1 Sportsman Sprint Car Rule book 2013 Castrol Raceway. DISCLAIMER The rules and regulations set forth are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events and by participation in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. The minimum requirements set forth may change at the discretion of the management of Castrol Raceway. No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from publication of or compliance with these rules and/or regulations. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and in no way guarantee against injury or death to a participant, or any other individuals that enter the property. RACING IS A DANGEROUS SPORT. PARTICIPANTS AND ALL OTHERS THAT ENTER CASTROL RACEWAY PROPERTY CAN BE SUBJECTED TO INJURY OR DEATH. YOU ASSUME YOUR OWN RISK AND RESPONSIBILITY WHILE ON CASTROL RACEWAY PROPERTY. CASTROL RACEWAY RULES COMMON SENSE AND THE SPIRIT OF INTENT WILL PREVAIL ON THE INTERPRETATION OF ALL RULES. 1. Entry Participation The management of Castrol Raceway reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone at anytime for any reason. 2. General Rules 2.1 All participants and individuals shall abide by and obey all rules and regulations. 2.2 All participants and individuals are responsible for their own personal conduct. The car owner(s)are responsible for their driver s and crew member s conduct at all times. 2.3 Drivers must exercise care to avoid injury to track workers, officials, spectators and other individuals when operating a race car.

2 2.4 All fines must be paid prior to the individual(s) returning to Castrol Raceway. Fines may be deducted from team earnings in which the violator is associated with. 2.5 No switching of numbers or qualified cars after race program has started. 2.6 If a spare car is to be used once the program has started, it must not have been qualified previously that night and will start in the rear of the qualified field. 2.7 Cars must be neat in appearance. No graphic, obscene or offensive images allowed. 2.8 Numbers for scoring should be 16 tall and if a letter is added it should be 6 tall. 2.9 Car owners or drivers that refuse an inspection on any item will be considered illegal Cars that are illegal will be disqualified for events participated in that night Illegal engines will result in a fine of up to $1, and loss of all points to date Engines that pump big will have the option to tear down for cubic inch verification Management reserves the right to check any cars for rule compliance at anytime In order to protest a competitor s motor, protestor s car must have finished in the same race as the protested car. Protester must put in writing, before pay off what area is being protested and accompany it with $ cash. If protested car is illegal, $ will be returned to protestor. If protested car is legal, $ will be awarded to said car for reassembly inconvenience. The balance will pay the technicians All other protests must be in writing by affected car owner from same event Castrol Raceway management reserves the right to add, delete or modify any and all rules at any time to ensure a fair and competitive venue for all competitors. 3. Participants Participants are individuals who are admitted to the restricted area. 4. Areas of Castrol Raceway to which rules apply 4.1 Restricted area: All of the facility which is within the fences that surround the actual racing surface, pit areas and trailer parking lot.

3 4.2 Pit area: All of the facility which is within the fences that surround the actual racing surface, within which the race vehicles are held and maintained while not on the racing surface. 4.3 Grandstand area/general parking area: Grandstands and the concession area as well as area used for spectator and employee parking during events. 4.4 Overnight parking area: Those areas reserved for campers and R/ V s and other overnight use. 5. Age Restriction All drivers should be at least Sixteen (16) years of age. All others admitted to the restricted area must be at least fourteen (14) years of age. Individuals under the age of eighteen (18) must have a signed, notarized consent form from both parents or legal guardian on a form supplied by Castrol Raceway. All drivers must posses a valid drivers license and/or learner permit. 6. Alcohol Possession and or consumption of alcoholic beverages prior to or during an event are strictly prohibited. Persons under the influence of alcoholic beverages in the restricted areas may be fined up to $ and denied access to the restricted area. 7. Illegal Drugs The use, possession, sale or transfer of illegal drugs on Castrol Raceway property is strictly prohibited. Violators will be reported to police and denied access to the entire Castrol Raceway property. 8. Prescription Drugs Any participant using over the counter medication or medication prescribed to them by a physician that may restrict or impair their ability to perform a task should not attempt to perform the task. 9. Unsportsmanlike conduct 9.1 Any physical, verbal or written misconduct which the track management deems detrimental or that distracts from the orderly and peaceful conduct of the racing at Castrol Raceway is strictly prohibited. Violators may be fined a minimum $ and may be denied access to the restricted area for a minimum of two weeks.

