3 Arrival and Day 1 of Course (Opening Ceremony) We were welcomed by President of Chinese Taipei Pencak Silat Federation, Mr Lin Chien-Chang, at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and headed for Chungli Business Hotel, Taoyuan City, to check in and prepare for the opening ceremony of the Coaching and National Referee and Jury Seminar. The aim of the seminar is to give proper introduction of the rules and regulations of Pencak Silat as a sport. It is also to ensure that those who attended the course will be more prepared to officiate in the coming National Championships in Chinese Taipei before proceeding to be officials on International Competitions. 3

4 Heru Nugroho, Nurzuhairah and Nurhanishah showcased a Pencak Silat performance that attracted the attention of attendees. 4

5 We started off with the Theory Session for Referee Jury, led by Mdm Nirwati Binte Mohd Yassin, International Wasit Jury Class 3, monitored by Mr Sheik Alau ddin Yacoob Marican, PBM. The things that were covered in the Wasit and Jury Theory course are as follow: Introduction to Pencak Silat Background of International Pencak Silat Federation Four Founding Member Four Aspects of Pencak Silat International Pencak Silat Competition Rules Definition of Events in Pencak Silat Competition (Tanding, Tunggal, Ganda, Regu) Competition Procedure Standardized Competition Arena (Mattress Thickness, Size 10m by 10m, Outer Circle 8m Diameter, Inner Circle 3m Diameter) Competition Equipment (Red Yellow Blue Signal Light, Bout Light, Red and Blue Flag) Attire for Pencak Silat Competition (Standardized Black Uniform, Colored Uniform for Artistic Tunggal and Ganda) Match Rounds and Time for various age group Allowable target in Pencak Silat Prohibition Light / Heavy Violations Penalties / Reprimands / Warnings Scoring Rules Winners Decision Following which, we proceeding with the coching theory session which covered the following: The Coach Role of a Coach Responsibility of a Coach Communication between Coach and Athlete Difficulties Coaches have to go through Training in Pencak Silat Training Pre Teen Training Pre Junior Training Junior Training Senior We took a short break and carried on with the Competition Secretariat Course, which covers: Definition of the Secretariat Team, Responsibility Before, During and After Competition, Athlete s Registration and Balloting Procedure, Creating competition schedule, Forms that every competition requires, Manpower required to run a competition, Compilation of result and Disperse the result and report to all team manager. 5

7 Day 2 of Course As we have completed the theory session on Day 1 of Course, we carried on the practical side of the course. Mdm Nirwati proceeded with the practical session for Referee and Jury, which focuses on: Proper hand signal (aba-aba) 7

8 Coaching practical is conducted by Mr Heru Nugroho, monitored closely by Mr Sheik. The theory session covers the following: Punch Kick Blocking Hand Pattern Stances 8 Step Movements Set of Patterns Combination of Movement and Techniques Sweeping Scissors Takedown 8

9 On top of the coaching and referee jury course, we also conduct a Pencak Silat Training for the young athletes there. The sessions were conducted by Ms Nurzuhairah and Ms Nurhanishah, and I closely monitored by Mr Sheik. 9

10 Day 3 We head to the Chinese Taipei National Olympic Committee to have a meeting with Chinese Taipei National Olympic Committee. The meeting was a great success as the NOC will recognise Pencak Silat as a sport to be practices in Chinese Taipei. Mr Lin Chien-Chang will submit the relevant documents, and Chinese Taipei National Olympic Committee will add Pencak Silat as an official sport in the country. 10

11 After the meeting at Chinese Taipei National Olympic Committee, we headed back to the training ground to conduct the test session for those who attended the courses. We started off with the theory test, followed by the practical test. Referee Jury Test Consist of: Proper hand signal (aba-aba) Proper pronunciation of wording Handling of uncertain situation Giving proper points / penalties / warnings / reprimands 11

12 Coaching Test consist of: Stretching / Warming Up / Conditioning 3 Types of Punch 3 Types of Kick 3 Types of Hand Pattern 1 Successful Takedown Takedown Sweep / Scissors 12

13 The result for the test are as follow: Theory Wasit Jury Coaching Overall Perfect Score Pass All Pass 13

14 Day 4 We started the day with an Introducing Pencak Silat session at Taoyuan Municipal Da Cheng Junior High School. The teacher in charge and students were very enthusiastic, especially during the 1 hr training session. Pencak Silat will be added as an extra curriculum sport in the school, with immediate effect. 14

16 After completing the sessions in Taoyuan Municipal Da Cheng Junior High School, we headed back to the training ground for the Closing Ceremony and Certificate Presentation Ceremony. Certificates were given to the those who attended and completed the 4 days course. 16

17 On top of the certificate presentation, APSIF have given Chinese Taipei Pencak Silat Federation a few items to kickstart their session there. The items given includes: 1 Kicking Pad (For sample to purchase new ones) 1 Referee Jury Uniform (For sample to purchase new ones) 1 Black Plain Silat Uniform (For sample to purchase new ones, to inlude PERSILAT Logo, Federation Logo and Flag) 1 Set of Vest (For Sample to Purchase new ones) 17

18 Conclusion The Asian Pencak Silat Federation (APSIF) would like to express our gratitude to Mr Lin Chien-Chang for being a great host. The participants were also very eager and keen to learn new things each session. APSIF would also like to thank the Singapore Silat Federation (PERSISI) for their support under Referee and Jury. APSIF have high hopes for the development of Pencak Silat in Chinese Taipei, and will continue to work together closely with Mr Lin Chien-Chang towards establishing Chinese Taipei Pencak Silat Federation stronger and better. Coaches will be sent to Chinese Taipei for a month in late 2017 to aid in teaching more variation of techniques and prepare a team for the 18 th World Pencak Silat Championship 2018, in Jakarta Indonesia. 18
