2 Cycling Emma Pooley Emma is a former University of Cambridge student and an Olympic Silver medalist, currently racing for Dutch team AA Drink-Leontien.nl. Her greatest success came in the 2008 Olympic time trial on the 13th August, where she won the silver medal behind American Kristin Armstrong. Since this she has won the World Championship Road Time Trial event in 2010 and missed out on Commonwealth games due to illness. In 2009, Pooley signed to the Cervélo Test Team. Since then, she has won the 2009 British National Time Trial Championships and taken several other wins, including victories in the Coupe du Monde de Montreal, the Grand Prix Costa d'etrusca, and the Grande Boucle Féminine, dubbed 'the women's Tour de France'. Pooley signed for AA.Drink- Leontein.nl in 2012 after the discontinuation of Cervélo's womens team. Emma competed in the London 2012 Olympic Games, coming 40 in the women's road race and 6th in the women s individual time trial. For more information on cycling please visit the British Cycling website. Jody Cundy MBE Originally from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, MBE Jody Cundy is the World and Paralympic Cycling Champion. Cundy is a British Paralympian who was born with a deformed right foot, which resulted in the amputation of his right leg below the knee at only 3 years old. He was fitted with an artificial leg and since then has made his way to the top of the podium with no problem. He started as a swimmer, winning a number of medals and setting a great number of World Records. Between 1994 and 2004 he won 14 gold medals and set 6 World Records in swimming events alone, competing in the World and European Championships and the Paralympics. In 2004 he turned his attention to cycling, and by 2006 he had resigned from swimming. Since then, he has been training and competing vigorously. He has become one of only a handful of athletes to become Paralympian world champion in two different events. In 2011 he entered the World Championships with 7 gold medals and 6 World Records from previous events over the years in World Championships and Paralympics, including the records he set and then broke (more than once) later on. He was also named BBC East's Disabled Sports Personality of the Year for Jody competed at the London 2012 Paralympic Games where he achieved a bronze medal in the Men's Cycling Track Finals 2. Georgie was spotted at a Paralympic talent day in February 2009, and ever since has been training with the GB squad. She played in her first competition just two months later, the Malmo women s Intercup.
3 Her career achievements so far include winning Gold at the European Championships in Munich, 2009, and placing 11th in the 2010 World Championships at Sheffield. In 2011 Georgie got her first taste of the Olympic Park as part of the GB team which lost narrowly in the quarter finals. This competition was played shortly after Georgie and the GB team returned from the European Championships in Assen, Denmark, where the team finished ninth. For more information on Goalball please find the official GoalballUK website here Georgie competed in the GB Goalball team in the London 2012 Paralympic Games, helping them to get through the group stages, to reach the quarterfinals, where they were narrowly beaten by Sweden 2-1 Gymnastics Louis Smith Louis Smith is the first British gymnast to win a medal in the individual gymnastics at the Olympic Games since Walter Tysall won a silver medal in Smith, originally from Eye and member of the Huntingdon Olympics Gymnastics Club, already has won 3 pommel horse and team silver medals at both European Championships in 2009 and He claimed top spot in the pommel at the London Open, won pommel horse gold at Senior British Championships in 2009 and won a bronze medal at 2008 Beijing Olympics all before the age of 21. More recently, Smith won World Gymnastics pommel horse bronze in Tokyo in 2011, and remains a strong medal hope for Louis helped the GB team to Team Gold at the Artistic World Championships in 2010 as well as individual silver in the pommel horse. 4 Sam Oldham Sam Oldham is a young and talented British gymnast from Huntingdon Olympic Club, who recently made his first appearance at a senior Championship having just turned 18. Sam competes in the allaround discipline which involves mastering all of the individual apparatus: Floor, High Bar, Vault, Pommel Horse, Parallel Bars and Rings. Sam was crowned European Junior Champion in 2008 and went on to win two Gold medals at the European Youth Olympics and three Gold medals at the 2010 European Junior Championships. The 2011 European Championships in Berlin saw him make his senior debut and Sam put in a performance of huge quality and maturity to finish 4th. As well as these results, Sam won the BBC East Midlands Sports Personality of the Year award in 2008, and was nominated in the top 10 for BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in Sam competed in the London 2012 Olympic Games and achieved a bronze medal in the Men's Team Final, along with team mate Louis Smith. For more information about Sam please visit his website here Judo Danny Williams Danny Williams is a judo player currently studying at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. He is the current GB number 1 in the under-73kg category. Born in 1989, Williams combines his studies at the university with full time training at Camberley Judo Club in Surrey. He currently has two senior gold medals to his name, in the European Cup and the National Championships. On June 26th 2012, Williams was selected by TeamGB as part of their 14-strong squad for London 2012 to compete in the U73kg category. Danny competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games in the U73KG category of Judo where is got to the Elimination Round of 32. Team Sarah Grady Wheelchair Basketball Sarah Grady, from Stretham, will become a three time Paralympian in 2012 having already been selected for the GB squad. Grady's first Paralympics came at Sydney in 2000, aged just 16 years old, helping GB to an 8th place finish. Possibly Sarah's most memorable moment in the sport was winning the bronze medal at the 2003 European Championships in Hamburg, which resulted in the team s qualification for the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens. Once there, the team again finished 8th. Sarah's selection for the 2012 squad was confirmed on May 28th, all the more remarkable was that she had only decided to try for Great Britain selection again in November 2011, having stepped away from the sport following the birth of her son Josh four years ago.