4 9.2 If the misconduct is directed toward Castrol Raceway management, officials, track workers, employees or volunteers, the person(s) involved with the violation may be immediately removed and denied access to Castrol Raceway. A minimum fine of $ and suspension may be imposed. 9.3 No individuals shall use loud and/or abusive language in addressing track management or officials. Violators may be fined a minimum of $ and possible suspension. 9.4 All fines levied against an individual or team may be withheld from car earnings. 10. Unspecified Violations The track management and officials may impose such penalties as they find appropriate for the situation. The decision of the management and officials shall be final. 11. Packing the Track 11.1 All persons packing the track must sign in at the pit gate as a driver All persons packing the track must follow packing directions from track workers. 12. Racing Rules 12.1 Pit speed limit is 10 miles per hour All cars returning to the pit area under power must use designated pit entrance In the event a race is cancelled after 50% completion, it will be scored completed All cars receive one push off per event. If a second push off is needed, the car must start at the rear of the lineup. Red flag and safety stops excluded. All safety stops should be on the front chute at the flag stand area Any qualified car that did not start at the original start of the event and was not replaced by an alternate car may join the event at the rear on the next race stoppage Drivers causing two stoppages in a single event will be disqualified for event. 13. Flags 13.1 Green Flag The green flag will indicate the start or restart of an event. After the cars are lined up in the correct order, the (yellow) traffic lights will be turned off; this indicates the race will start on the next exit out of turn four.

5 In the event of a false or poor start, the yellow caution light will come on as the leaders reach the backstretch. The start will then be reattempted If one or both front row starters jump the start, they will be moved back a row for the next start Any car(s) advancing positions before the start or before the cone on a restart will be penalized two positions for each position gained. Penalty will be assessed at the next race stoppage or end of the event Any driver that hits the cone on a restart will be put to the back two positions unless the driver is avoiding a collision. A second infraction will result in disqualification. If a driver is alongside the car in front of him at the cone he must let the car back in front of him before the exit of turn 2 or be penalized for jumping Restarts after one lap is completed will be single file. No gapping or passing before you pass the cone White Flag The white flag indicates one lap remaining in the event Should the race be stopped on the last lap, the restart will consist of a green, white and then checkered Black and White Checkered flag A checkered flag will indicate the end of an event If the leader receives the checkered flag and the race is stopped before all cars cross the finish line, the race will be scored complete. The cars crossing the finish line before the stoppage will be scored accordingly, the remaining cars will be scored as they had completed the previous lap. Cars involved in the stoppage will be scored last on their respective lap Yellow Flag A yellow flag condition is considered a race stoppage. Cars will slow to a pre-race speed and maintain a single file line. Cars out of position will be advised by track officials and / or over the Raceiver frequency where to line up If a pace truck is on the track, no cars are allowed to pass it without permission. Violators will be sent to the rear of the field or disqualified Cars entering the work area during a yellow flag condition, that complete the work before the race is ready to resume will be allowed to restart at the rear of the lineup. Lineup will be in the order they return to the track Cars involved in the race stoppage that go to the work area will be given the time it takes the pace truck to complete two laps past the flagman to make repairs. The laps begin when the last car arrives in the work area. Lineup will be in the order they return to the track.

6 13.5 Red Flag A red flag condition is considered a race stoppage. Cars that blatantly drive past the crash scene will be penalized or disqualified Cars stopping must stay off the inner apron and not block openings where emergency personnel or support vehicles respond from Cars entering the work area during a red flag condition that complete the work before the race is ready to resume will be allowed to restart at the rear of the lineup. Lineup will be in the order they return to the track Under red flag conditions: On a Closed Red, two (2) crewmen can attend to the driver, scrape mud off car and back down engines. NO other work may be performed on the car. Violation will result in a disqualification On an Open Red, The crew may work on the car on the track. If a tire is changed, the car must restart at the rear of the line up in front of any cars that went to the work area If fuel is added, the crew must have a manned fire extinguisher at the car and use an anti-slosh funnel. Violation of this will result in disqualification If a car is involved in an accident, only emergency personnel are allowed at the car until the driver has vacated Persons not directly involved with the car(s) involved in the accident must stay back. Violation of this will result in a fine When the Clear the Track command is given, all personnel must leave the track in a timely manner. Violation of this will result in the car being penalized to the rear of the line up or disqualification Black Flag If a driver receives a black flag during an event, driver must enter work area for explanation. If driver does not go to work area, he will not be scored past that point Drivers that are black flagged for mechanical or safety reasons may return to the event once repairs are made and the track is open If a driver is black flagged and stops to create an intentional yellow, driver is subject to a penalty or fine A furled black flag will be a warning against on-track violations Re Entry No cars are allowed to enter the racing area after the track and / or pace truck caution lights are turned off.

