Her score of was just 0.6 points a mere hair s breadth shy of the effort by gold medallist Sarah Hornung of Switzerland. As Martina said in her media interview after her YOG event: This YOG medal is so important to me and Singapore. I hope that it will inspire all young athletes in Singapore that we can make it if we try, and motivate more youths to take up competitive sport. I thank everyone who has believed in me and supported me the SNOC, SSA, the Sports School, my coach, my family and friends. I will celebrate today. Maybe tomorrow, too. Then it's back to the drawing board to prepare for the next competition. Jazreel Reels In The Most Medals Incheon 2014 Asian Games Posted: 20 October 2014 Courtesy of SportSG.
4 Jazreel Tan Shi Hua was both competitor and Singapore s Goodwill Ambassador to the Incheon 2014 Asian Games and she discharged both duties excellently, including bringing home 1 gold, 2 silvers and 1 bronze from her bowling events. Jazreel first won the Women s Singles silver medal before following it up with the Women s Trios silver medal with Cherie Tan and fellow Singapore Sports School alumnus New Hui Fen. The three then teamed up with Joey Yeo, Shayna Ng and a third alumnus, Daphne Tan Shi Jing, for the Women s Team of 5 gold medal. For her accumulated pinfalls in the Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team events, Jazreel won the Women s All-Events bronze medal. Singapore is one of only seven countries which has competed in all 17 editions of the Asian Games and the Women s Team of 5 gold medal was the first that Singapore had won in the Asiad. Jazreel s four-medal haul has placed her among the most bemedalled athletes at a single Asian Games in recent history, according to Singapore National Olympic Council. Andrew Paul Chan and the Men s sailing team also persevered to win the J80 Match Racing gold medal. Another sailing medal came from Cecilia Low Rui Qi, who had paired up with her sister Priscilla, for the Women s 29er silver. Tao Li won the Women s 50m Butterfly silver and 100m Butterfly bronze. Table tennis alumnus Isabelle Li, as a member of the Women s Team, won a bronze. Shooting staff Nigel Lim Swee Hon and his team won the Men 25m Standard Pistol Team bronze medal. Nigel also recorded a personal score in the Men s 50m Air Pistol. Among the Singapore athletes who did not medal, swimming alumni Clement Lim Yong En and Pang Sheng Jun, together with Danny Yeo and Teo Zhen Ren, rewrote the Men s 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay National Record when they completed the race in 7:25.46s. Clement also clocked a personal best in the Men s 100m Freestyle in 50.61s. Altogether, Singapore was represented by 223 athletes and brought home 5 golds, 6 silvers and 13 bronzes, of which Sports School alumni and staff won 2 golds, 4 silvers and 4 bronzes.

7 Nigel Pins On Perseverance For Pistol Medal Incheon 2014 Asian Games Posted: 26 September 2014 Nigel Lim Swee Hon (right) celebrating with his teammates. Competing against a world-class field of pistol shooters, Shooting Academy Coach Nigel Lim Swee Hon had a modest target at the Incheon 2014 Asian Games to qualify for the final in the Men s 50m Pistol Individual, which was his pet event. He had achieved just that when he shot a personal best score of 559 out of 600 to finish 6th in the qualifier and made it into the final, which took place on 20 September Unfortunately, a poor 7.3 in his 9th shot and a dismal 4.4 in his 11th saw him eliminated after 12 shots and placed 6th in the final. Nigel did not let the disappointment affect him as he still had other events to aim for. Picking himself up, Nigel set his target on doing well in his next event the Men s 25m Standard Pistol. I just wanted to do my best and achieve a new personal best. I believe the results will eventually come, said Nigel. On 25 September 2014, Nigel shot 563 out of 600 to finish 11th in the Men s 25m Standard Pistol Individual event. His score, together with those of teammates Gai Bin (567) and Poh Lip Meng (562), combined for a total score of 1,692, which was good enough to clinch bronze in the Team event, behind shooting powerhouses China (1,710) and South Korea (1,707). In the process, the trio made history by
8 becoming the first men to win a medal in the pistol event for Team Singapore in the Asiad. It took a while for reality to sink in as I was just focused on my game. But yes, it feels so good to be able to win a medal for Singapore at the Asian Games. This medal will give our Singapore shooters confidence and hopefully inspire them to podium finishes as well. Martina Guns Down Silver Medal Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games Posted: 19 August 2014 Shirley Tan-Oehler Senior Manager, Strategic Communications Martina Lindsay P Veloso finished second in the Women s 10m Air Rifle event on 19 August 2014 to become the first Singaporean to medal at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games. "I am absolutely thrilled. I can only compete in one edition of the YOG because I will outgrow the age cap in four years. I won't have a second chance, so this is a once in a lifetime experience and achievement, said the Secondary 3 studentathlete, in a post-event interview. Martina opened fire with a during qualification and followed it up with a 104.2, and to finish fourth (415.7) behind Sarah Hornung (416.4) from Switzerland, Najmeh Khedmati (416.3) from Iran and Julia Budde (416.1) from Germany. The other qualifiers represented Serbia, China, Mongolia and Croatia.
9 At the 11 am final, Swiss girl Sarah led from start to finish and completed her 20 shots with points. Martina finished with 207.2; only a marginal 0.6 points stood between her score and that of the gold medallist. The German shooter, Julia, completed the podium finish with points. The gold medallist She really deserved it. I m just glad that I did my best. I m very happy. I can t find any more words to describe how I feel right now. I know many Singaporeans had pinned their hopes on me to win a medal, so I felt some pressure. Throughout the competition, and all other competitions, my coach would remind me, One shot, one kill. So I gave 100 per cent to every shot. I m glad she s with me. This YOG medal is so important to me and Singapore. Then it's back to the drawing board to prepare for the next competition."

