thoroughbreds using industry-wide funding. 1
FOUNDED IN 2012 BY INDUSTRY LEADERSHIP The TAA was formed by leading entities within the sport, with the goal of becoming an industry-wide initiative. Since our founding, stallion farms, owners, trainers, breeders, and racetracks have united to support aftercare as an industry. The TAA is the essence of credibility for our sport. With the TAA the Thoroughbred industry can say in clear conscience that in fact we are taking care of these athletes after their competitive years in racing are finished. TAA President and Darby Dan Owner, John Phillips 2
THE TAA DIFFERENCE ACCREDIT We provide a professional and rigorous accreditation process for aftercare organizations. AWARD We provide financial assistance through grants as well as in-kind services to approved aftercare organizations. INSPECT We diligently and consistently inspect our organizations and their approach to aftercare. 3
ACCREDITATION APPLICATION & SITE REVIEWS The accreditation Application is a comprehensive review of the organization, medical and husbandry procedures and plans to prove sustainability of operations. This review focuses on many areas including: Non-profit status Length of time an organization has been operating as an aftercare organization Financial stability History of caring for, retraining and placing of Thoroughbreds in adoptive homes The accreditation Site Review is conducted by a Veterinarian or TAA representative and focuses on the following areas per the TAA Code of Standards: Horses: appearance and proper management Health Care Program: vaccination, worming, dental, farrier Nutritional Program: feed, water, forage, pasture Organization Condition: fencing, pastures, paddocks, equipment Experience of managerial staff Insurance compliance Euthanasia and adopting policy and procedures The TAA s Code of Standards and Accreditation process has been approved by the AAEP. 4

THE TAA FUNDING Since its inception and initial funding, the TAA has diligently sought to meet the challenging demands of aftercare for our athletes. We have broadened our donor base and developed numerous innovative efforts to increase the much-needed financial support of our partners. Since 2012, the TAA has granted over $10.8 million to 64 accredited organizations, with more than 180 facilities across the United States and Canada. The demand greatly exceeds our ability to meet our requests for support. We will continue to explore ways with our industry stakeholders to address the funding needs of aftercare. 7
THE TAA ANNUAL EXPENDITURES Reserve Fund 5% G & A Expense 10% 10% Direct Program Expenses Associated with the Accreditation Process 75% Annual Grants 8
THE TAA FUNDING MODEL More than ever, public sensitivity to the question of what happens to Thoroughbreds after racing is strong and increasing. If unanswered it could be ruinous. The TAA is a legitimate and effective response. The TAA is not a charity, it is more of an insurance for your business, protecting our livelihood, our passion, our sport. Without the support of sustainable funding from key industry stakeholders, such as our stallion farms, racetracks, horsemen s groups, sales companies, owners, trainers, foundations, sponsors, supporters and more, the TAA would not exist. The TAA funding is provided by the generosity and mindfulness of our industry stakeholders dedicated to accredited Thoroughbred aftercare. 9
INDUSTRY SUPPORT FOR THE TAA Amazing achievements happen when we work together and the TAA industry stakeholders are our most valuable assets. We welcome the opportunity to discuss how the TAA can create a relationship that is perfectly tailored for you and your commitment to the Thoroughbred industry. 10
SHOWING THE INDUSTRY YOU SUPPORT AFTERCARE As a sustainable funder, the TAA will provide you, your farm, racing stable or business with recognition year-round. While the TAA has multiple channels to promote your participation, we are open to ideas you may have as well. Inclusion on TAA website and TAA marketing materials Exposure through TAA social media and press activities Exposure at selected TAA events Recognition in the annual TAA magazine published by the Daily Racing Form You can also show your support to TAA within your marketing efforts, with our Proud Supporter seal on your website and marketing materials. 11