5 Sarah competed in GB wheelchair basketball squad at London 2012 Paralympic Games. Helping the team to get through the Group A preliminary rounds, to reach the quarterfinals, which they sadly lost against Germany. Hannah MacLeod Hockey Hannah MacLeod is a member of the England Women's Hockey team. A free scoring forward, Hannah attended Hinchingbrooke School where her PE teacher was the first to encourage her to join a club. Her first hockey club was St Ives where not only the coaches but also the senior players were very influential on her love of the game and desire to improve. Her major achievements comprise of Champions Challenge Silver medal in 2005, European Bronze medal in 2007 and again in In late 2010 Hannah assisted her team in a hat trick of bronze medals in the Commonwealths, Champions Trophy and World Cup. Hannah is a trained nutritionist with a degree and a PhD in sports science, and she plays for top club side Leicester. Glenn Kirkham Hockey Current England vice-captain and stalwart of national champions East Grinstead, Glenn Kirkham is a key figure in the hockey team's medal pursuit. In England and Great Britain colours Glenn has had great success, including placing in 5th in 2008 Beijing Olympics, their best placing since He also won gold in 2009 Euro's and silver in the 2011 event. With his club East Grinstead, Glenn has also achieved many honours, including being crowned English Hockey League Premier Division Champions in 08/09, and again in 09/10. Glenn coaches at the Perse Boys in Cambridge and has enjoyed a significant amount of success while based in Cambridge both as a coach and as a player. He has coached the Perse to a number of indoor championships as well as numerous regional and county titles. Glenn was part of the Men's GB Hockey Team that competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games, helping his team get through to the bronze medal match and unfortunately losing out to Australia in a 3-1 loss. Matt Howe Volleyball Matt Howe is an ex GB junior and current GB volleyball player. He grew up in Dogsthorpe, Peterborough, where his Father played for the Peterborough volleyball side. Matt currently plays for French side St Brieuc, having played for clubs in both Switzerland and the Netherlands previously. Matt has over 40 caps for Great Britain in his role as a passer/hitter, and stands at a formidable 1.87m.
