NASCAR CHASE FOR THE NASCAR SPRINT CUP KICKS INTO HIGH GEAR THIS WEEKEND AT MARTINSVILLE Momentum continues to build in the new NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES playoff format this week at Martinsville Speedway, as eight drivers begin anew their quest to claim the 2014 championship. The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup field was whittled by four drivers and reset after last weekend s stop at Talladega Superspeedway. Talladega lived up to its billing, eliminating Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kasey Kahne and six-time and defending champion Jimmie Johnson from the Chase. The eight drivers who advance to the third round start with a clean slate at Martinsville include Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon and Brad Keselowski. LARRY MCREYNOLDS THINKS BRAD KESELOWSKI IS THE FAVORITE TO WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP I don t know how he can t be the favorite. He has won six races, which is more than any other driver. Look at the next three tracks, which are completely different from each other. I m not sure we know what Keselowski had at Martinsville in the spring because he had a big wreck on pit road (with Kurt Busch). But Team Penske tested at Martinsville. They didn t run that well at Texas, but Keselowski s teammate, Joey Logano, won at Texas. Keselowski sat on the pole and finished third at Phoenix in the spring, and Phoenix is more what I m looking at (for a gauge of Martinsville). He definitely will be a player, and he will move over to the Championship Round. MCREYNOLDS SAYS LOGANO, HARVICK, KESELOWSKI AND GORDON WILL ADVANCE TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND I think Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski and Jeff Gordon move on to the Championship Round at Homestead. These four drivers account for 18 wins in The other four in the Eliminator Round Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth and Denny Hamlin only account for three wins, and Newman and Kenseth are winless. And of the three races in the Eliminator Round, Joey Logano has won at Texas, Kevin Harvick won Phoenix, and Brad Keselowski has had a good run at Phoenix. Logano, Harvick, Keselowski and Gordon will be going after the championship.
