Some key points: * Don't break the curve in the arm (in the movement) at the beginning of the technique. * Push and step forward when you do the movement. * Use not only your arms but also your body do complete the movement. 4 STUDY GROUP TOMIKI AIKIDO - Saturday 18th October, 2014 This afternoon two students from Spain joined us, Michael Thraves and Vicente Bosch. Vicente participated in the pre-session with Gitte Wolput for some Randori training. The first of the two main sessions started with our Pendulum and Spine stretching and warming exercises. Next we practised the eight movements of Sotai-Dosa. Initially we reinforced the sequence and then we performed it in a flowing non-disjointed way to create one continuous movement from the eight moves. This proved to be a very aerobic and softening way to continue to warm up. The main emphasis today s two session was for couples to work on their designated Kata in preparation for the Grading s in Antwerp and Spain next month. Koryu Dai San, Koryu Dai Yon and Koryu Dai Roku were the main topics.

5 Afterwards a Warm Down applying the Hara exercises in a sitting position and finally a stretch. In the evening we experienced some Belgium culture in the form of a Recital from Countertenor singer, Peter Ickx, performing various pieces featuring his unique falsetto voice. 6 STUDY GROUP TOMIKI AIKIDO - Sunday 19th October, 2014 We started the session with our pendulum and whole-body exercises. The main emphasis for today s first session was for couples to work on their designated Kata in preparation for the Grading s in Antwerp and Spain next month. Koryu Dai San, Koryu Dai Yon and Koryu Dai Roku were the main topics. In the second session we studied elements of Randori no Kata, Atemi Waza and Uki Waza. Some key points: * When Tori floats, Uke experiences kuzushi. * Tori floats, therefore, they can move horizontally more easily. * The action is similar to that of a Metronome. * The pivot point stays in one place. * Uki Waza breaks the mirror action. A few sessions ago we were asked to demonstrate five methods of performing a given technique from the same starting point; Five Ways of doing a Technique Today we explored the concept of Tsukuri and its component parts. The breakdown of this has to include the preparation of Tori and the preparation of Uke. In effect there is a formula and the same formula applies in all cases.

The formula is: TSUKURI Whose component parts are: JIBUN Preparation of Tori AITE Preparation of Uke KUZUSHI Control of balance KAKE The start of the throw or technique NAGERU The completion of the