6 For more information please visit the British Volleyball website here Track & Field Robbie Grabarz High Jump Robert Grabarz is a high jumper from St Neots, and a one-time Cambridgeshire County hockey player. A former AAA Indoor U20 Championships champion, Robert career has taken off in 2012 and seen him clear 2.34m at an indoor meeting in Germany, a new personal best by 6cm, and 3cm above both the Olympic 'A' qualifying standard and countryman Samson Oni's best effort of the year. It also elevated Grabarz to joint third on the UK all-time list, and put him top of the World Rankings! This achievement was even more incredible than it already seemed, as a disappointing 2011 had seen Grabarz lose his funding from UK Athletics. He has since moved to Birmingham, and continues to fund himself as he prepares for 2012, where he has now become a serious medal contender for GB. Robert competed at London 2012 Olympic Games, where he came 1st in the Men's High Jump Qualification and then achieved a bronze medal in the Men's High Jump Final. As a youngster, Daniel competed in both wheelchair basketball and swimming, but preferred athletics and chose to concentrate on the shot and discus. His brace of silvers at the 2006 World Champs is currently his best performance on the international stage, during which he added 16cm for a new personal best of 38.16m in F33/34 discus. West has been to four Paralympic Games and medalled on three occasions. Louise Hazel Heptathlon Louise Hazel is a Hepthatlete born in March, Cambridgeshire. She made her senior debut at the 2006 European Championships, finishing with 5892 points, ranking her the 11th Best British Heptathlete ever. Although a lack of funding saw her miss out on competing at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Louise came back stronger than ever and in 2010 won Commonwealth Heptathlon Gold, achieving four
7 personal best performances in the 100m hurdles, 200m, long jump and the javelin, and 6156 points, another personal best. At the 2011 Mehrkampf-Meeting Ratingen she scored 6166 points, but this included wind-assisted performances. For 2012, Louise has recruited a dozen local sponsors to enable her to train full time, calling them her "12 for 2012," as she looks forward to becoming an Olympian. Claire Hallissey Marathon Cambridge University graduate Claire Hallissey is a marathon runner who has been selected to represent team GB at the London 2012 games. Claire started as a track runner but in 2009 won a place on Britain s team for the World Half Marathon Championships in Birmingham by winning the UK trial in a time of 72:03. She went on to become the first Briton home, a highly credible 25th. Since then Claire has stepped up to full marathon distance. Her place in the team for 2012 was confirmed after she set a new personal best in the London Marathon this year, setting a time of 2 hours, 27 minutes and 44 seconds to be the first Briton home in 11th. Hallissey has a unique way of recovering from marathons. She backpacked around Mayan ruins in Mexico shortly after the 2010 New York Marathon, while she recuperated after her Chicago performance last year by spending two weeks exploring the rainforests of Costa Rica will be her first Olympic Games. Claire competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games where she came 57th in the women's marathon in a time of 2hrs 35mins 39secs Goldie Sayers Javelin Goldie Sayers is originally from Newmarket and now lives in Cambridge. She competes for Belgrave Harriers and before that at Peterborough Athletic Club. Goldie has been the British Number 1 Javelin Thrower for a record breaking 9 years. She is a double Olympian, coming fourth at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, missing out on javelin bronze by just 38cm, breaking the National Record and ranking her fourth in the world. At Athens in 2004, she was the youngest member of the UK s track and field team. Olympic, World and European Championship finalist, Goldie consistently features in the world s top ten in her discipline. She has progressed from the junior ranks setting a new UK under-20 record to win silver at the 2001 European Junior Championships alongside Mo Farah and Chris Tomlinson. Jonnie Peacock Sprinter Jonathan Peacock is a Chatteris-based runner.
8 He made his Paralympic debut in 2010 at the BT Paralympic World Cup in Manchester where he competed against Paralympic Gold medallist and World Record holder in the 400m sprint, Oscar Pistorius, and finished fifth. Jonathan was selected by the Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland Team to compete in the annual IWAS Junior World Championships in Olomouc, Czech Republic. At his first major championships, the 2011 IPC World Championship in Christchurch, Peacock finished 2nd in the heats to make the final. This was a phenomenal achievement and he went on to finish 5th in a time of 11.63, less than half a second behind Pistorius. Rowing Tom James MBE Tom James is a Olympic gold medalist and a former Cambridge University student. Tom only took up rowing after a knee injury meant he had to give up running, and won his 1st GB junior vest in the eight in Duisburg in 2001, winning a bronze medal. He made his GB Senior team debut as a 19 year old in 2003, winning his place in the men's eight and winning a bronze medal at the World Rowing Championships. He continued to have further success, and was part of the men's 8 that reached the 2004 Olympic final, finishing in 9th position. In Beijing 2008, Tom was part of the men's 4 that won gold in a thrilling race, beating Australia and France to 1st place. He was awarded an MBE in the 2009 New Year's Honours list in recognition of his achievement. After injury kept him out of the 2010 season, Tom returned as part of the men's 4 that won gold at the 2011 World Rowing Championships, and is looking to feature in his 3rd Olympics in Tom competed in the London 2012 Olympic Games, winning a gold medal in the men's four finals event. Anna only took up rowing in 2001, whilst attending Newham College in Cambridge. Since then, she has experienced great success. Anna's first vest was in the U23 four in 2004 in Poznan where she became U23 World Champion. She made her senior debut at the 2005 World Championships in Japan where she came 5th. She won her first medal at the 2007 World Rowing Championships, where she took home the bronze, and repeated that result a year later at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where the first three crews were separated by just 0.23s. This race remains the closest any British oarswomen have got to an Olympic gold medal. Since then Anna has achieved more success, taking home gold in both the 2010 and 2011 World Rowing Championships, going unbeaten throughout 2010 in the women's double scull and being named World Rowing Female Crew of the Year in the same year.

