2 16 th World Martial Arts Union Congress The 16 th World Martial Arts Union Congress is held annually and Mr Sheik Alau ddin Yacoob Marican, PBM, represented the International Pencak Silat Federation. The International Pencak Silat Federation is an active, Full Member of World Martial Arts Union. 2

3 1 st Asian Pencak Silat Federation Referee Course The Asian Pencak Silat Federation conducted a 2 days referee course from 20 th to 21 st September There was a total of 13 participants from South Korea, Chinese Taipei and India. The participants have to go through a series of test which includes situation simulation, tunggal and regu in order to be granted approval to be on duty for the 3 rd Asian Pencak Silat Championship. 3

5 3 rd Asian Pencak Silat Championship Hosted By: South Korea Pencak Silat Federation In Conjunction With: Chungju World Marial Arts Festival Competition Venue: Chosun Tourist Hotel (Preliminary Round, Quarter, Semi), Chungju Martial Arts Park Main Stage (Final) The 3 rd Asian Pencak Silat Championship, was held in conjunction with the Chungju World Martial Arts Festival organized by World Martial Arts Union bi-annually. South Korea Pencak Silat Federation (SKPSF) have been working very closely with World Martial Arts Union (WoMAU) to make this event a success. President of South Korea Pencak Silat Federation, Mr Hyungki Cho, manage to secure a venue in the Chungju Martial Arts Park from 22 nd to 25 th September to run the championship. However, Mr Cho had to change the venue to indoor due to bad weather. 8 APSIF General Meeting The Asian Pencak Silat Federation took the opportunity to have a meeting with the participating countries on 24 th September In the meeting, President of APSIF, Mr Sheik Alau ddin Yacoob Marican, together with the Presidents of the remaining Pencak Silat Federation, to let Indian Pencak Silat Federation to host the 4 th Asian Pencak Silat Championship in India. Indian Pencak Silat Federation accepted the offer and has promised to prepare the necessary to welcome all asian countries to compete in the 4 th Asian Pencak Silat Championship. On top of that, Mr Sheik discusses about the 2018 competition calendar for Pencak Silat which includes 3 major competition: Pre Asian Games (Test Game), 18 th Asian Games 2018 and World Pencak Silat Championship. Mr Sheik also manage to touch on the 2019 SEA Games in Philippines, where the host country is working very closely with the Philippine Olympic Committee towards the 2019 SEA Games. The meeting ended with an appointment ceremony for the new committee of South Korea Pencak Silat Federation. 8

10 World Martial Arts Exchange Day for Youth Mr Sheik Alau dddin and Mr Sheik Farhan was appointed to be the representative for Singapore in the World Martial Arts Exchange Day for Youth organized by ICM. 10

12 Meeting at Korean Sport & Olympic Committee We head to the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee to have a meeting with Director of Sports Organization Development and Director of Sports For All Promotion Department respectively. The meeting was initially set up with the Director General of Sports Organization Development Department, but due to other appointment, Director and Manager, Mr Jong Soo KIM and Mr CHO Jung-Hwan sat in with us for a meeting in his place. The meeting was very brief and South Korea Pencak Silat Federation was given a sample of the completed application as a guideline. Using this sample, South Korea Pencak Silat Federation will be submitting the full application by mid October. This will ensure enough time for KOC and SKPSF to prepare a team to compete in the upcoming 2018 Asian Games

13 After our meeting with the Sports Organization Development Department, we proceeded with the meeting with the Sports for All Promotion Department, Ms Kim Yeon-Soo. Ms Kim Yeon-Soo is very supportive of the promotion of Pencak Silat in South Korea and has offered Asian Pencak Silat Federation to take part in the upcoming Traditional Sports Showcase in November 2017 to help further develop Pencak Silat in South Korea. Ms Kim Yeon-Soo will be assisting the process of getting South Korea Pencak Silat Federation affiliated to Korean Sports & Olympic Committee. 13

15 63 rd Baekjae Parade & Festival Asian Pencak Silat Federation worked with Singapore Silat Federation to be part of the 63 rd Baekjae Cultural Festival. The team from Singapore Silat Federation took part in the Parade and Performance on 30 September 2017 in Gongju City, South Korea. The parade and performance took place along the road of Gongju City, where roads were blocked for this very prestigious festival. The team performed a 10 minutes Pencak Silat Performance that impressed the crowd who has very little knowledge on Pencak Silat. The full performance can be seen on this link: 15

18 Participating in Dangun Parliamentary Korea National Foundation Day On 03 October 2017, we had our final performance at the Dangun Parliamentary in celebration of the Korea National Foundation Day. The Dangun Parliamentary have personally invited the Asian Pencak Silat Federation to be part of the Korea National Foundation Day Celebration on 03 October Despite having a flight to catch, Asian Pencak Silat Federation and Singapore Silat Federation accepted the invitation and gave a solid 10 minutes performance before flying home. 18

19 Conclusion The Asian Pencak Silat Federation would like to thank South Korea Pencak Silat Federation for being a good host for the 3 rd Asian Pencak Silat Championship and also for arranging our other activities well. Although the federation is very young and new, the hardwork and dedication that South Korea Pencak Silat Federation is well recognized by APSIF and other participating countries of the 3 rd Asian Pencak Silat Championship. APSIF would also like to thank Singapore Silat Federation for supporting with the performances and adhering to every other request. APSIF wishes all the best to SKPSF in getting affiliation from KOC. We look forward to seeing SKPSF sending a team for the upcoming 18 th Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia. 19
