3 2019 High Level Political Forum: Context In 2019, HLPF undertakes annual thematic reviews of: SDG 4 (Education) SDG 8 (Decent work and growth) SDG 10 (Inequality) SDG 13 (Climate change) SDG 16 (Peace and justice) + SDG 17 (partnerships) Key inputs into the process: Voluntary national reviews Regional commissions ECOSOC commissions + other intergovernmental bodies e.g. SDG Education 2030 Steering Committee Background notes by UN system on goals under review UNSG Annual Progress Report on SDGs

4 HLPF schedule Week 1 Thematic reviews (days 1-3 pm); Individual SDGs (días 2-4 am): Week 2 Voluntary national reviews (first half) Discussion and declaration (second half) + Parallel events September United Nations General Assembly

5 Special publication for 2019 HLPF Rationale 2019 HLPF halfway between 2019 and 2020 GEM Reports HLPF takes stock of SDG 4 every four years; this requires a different approach than the annual GEM Report format Complementary to other SDG 4 publications in 2019 HLPF Not quantitative = role played by SDG Report Qualitative: time to reflect on SDG 4 Not reporting upwards = role played by SC Report Feedback to countries: sharing positive examples

Analysis of voluntary nationales reviews (VNR) 2. Questionnaire on SDG 4 perceptions and priorities Present new education policies / programs: good practices Share updated information on SDG 4 coordination Show shared understanding on what is unique about SDG 4