For more information please visit the British rowing website here Charles Cousins Charles Cousins is a GB rower who is hoping to compete in his first Olympics in He was born in Cambridge and still lives in the area in Cottenham. His first event in a GB vest was at the 2006 World Junior Championships where he and his partner finished 5th in the pairs competition. After narrowly failing to qualify for the 2008 Olympics, Cousins went to the World U23 Championships with Bill Lucas, where they showed their class winning the gold medal to become World U23 Champions. Charles established himself in the senior men's quad in the 2009 World Cup series, winning silver in Banyoles and Lucerne and taking 4th place in Munich, and was selected in the men's quad for the World Championships in Poznan. Charles competed in the London 2012 Olympic Games, in the Men's Quadruple Sculls Finals where he came 5th, as well as coming 3rd in the Men's Rowing Semi-final. For more information please visit the British rowing website here Pam Relph Pam Relph is a Histon-based athlete will compete alongside Naomi Riches, Dave Smith, James Roe and cox Lily van den Broecke in the mixed adaptive coxed four as part of the Paralympic rowing squad. Relph and her crewmates triumphed at the 2011 world championships in Bled, Slovenia, and preserved their unbeaten status by taking gold at the Munich World Cup regatta in June. Until recently Pamela was on an army scholarship which saw her attend the Defence Sixth Form College Welbeck, with a view to joining the Royal Engineers as an engineering officer. When this career path was cut short due to her impairment, Pamela saw an opportunity in adaptive rowing which has quickly become her main focus. She was first introduced to the world of rowing in August 2010 by her older sister Monica who has rowed internationally for GB, and she has progressed well, taking 2nd place at the British Indoor Rowing Championships in November 2010 and finishing 4th at the European Indoor Rowing Championships in January Pam competed in the London 2012 Paralympic Games for the first time, winning the gold medal in the Mixed Rowing Finals 1 in a time of George Nash Another Cambridge University graduate, George Nash has been selected to represent Team GB at the 2012 Olympic Games as one half of the men's pairs. George won his first GB vest at the 2006 World Junior Championships where he finished 4th in the eight. His next vest was gained as a member of the junior four that won gold at the 2007 Junior Worlds. He also represented GB at the Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney in January 2009, winning gold in the pair, four and eight.
10 George raced in the men's four at the 2010 World Rowing U23 Championships in Brest, Belarus where he won a silver medal. He then moved to the men's eight for the FISU World University Championships in Hungary, this time winning gold. At the 2011 World Rowing U23 Championships, George and crewmate Constantine Louloudis raced in the men's pair. The duo dominated all of their races, winning gold in the final over 5 seconds ahead of the silver medallists from Russia. During the 2012 World Cup series, George raced in a newly formed men s pair with Will Satch. The duo won a silver medal in Belgrade and finished 5th in Lucerne to secure their selection for the Games will be George's first Olympic Games. George competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games where he was part of the Men's Pair Finals which won a bronze medal. Tom Ransley Tom Ransley is a two times World Rowing Championship silver medalist. Tom completed his university post-graduate work at Cambridge University, and has lived in the area ever since. Tom made his senior GB debut in 2007, when he was part of the men's 8 that finished 5th in the European Rowing Championships. In 2008, Tom was a member of the men's 4 that claimed bronze at the World University Rowing Championships, and won his first senior medal at the 2010 World Rowing Championships, taking silver in the men's 8. He then repeated the trick in Tom is hoping to compete in his first Olympic games in Tom competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games winning a bronze medal in the Men's Eight Finals in a time of For more information please find the British Rowing website here Matt Skelhon Matt Skelhon is a Paralympic Shooting Champion from Stilton who trains at Whittlesey Rifle Club. After discovering his talent in April 2006, he won a silver medal at the National Championships only two months after! At the Beijing Olympics in 2008, he won gold in mixed air Rifle Prone SH1. Then in December 2008, he was awarded the Outstanding Individual Achievement Award at the 13th annual British Wheelchair Sports Awards. In 2009 at the Polish Open, he also won both silver and gold respectively in 10m air rifle prone SH1 and 10m air rifle standing SH1 and won four silver medals at the Wheelpower National Shooting Championships. In 2010, after having helped Great Britian to a team gold medal at the World Cup in France, the Paralympic Gold medallist took third place in the R3 10m air rifle event at the IPC World Championships in Croatia. Matt followed this up by taking bronze in the team event and silver in the 10m falling target rifle. Whilst Matt did not have many competitions in 2011, he continued to train hard and is looking to medal once again in 2012.
