12 1 8 ROAD-MTB R + D INDUSTRIAL DESIGN DYNAMIC OF FLUIDS AND COMPUTER ANALYSIS The high range frames have been developed by combining the computer analyses iderived from the tests carried out in the wind tunnel and the fluid dynamic tests by computer. The result is frames with an aerodynamic and totally innovative silhouette, with shapes optimised to the limit. The fluid analysis identified optimal geometry and enabled the discovery of a much more dynamic and efficient transversal section. MANUFACTURING PROCESSES HCIM HOLLOW CORE INTERNAL MOLDING The frame is constructed in-side-out so that it is lighter and more stylised. This exclusive system involves applying internal pressure in the mould, which achieves high levels of compact material, eliminates inconsistent pressures and avoids bubbles and imperfections forming in the composite. This innovative technology enables the ideal thicknesses of the different parts of the frame to be controlled and optimised, the most suitable carbon fibres to be selected and ensure the overlap is minimal. The result is a spectacular and aerodynamic design, with rigidity, extreme lightness and optimal behaviour in vertical absorption.

13 R + D ROAD-MTB MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT 1 9 CARBON FIBER HM In the monocoque frames the High Modulus carbon fibers T40, T30 and T24 are made taking the forces and tensions into account that have to support the objective of reinforcing the most critical areas and lightening those that are not subject to so much stress. This combination of fibres offers rigidity, resistance, efficiency and maximum absorption in the lightest frame range. The prior design of Ultralight Evo has enabled the optimal combination of carbon fibre and resin laminates to be incorporated that are the essence of the new generation of BH frames. CINEMATIC STUDY AND ANALYSIS 3 WHEEL LINK 1 LINK CONTROL LINK BRAKE 2 SPLIT PIVOT SYSTEM WHAT IS SPLIT PIVOT TECHNOLOGY? Split Pivot is a floating suspension system developed by BH based on traction, pedalling efficiency, handling and the bicycle s rigidity. This system allows for separate action on three forces produced on the bicycle: pedalling, braking and suspension. The obtained result is maximum pedalling efficiency with consistent and progressive suspension. The advanced rear suspension of the Lynx allows it to have a greater range while being very lightweight. KEY POINTS IN THE SPLIT PIVOT SYSTEM Anti-Squat Lynx offers a drastic improvement in anti-bobbing, which is minimal, and an accelerating efficiency that is superior to that of other models. Braking-Squat In the Lynx, braking does not affect the distance covered by the rear wheel because suspension remains continually active when braking. There is improved grip when braking, thus offering the rider increased confidence. Leverage Ratio The Split Pivot suspension controls the acceleration and braking processes instead of the shock-absorber, offering a much more progressive Leverage Ratio. Amortiguador Flotante The shock-absorber is maintained in a floating position and moves when the suspension is in operation. This permits the desired progressiveness and achieves the desired suspension curve. Lynx bikes need less platform in the shock-absorber since the Split Pivot notably improves the bicycle s behaviour in small pot holes thanks to absorption properties in the areas where increased support is necessary without creating a rocking effect, offering the cyclist the needed range.

The design of the frame is slightly sloped that guarantee safety for the rider and for ergonomics. Its semi-sloping geometry makes the centre of gravity lower and its rear triangle of only 460 mm guarantees reaction capability, which gives the rider more stability. In the design and construction of the Quartz range, BH has opted for a reactive, lighter frame that provides maximum performance without losing stability and increased safety. Quartz is a monocoque frame made entirely of carbon fibre using internal moulding technology, like the G7 and Ultralight models. When it came to designing the Gravel X, the idea was clear cut: to create a frame that takes you where nobody has ventured, whilst offering real fun and inspiring confidence and security as a bike on which you can clock up the kilometres on a whole range of surfaces. It is a minimalist bike, radically sporty, demanding of the rider and born for competition and scaling mountain passes. BB386 EVO 86,5 CM Larger diameter without increasing the weight for greater torsional rigidity of up to 166% and rear rigidity of up to 125% The bottom bracket of the Ultralight utilizes the BB386EVO architecture and measures 86.5 mm in overall width. This new bottom bracket design offers the Ultralight frame a greater surface area for improved lateral frame stiffness. The BH designers were able to increase the cross sectional areas of the tubing while reducing overall wall thickness, thus increasing the torsional stiffness in the bottom bracket. The result is increased lateral frame stiffness, improved efficiency and total control with every turn of the pedals. This new design has enabled BH to increase the size of the down WIDENED SEATPOST TUBE. AT THE HEIGHT OF THE BOTTOM BRACKET 80 MM tubes diameter, thus reducing the thickness of the walls and increasing the torsion stiffness by 166% and the rear stiffness by 125%. As a result, the cyclist may place more demands on the frame, particularly when going uphill, putting all of his/her effort into speed and power. 