7 2013 ALBERTA SPORTSMAN SPRINT RULES 1. ROLL CAGE Roll cage must be constructed from 4130 condition N seamless steel tubing, top rails min. 1.5 outside diameter x.095 wall. Bottom rails 1.5 outside diameter x.083 wall or outside diameter x.095 wall, upper rails and uprights outside diameter x.083 wall. Side and Halo bars recommended. Required rear end protection bar under rear of seat. 2. FRAMES & COMPONENTS No aluminum frames, 4130 construction only. No titanium products, parts or components allowed anywhere on the race car. No gun-drilled, tubular or hollow bolts or studs allowed anywhere on car. Minimum wheelbase of 84 inches. 3. STEERING WHEEL Steering wheel must be quick disconnect (no pip pins). 4. KNEE GUARDS Knee guards are required. 5. SEAT Seat must be aluminum high back seat. The Hans or equivalent device is highly recommended. 6. BUMPERS Steel rear bumpers and nerf bars (rub rails) are mandatory. 7. SAFETY A five or six point SFI 16.1 competition shoulder harness with lap belt and sub-strap mandatory. Arm restraints are highly recommended. Seat belts recommended being not more than one year old, must be dated within two years. Fire retardant gloves, shoes, socks and hood are mandatory. Fire retardant underwear is mandatory if using SFI spec 3.2 A-1 suit. Recommended 3 layer SFI rated suit. No single layer suit. Helmets are required and must be Snell full face SA2005 or SA Helmet must be worn at all times that the car is on track and must accompany the vehicle at time of inspection. Roll cage net on right side mandatory, unless full containment seat is in place. Rock screen recommended. Drive shaft must be fully enclosed by torque tube. Safety hoop must be attached to the chassis below the

8 forward edge of the seat around the torque tube. Drag link tether strap required. 8. ELECTRONICS Memory Tachometer, Race Transponder required ( You may own your transponder AMB X260 or rent one from the track), Raceiver radio and video camera are the only electronics devices allowed on the car. No traction control of any kind. 9. MIRRORS No mirrors allowed. 10. FUEL SYSTEM (A) A racing fuel cell with bladder is required. Check valve required. Fuel shut off valve recommended at fuel cell outlet.(b) Alcohol or ethanol. No gasoline allowed. 11. MUFFLERS. Mufflers are required at Castrol Raceway, maximum 100 DBA at 100 ft. 12. WEIGHT JACKS No in-cockpit adjustable torsion bars or weight jackers allowed. 13. WEIGHT Weight Rule: Weight rule is 1600 lbs., including the driver, at the conclusion of the race. Any bolt-on weight must be painted white and the car number must be on the weight. Loss of any bolt-on weight during competition will disqualify the individual from the event. Bolt-on weight can only be added in the areas designated in the accompanying diagram. The weight must be securely attached and must remain in place during a race. It must not be moved or removed during a red flag situation. We reserve the right to disqualify any individual whose weight mounting procedure does not meet our specifications. (see illustration)

9 14. TIRES AND WHEELS Right rear is to be any brand with a durameter reading of 40 and higher at the end of the feature, maximum of 18 tread width. All tires may be of any brand (Goodyear, Hoosier, American Racer, etc). (C) Wheels No plastic or carbon fiber wheels, bead locks are mandatory on RR outboard minimum. (The tire rule will be reviewed mid season) 15. SUSPENSION No cockpit adjustable shock absorbers allowed. Left rear may be the only adjustable shock. The two fronts and right rear shock to be a maximum value of $ USD each, as advertised by manufactures SRP. 16. BRAKES Minimum LF and rear inboard workable brakes. No carbon fibre brake components allowed. 17. BODIES Must be of sprint car design. Full-length hood is recommended. No carbon fibre body panels allowed. 18. DRIVELINE In - out box, slider driveline, shifter rear end or Bert Sprint transmission required or approved driveline.