11 Matt competed at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, achieving a silver medal in the Mixed R3-10m Air Rifle Prone-SH1 Finals, and a bronze in the Mixed R6-50m Rifle Prone-SH1 Finals. Prior to these great achievements Matt also competed in the Men's R1-10m Air Rifle Standing-SH1 Qualification too. The 26-year-old is aiming to reach her second Olympic Games in London while also juggling her studies in astrophysics at Cambridge University. Powell represented Great Britain at 2008 Olympic Games, where she participated in the 10m platform dive and the synchronised dive, placing 10th and 8th respectively. Powell moved a step closer to reaching back-to-back Olympics when she progressed to the semifinal of the 10-metre platform at the FINA World Cup at the London Aquatics Centre in February In doing so she confirmed Great Britain will have two spots at the Olympics. Stacie was selected to represent GB at the 2012 games on June 11th in the 10m Individual event. Stacie competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games, reaching the semi-final of the Women's 10m Platform. For more information please visit the British Swimming website here Harriet Lee Swimmer Harriet Lee was born in Huntingdon in She currently swims for City of Peterborough Swimming Club and has represented GB at a senior level. Her first senior event was the IPC Swimming World Championships 2010 in Eindhoven, where she won an individual gold in the SB9 100m breaststroke, as well as helping the 4x100m Medley Relay win the silver medal. As well as this, Harriet is also the holder of SB9 World and European records, in the 50m and 100m breaststroke respectively. In 2011, Harriet finished a difficult year in style. Having spent long periods of time recovering from illness, at the ASA East Region Swimming Championships held in Norwich she beat the world record times in both the SB9 short-course 50m and 100m breaststroke. Harriet swam 36.75sec in the 50m discipline, beating the previous record of 37.14, and in the 100m event stopped the clock at 1:18.54 compared with the previous record of 1: Harriet competed in the London 2012 Paralympic Games, competing in the women's S10 200m individual medley and reaching the final and the women's S10 50m freestyle. 12 Lauren Steadman Swimmer Lauren Steadman is a Paralympic swimmer from Sawtry, Huntingdonshire, and a member of the Huntingdon Piranhas Swim Club. At only 14 years old, she was selected for the GB Paralympic Team who competed in Beijing in In 2007, she won seven medals including gold at the Danish open, and the BBC Sports Personality with Disability Award for the Eastern Region. She also won two medals at the German Open Championships in Berlin in 2008, broke the 1500m front crawl S9 British Record by 2mins in November In 2009, Lauren came third at the BT Paralympic World Cup in Manchester and won both bronze and gold at the European Championships. In 2011 Steadman went to the IPC European Swimming Championships in Berlin. She was fourth in the individual 100m backstroke and 400m freestyle, and was part of the 4x100m freestyle relay team that won in a European record. Under the guidance of coach Paul Hogg, Lauren has set new personal bests and won two gold medals and two bronze at the BUCS Short Course Swimming Championships in November Lauren competed at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, competing in the women's S9 100m freestyle and reaching the final, coming 8th in a time of , as well as competing and reaching the final in the womens S9 400m freestyle, coming 6th in Lauren also competed in the women s S9 50m freestyle heats. Windsurfing Nick Dempsey Nick Dempsey is the 2009 World Champion in the RS: X windsurf class after a stunning victory in front of his home crowd in Weymouth, September Nick has a strong competitive record at home and will be looking to extend that run in His first senior win was clinched at the North Sea Cup Series in Pevensey Bay and an additional third place in the Kieler Woche. During the 2000 Summer Olympics he finished in 16th position. He continued winning competitions in 2001 and beyond, winning at Athens Eurolymp Week, Kieler Woche and the SPA Regatta amongst others before finishing third at the 2004 Summer Olympics to take the windsurfing bronze medal. He placed 4th in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, narrowly missing out on a medal. Nick continued his impressive form at home with victory in the 2011 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta, again at Olympic venue Weymouth.