32 1 ROADAERO 28 SYLVIAN CHAVANEL DIRECT ENERGIE TEAM G7 DISC The objective for the G7 Disc was to maximize performance and rigidness of the frame at the same time as including disc brakes. It has been developed combining computer analysis derived from tests performed in a wind tunnel and fluid dynamic tests performed by computer. This results in a frame with an innovative aerodynamic silhouette integrating disc brakes into the same aerodynamic. It incorporates a BB386 bottom bracket proving a large space between the stays and giving the rear triangle high levels of rigidity and compliance. The seatpost, the seat casing have been integrated into the frame. The steering-post made form carbon incorporates the bearings integrated into a unique design. COMPUTER ANALYSES The optimal geometry of the rear triangle have been identified using the analysis of fluids on the frame. Because the brake is no longer situated in this area the R&D team has been able to find a much more aerodynamic and innovative transversal section. OPTIMAL COMBINATION OF CARBON FIBRE HCIM-Hollow Core Internal Moulding technology was used to obtain a light, rigid, sensitive and reactive frame When designing the G7 Disc, the aim was to achieve an ultralight, rigid, sensitive and reactive frame. COMPUTER ANALYSES - WIND TUNNEL AND FLUID DYNAMICS An aerodynamic and innovative cross section that identifies the optimal geometry of the rear triangle To optimize aerodynamics to maximum levels and based on the G6 Pro frame, the R&D team identified the transversal sections of the frame that had the best fluid dynamics results and used them to strengthen them as much as possible in the new G7 Disc frame. OPTIMISED REAR TRIANGLE AERO ASYMMETRICAL CHAINSTAY DESIGN FOR MAXIMUM LATERAL STIFFNESS OF THE REAR TRIANGLE FLAT MOUNT SHIMANO Rear triangle designed specifically to react to the new forces that intervene in disc braking The incorporation of a 140 mm disc brake at the front and rear, with Shimano Flat Mount technology has been a fundamental difference in the design of the frame. The rear part of the frame has been completely redesigned to support the forces and tensions produced by the new anchoring of the disc brakes that are completely different to those produced by conventional brakes. SLOPING GEOMETRY Narrower, shorter and asymmetrical stays for improved pedalling performance The G7 Disc geometry is the same as the G6 Pro sloping geometry, an elevated steering tube, short rear triangle with an altered seat tube that places the gravity centre much lower and allows optimal manoeuvrability. 52 1 ROADENDURACE 48 QUARTZ Quartz is a monocoque carbon frame that uses Hollow Core Internal Moulding technology, like the BH top-of-the-range road frames. Made entirely of carbon fibre and using the internal moulding technique for the frame to control and optimise the ideal thicknesses of the various parts of the frame. In the design and construction of the Quartz range, BH has opted for a reactive, lighter frame that provides maximum performance without losing stability and increased safety. BB386 EVO 86,5 MM CARBON MONOCOQUE CONSTRUCTION 950 grams* in an aerodynamic design providing a high level of rigidity and lightness, with optimal vertical performance Quartz is a monocoque frame made entirely of carbon fibre using internal moulding technology, like the G7 and Ultralight models. This innovative technology allows control and optimisation of the ideal thicknesses of the various frame parts, applying the most suitable carbon fibre and minimising overlap. The result is a spectacular design that is aerodynamic, extremely rigid and lightweight and provides optimal vertical absorption properties. The rear chainstay design is asymmetrical, as in the other BH top of the line frames, in order to increase the lateral stiffness of the frame and to allow installation of wider wheel designs. BB386 EVO BOTTOM BRACKET The bottom bracket is oversized by up to 86 mm, increasing torsional and rear rigidity The BB386 EVO bottom bracket, an innovation co-developed by BH in collaboration with FSA, incorporates an overall bottom bracket width of 86.5 mm. This optimized bottom bracket design allows the frame builder to increase overall frame stiffness while increasing rear tire clearance required of wider wheel designs. Using this system, BH has increase the torsion stiffness in the bottom bracket of the Quartz resulting in increased rider efficiency. The result is improved lateral stiffness, greater stability and increased control with each turn of the pedals MM SEAT POST A lightweight design that provides additional rider comfort The Quartz seat post is only 27.2 mm in diameter, similar to that used on the Ultralight model. This design offers additional weight savings to the overall frame while adding greater vertical compliancy. Di2 INTEGRATED INTO THE SEATPOST For a clean and streamlined design The seatpost interior has been adapted to incorporate a Di2 battery without it being visible from the outside. SEMI-SLOPING GEOMETRICS Rear triangle of 406 mm with a centre of gravity that guarantees the best reaction and maximum stability The design of the frame is slightly sloped that guarantee safety for the rider and for ergonomics. 70 1 TRIATHLON 66 AEROLIGHT ENEKO LLANOS BH TRIATHLON TEAM The Aerolight is the ideal bicycle for top triathletes. It is a bike designed to slice the wind, reach top speeds, explode across the flats and make the differences in uphill climbs. The Aerolight is also very lightweight, barely reaching 8 kg in the top-of-the-range model. The new Aerolight maintains the 380 mm of the rear stays, which significantly increases rider reactivity and explosivity when in motion. ERGONOMICS Analyses were carried out on all cross sections to maximise aerodynamics without altering rigidity The Aerolight frame has been manufactured in accordance with the principles of the other top BH frames, such as the Ultralight and G6 models. In building the Aerolight frame, a number of innovative technologies have been implemented into the overall development process in order to control and optimize the ideal carbon wall thicknesses for the different locations within the frame. Also the most appropriate carbon layups are developed and then applied to a minimal carbon layer molding technique in order to ensure extreme rigidity in a lightweight frame design. This proprietary manufacturing process uses a combination of high and medium modulus materials in order to attain the high standards demanded by BH. Formulas were applied and analyses and tests carried out on all cross sections of the Aerolight tube to maximise the aerodynamics of the frame without affecting its rigidity. Its spectacular and efficient aerodynamic design achieves optimal air penetration and the most efficient biomechanical position. FRONT TRIANGLE FOR PERFECT COUPLING Kamm-Tail design The front brake was integrated to achieve a clean, flat and more aerodynamic surface. The reduced size head tube means that the fork and down tube surround the front wheel for perfect coupling. KAMM-TAIL DESIGN Tube Kammtail Late separation The front brake has been hidden to create a more aerodynamic surface.
