Bids by phone, fax (signed), and mail will be accepted until 7pm Pacific Time on Friday, December 6, Bids by will get a notification of receipt only by us. Bidding by phone will stop 15 minutes after the last call past 7pm. All phone bids must be confirmed in writing. Bids are accepted by lot number only. In the case of tie bids, the first received is normally given preference. Bids higher than estimate are reduced to 10% above the second highest bid. Bids under estimate are not reduced further. 2. We reserve the right to reject what we consider frivolous bids. 3. In case of a photo error only the written text is valid. 4. This sale is not an approval sale. All items offered are guaranteed genuine and as described. Cataloguing errors will be promptly corrected. All claims for adjustments must be made within 5 days of receipt but in no case later than 60 days after the auction date. No returns are permitted for any reason 60 days after the auction. 5. A 15% buyer s charge will be added to the successful bid price of each lot. There is no additional charge or commission for executing your bids. Postage, handling and insurance fees are added to all invoices. A $1.00 handling charge per lot will be added to bulky lots as books, large plates, documents, up to a maximum of $15.00 per invoice. Overseas bidders must supply fully detailed shipping instructions before shipment is made. Lots will be sent overseas only at the risk of the purchaser. Insurance is available upon request. 6. Payment is due upon receipt of invoice unless prior payment arrangements have been made with the auctioneer in writing. No lots are delivered without full payment of invoice. 1.5% monthly interest is charged on all accounts 30 days past due calculated from the sale date. 7. Payment must be made in U.S. Funds. Payment from overseas must be made in U.S. Dollars by a check drawn on a U.S. Bank, or a wire transfer to our bank account. We also accept payment by credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover. A 2.5% service fee (3% overseas) is added when using credit cards. 8. Title to all lots remains with the auctioneer until full payment is received. 9. Estimates are given for guidance only. Lots may sell higher or lower. Generally, bids below 80% of estimate will not be accepted. 10. No bids from minors are accepted. 11. 7 TORCHES OF THE SUMMER GAMES 54. Berlin 1936 Official Torch. Steel, 27cm high (10.5 ), made by Krupp Factory, designed by Carl Diem. Carried during the first torch relay from Olympia, Greece to Berlin, a distance of 3075 km in 12 days. EF. Scarce in this condition. ($3,750) 55. Berlin 1936 Torch Made in 1972 for the Munich Olympic Games as Official Presentation Torch. Steel, 27.2cm (10.7 ) tall, foot 6mm tall. Route of torch run from Olympia to Berlin on shaft, legend on top. Only a small number was made in EF, lt. wear. ($750) 56. London 1948 Official Torch. Aluminum alloy, 47cm (18.5 ). Cut-out rings over London Olympiad legend at top. Magnesiumbased fuel gave the torch a bright flame. VF-EF. ($4,500) 57. Rome 1960 Official Torch. Bronzed aluminum. 39.5cm (15.5 ). Designed by Professor Maiure and his team from the National Museum of Archeology in Naples. The design is based on drawings of torches on ancient ceramics. EF. ($5,000) 57a. Rome 1960 Official Torch. As preceding torch but VF-EF. Small hole for wall display on back of lower handle. ($3,750) 58. Tokyo 1964 Official Torch. The bowl is made of blackened aluminum alloy. The cylinder is clad with stainless steel, length 64.8cm (25.5 ). Bowl is inscribed XVII Olympiad Tokyo 1964 and Olympic rings. EF. The bottom of the cylinder features the Tokyo official logo. EF. ($5,500) 59. Mexico 1968 Official Black Torch. Black painted aluminum, part of shaft made of wood, 52.3cm (20.9 ). Silver colored doves around top. The black torch was used in the torch run from Olympia to Athens, Greece. EF, in pictorial container. ($2,200) 60. Mexico 1968 Official White Metal Torch with White Linen. Cast white metal, 44cm (17.3 ) tall, MEXICO and logo around top, white linen wrapped around lower part. Used in the torch run in Mexico. Lt. wear. ($2,500) 61. Mexico City 1968 Official White Metal Torch. Cast WM, 44cm (17.7 ) tall. MEXICO and logo around top. Used in the torch relay in Mexico. Toned EF. ($2,250) 62. Mexico City 1968 Official Silver Torch. Silver color, part of shaft made of wood, 53cm (21 ) high. Circle of doves around top. Used in the torch relay in Mexico Lt. wear. ($2,250) 63. Munich 1972 Official