10 19. WINGS * NOTE: NO COCKPIT ADJUSTABLE WING SLIDERS A. Top wing mandatory, maximum of 25 square feet. Maximum center foil width 60 inches. The deepest point allowed in the top surface of the wing will be 2 ½ inches. No Wicker Bills or Gurney Lips allowed on center foil. The 12 inch section located at the rear of the center foil must not have the belly/curl arc out of proportion with the rest of the center foil. Belly/curl arc must span the entire length of the center foil and appear to be a gradual arc with the deepest point no further back than 48 inches from the leading edge. The belly/curl arc must start at the center foil s leading edge and shall not exceed a depth of 2 ½ inches. Top surface of the wing measuring crosswise must be flat. B. Wicker Bills or Gurney Lips allowed on flat top wing only A maximum 1 removable wicker bill may be mounted on the rear edge of the center foil. Wicker bill must be 90 degrees to the top of the center foil. Built-in wicker bills or gurney lips will not be permitted. Same size as the top wing in 19 A section C. The side panel maximum is 72 long by 30 wide. Side panels attached to the wing must be fabricated flat at 90 degrees, as to have no turnouts or flaps made of more than two inches of material on the front or rear panel and no more than 1 ¼ inches on the top or bottom sideboard. The panels must run parallel. All top and front wings must be fabricated of metal alloys only. No fiberglass, carbon fiber or other similar materials

11 may be used in the basic framework (center foil and side panel) of the wing. D. Center foil must be one piece and square to the side panel. No split wings or bi-wings. Top wings must not extend beyond outside of rear tires. No rudders anywhere on top wing E. Nose wing optional, if used maximum (6) square feet. No Wicker Bills or Gurney Lips allowed on center foil. The front wing may not be cockpit or driver adjustable. F. Wing caps, plastic or carbon fiber allowed. 20. ENGINE No turbo or superchargers allowed. Any General Motors, Ford, or Chrysler steel block push rod V-8 automotive engine. A. BLOCK, CRANKSHAFT and RODS Engine must have a stock steel OEM block, Dart # , World #084010, GM # or GM # no lightening anywhere on the block. General Motors and Ford limited to maximum displacement of 360 CID + or -1%. Chrysler limited to maximum of 364 CID. Maximum bore allowed is over stock. Highly recommend that frost plugs be pinned, (screwed or tack welded). Crankshaft and connecting rods must be steel. Stock type aftermarket crankshafts are allowed. Min weight is 47lbs. No modifications to crankshaft counterweights allowed except for balancing purposes. (No knife edging). No Stroker Crankshafts. No Pendulum cut counterweights. (No Scalloping). No titanium components allowed anywhere in the engine. No GM LS style engines. B. CYLINDER HEADS Cast iron cylinder heads only. No billet heads. No CNC porting. All cylinder heads and valve angles must remain within 1 degree of the original manufacturing (example: Chevy valve angle is 23 degrees, no other than 23 degree valve angle heads are allowed for Chevy motors). After-market heads allowed. Angle milling prohibited. Heads limited to two valve per cylinder in stock OEM location only, 11/32 valve stem minimum diameter. Steel valve spring retainers and locks only. Must retain stock spark plug location. Guide plates and screw-in studs permitted. Must use only spec Comp Cams #982 single valve springs, as is from Comp Cams no modification allowed. This spring forces you to use approximately.500 camshaft lift which is one of the important

12 ways of limiting these engines, otherwise you will get into coil bind. Valve spring dampers not permitted. Roller rockers permitted but no shaft style rockers allowed, except one single shaft per head on Chrysler only. Hydraulic or mechanical flat tappet camshaft allowed. No roller cams and no rev kits allowed. Original manufacturers stock lifter diameter. No mushroom or Schubeck style lifters allowed. C. FUEL INJECTION Mechanical fuel injection systems must be configured of one individual stack per cylinder with a maximum of 8 injector nozzles of 3 ½ maximum length. No nozzles permitted in the heads. Injector stack must measure 1 7/8 ID or less. Larger injectors must use stack sleeved down to 1 7/8 with a minimum of 3 inches restriction length. No rotary injection system. D. OILING SYSTEM Only wet sump-oiling systems allowed. A minimum one-inch pipe plug must be installed in the left side of the oil pan for crankshaft inspection (Not to be installed by the main caps). Accumulators are optional. No external oil pumps allowed. No vacuum pumps allowed. No pan-evac system. No dry sump-oiling systems allowed. E. IGNITION SYSTEM Only Vertex, Mallory, or comparable magnetos permitted. No MSD magnetos allowed. No MSD or electronic ignition allowed. F. FUEL Only methanol or ethanol fuel can be used. No gasoline or nitrous. No fuel enhancement allowed. Technical inspection It is at the discretion of the technical inspector to enforce and interpret the rules. Minor infraction: Has to be changed for next race (Example: no knee pads). Intentional infraction: Back of the pack all evening, no points and no payout. Must be changed for next race. (Example: titanium king pins). Major infraction: You are not racing that evening. No gate refund. Must be changed for next race. (Example: Schubeck lifters)