14 Martina is ST Star Of The Month Posted: 11 July 2014 National shooter Martina Lindsay P Veloso is ST Star of the Month (June 2014). The Award recognises Martina s achievement at the ISSF World Cup in Munich, Germany, on 8 June 2014, when she defeated some of the best shooters in the world to win the gold medal, including Czech Katerina Emmons, the 2008 Olympic gold medallist who holds both the World Record and Olympic Games Record, and Serbian Andrea Arsovic, the 2010 European Champion. At 14, Martina was one of the youngest participating athletes at the ISSF World Cup, and the only Singaporean to ever win the title. At a luncheon hosted by The Straits Times and sponsored by 100PLUS on 11 July 2014, Martina said she was surprised to the point of speechless when she learnt about ST s decision to present her with the ST Star of the Month Award, the first of the year. I m sorry that because of the time difference between Singapore and Germany,
15 some journalists had to scramble late in the night to put a story together for the next day s newspaper, said an appreciative Martina. Martina thanked her primary school, Innova Primary School, for teaching her how to enjoy sport; Singapore Sports School, especially Coach Lim Chea Rong, for choosing her for the Shooting Academy; Singapore Shooting Association for grooming her and providing her with all the opportunities that she never thought possible; and 100LUS which feted her and also sponsors Singapore Sports School. Martina also thanked her parents and siblings for always being here for me, for being my biggest fans and best supporters. I appreciate that you get more excited than me whenever I compete. I love you all very much. On 14 July 2014, Martina will leave with the national shooting team for Scotland to compete at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. There will be expectations for me to do well, and even win a medal. I hope to be able to handle the pressure. To the Singaporeans rooting for me, I look forward to your support. I will do my very best for Singapore at the Commonwealth Games, and in August, the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games. 14-Year-Old Martina Wins ISSF World Cup By Shirley Tan-Oehler Senior Manager, Strategic Communications Posted: 9 June 2014

Martina defeated some of the best shooters in the world, including Czech Katerina Emmons, who holds both the World Record and Olympic Games Record. "I'm really happy to win the gold medal. There were older and more experienced shooters in this World Cup. I was quite floored at the opportunity of competing against them. But, I stuck to what my coach, Ms Lim Chea Rong, always told me: Don t be distracted. Stay focused. " said Martina, who fired some of the best shots of the day, and stayed at the top of the scoreboard throughout the event. She finished with points. Emmons took the silver medal with points. Andrea Arsovic of Serbia had to settle for the bronze medal with points after fighting head and head against Emmons. "When I found out that I had won, I was really shocked. Beating Katerina Emmons, who won the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games gold medal, is a big deal for me," said Martina, a Secondary 3 student-athlete on the School-Within-A-School programme. With this win, expectations rise. The responsibility to always shoot excellently becomes heavier. I thank Singapore Sports School for starting the Shooting Academy three years ago, and mapping my development plans while helping me to keep up with my studies. I cannot thank my coach enough for her belief in me, always encouraging me. Singapore Shooting Association has given me many opportunities and I m grateful. Martina wrote her name in the Singapore's book of national records at 13 when she hit a perfect 400 points in the Women's 10m Air Rifle event at the HomeTeamNS Invitation Shoot on 3 February She broke Olympian Jasmine Ser's record of 399.