Torch. Steel, 73cm (28.8 ). The fire was lit in Olympia, Greece on July 28 and carried 5539 km in 29 days to Munich by 5976 runners. EF, lt. wear. ($1,650) 64. Montreal 1976 Official Torch. Aluminum, 66cm (30 ) tall. Stem painted red, with Montreal logo, top painted black. Designed by George Huel and Michael Dall. The flame was carried from Olympia, Greece to Athens where it was transferred by satellite to Ottawa; 245 runners carried it to Montreal. EF. ($3,250) 65. Moscow 1980 Official Torch. Aluminum alloy, gray and gold. Moscow logo and legend in red, 56.1cm (22-1/2 ) long. Designed by Boris Tuchin. Runners carried the torch during the 30-day torch relay from Olympia, Greece through Bulgaria and Romania to Moscow, a distance of 4976 km. EF, lt. wear. ($1,500) 66. Moscow 1980 Official Torch. As preceding torch but used in the torch run and ltly. discolored by the flame around the top. ($1,250)

8 Los Angeles 1984 Official Torch. Brass-finished aluminum with tan leather handle. Bowl portrays Olympic rings, motto and L.A. Memorial Coliseum Stadium. Flame lit in Olympia, Greece on May 7, 1984, and it arrived in New York the following day. It took 82 days to carry the flame through 33 states, 9,375 miles, to Los Angeles. EF, in original black leather pouch. ($2,500) 68. Seoul 1988 Official Torch. Brass, 50cm (20 ), with tan leather handle, designed by Lee Woo-Sing. Bowl depicts dragons, Seoul Olympic logo enameled in color below. EF. ($3,250) 69. Seoul 1988 Official Torch in Smaller Size. As preceding torch but only 41.7cm (16.4 ) tall. EF. ($1,900) 70. Barcelona 1992 Official Torch. Chrome-plated aluminum, 65cm (23.6 ) tall, designed by André Rich. XXV Olympiad Barcelona 1992 legend and Barcelona emblem goldplated on stem. EF, scs. on leather part. Aluminum and Georgia pecan wood, 80cm (31.5 ) length, designed by Peter Mastrogiannis. 22 reeds represent the cities where Olympic games were held since Gathered by 2 goldplated brass bands, the top band displays the Atlanta torch logo and the quilt of leaves design, the bottom band lists all Olympic cities since The wooden pecan handle represents the connection of the flame between heaven and earth. The flame was lit in Olympia. It reached Los Angeles on April 27 and ended 84 days later in Atlanta carried by 10,000 relay runners, horses, bicycles, trains, ships, and hydroplanes. EF. Three layers consisting of polished stainless steel, anodized aluminum and coated aluminum, 77cm (30.5 ), designed by Blue Sky Design, Sydney, manufactured by G.A. & L. Harrington. The three layers represent earth, fire and water. EF. ($2,250) 74. Sydney 2000 Official Commemorative Torch. Officially sanctioned by the IOC to be sold in a limited number to the public. They sold out quickly. Center part open to show burning unit inside. Mounted with descriptive background to be displayed on the wall, 53x86cm (21 x34 ). Mint. ($2,250) 79 TORCHES OF THE OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES 75. Innsbruck 1976 Official Winter Torch. Silvered, 74.6cm (29.4 ), designed by Vereinigte Metallwerke, Rantshofen. The torch design includes a ski jump. Less than 100 made. VF-EF. Rare torch. ($5,500) 76. Sarajevo 1984 Official Winter Torch. Carried in the official torch run from Olympia, Greece to Sarajevo. Stainless steel cylinder in silver-colored aluminum alloy, bowl gold colored with Sarajevo 84 legend. Length 57.5cm, weight 680 grams. Manufactured by Nippon K. under the supervision of Mizuno Corp. Cylinder darkened from flame, burnt at top, bowl EF. Rare torch from the Sarajevo Games. With original Mizuno display stand. ($5,750) 77. Lillehammer 1994 Winter Souvenir Torch. 60cm (23.8 ), wood and metal engraved with 6 winter events. Accompanied by wooden display stand, 31cm (12.2 ) tall featuring Lillehammer logo and torch runner. EF. In original pictorial box. ($250) c78. Nagano 1998 Official Winter Torch. Aluminum, partially gilt, 55cm (21.7 ) long, weight 1.5kg (3.3 pounds). Designed after ancient Japanese torches called Taimatsu. It shows the Nagano emblem and sports pictograms. A brightly colored cord wrapped around the lower part forms the grip. Fueled with clean burning propane, it burnt for about 20 minutes. The torch relay in Japan took part from January 6 until February 7, when the Olympic fire was lit during the opening ceremony. Shaped like a fiery icicle in motion, the polished silver colored bottom bears the motto light the fire within ; center metal and glass top section in frozen flame texture with logo on metal part.
